Allow login username to be different from email and aliases
You can effectively make your login username a barrier from even giving hackers a starting point to get into your account. Since with this feature they would need to know your username first. This should squash any determine hacker and allow great protection to long term protonmail accounts for years to come. Thoughts of "working on hacking this account may take time" is diminished wouldnt ya say?

100% agree, and I can't believe that it hasn't been implemented already! It would really add a lot of value and security to Protonmail's offering

Strong supporter of this feature. I was hoping when getting Protonmail that this would be the case. Being able to log in using alias addresses kind of defeats the purpose of having them and is, as other have said, a lack of security of your email. Otherwise I would not have paid for them and just made seperate email adressess and enabled mail forwarding.

This is a security feature please add this. I use multiple aliasses for different sites. If one gets hacked my email is exposed. Using 1 alias for login gives extra security and comfort of mind

This is really necessary. Widely used email addresses are vulnerable to hacker attacks.

Allowing login using an alias can be a big security issue. This request is very important and I support it 100%

Yes this would be nice. Also separate protonvpn account from protonmail account so I can let my roomate use my vpn without giving him access to my email.

I expected alias functionality to work like this. Adding the ability for an alias to actually mask your login id is huge. A login id could then be used for ONLY logging in, and not shared with anyone. All communications could be through aliases, so the main login id is not exposed.

I strongly support this suggestion.
Purpose of using an alias is to hide your original address which is used as a login id.
Enabling alias as login id totally negates the very purpose of an alias.
Please consider implementing this function ASAP.

Great idea, if someone has your protonmail email address he has 50 % of the info to get into your Account (at least if you don't use 2FA)

In addition, existing users should be able to change their username since it wouldn't be tied to an email address anymore.

I would like for it to be possible to disable login using some or all the alias names, so that it is only possible to log into protonmail by using my original login name, which I set up when opening my account, and which I keep secret.

This feature is currently available on Outlook.com and I find it very useful. It would be win-win update for ProtonMail and its customers: it should reduce the volume of hacking attempts.

This seems like an excellent measure as it denies an attacker a meaningful starting point.

Fantastic idea. Such basic opsec should be so obvious but we're all trained monkeys on GMail these days.
