Monero payment option
I would love to be able to create a truly anonymous email account so I would like to be able to pay for premium accounts with Monero or Bitcoin.
Hi everyone,
For our thoughts on Monero, check out our Bitcoin deep dive with Seth on the latest Opt Out podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUGJje2jvck

Monero is the standard in private transactions, really a shame that it is not yet usable to pay for Proton servies.

Honestly, a VPN that can't be purchased by Monero is completely useless for any private use.
I guess money by mail might be an option, but for an online company Monero is almost obligatory if you actually care about privacy -

I am sorry, but your thoughts on Monero on said Opt Out podcast are cheap, childish excuses for not having implemented (yet?) a way for accepting payments in Monero. As long as you want to be referred to as a privacy-first company, it would be best to start accepting payments in Monero. The longer you delay that feature, the more you resemble a privacy-pretend company.

I'm quite surprised that ProtonVPN only allows an option for Bitcoin, when Bitcoin is very bad for privacy. One of the reasons I chose another VPN provider was due to being able to purchase with Monero XMR.

Quoting: "If it were privacy first, Monero for payment, no ability to enter additional personal info (like Mullvad), and hassle-free tor access from soup to nuts 24/7/365."

What a good surprise to wake up with!
However, I think we would have all preferred if you gave us the answer you give in the video sooner instead of feeling ignored for years.
In hopes it all gets solved.

So happy to see this update. When Proton supports XMR, I will feel comfortable paying for the premium services

I think they didn't do their research and think Monero was premined or that just because the protocol is updated they think it's also controlled / centralized by not understanding how open-source projects evolve.
Being against Monero is being against privacy, I think I will have to change provider soon just because it's a red flag for me.

Been asking about Monero for years! Surprised this wasn't rolled out first. Good to see proton wallet but for a privacy by default company I'm shocked to not see XMR. Please add XMR option as well as Proton and Monero compliment each other

Monero IS private by default, therefore Proton should make it the primary payment method for their services.

If you claim Proton is "Privacy by Default" then Monero should be your focus as a payment option, not Bitcoin

This is the only reason im not using proton yet. Please add XMR.

Dear Proton team,
I'd like to formally request the addition of Monero (XMR) support as a payment method on our platform.
Monero stands out as:
Highly Private: Transactions are shielded by ring signatures, ring-ct and stealth addresses, making them effectively digital cash.
Secure: Built on a blockchain with advanced privacy features and robust security measures.
Efficient: Transactions are fast and inexpensive, thanks to the unique ring signature technology.
Given our commitment to privacy and security, Monero aligns perfectly with our values. It would be a logical and valuable addition to our platform, especially considering the growing popularity of this cryptocurrency among privacy-conscious users.
Adding Monero would:
* Expand our reach to a new segment of users who prioritize privacy.
* Enhance our platform's appeal to those who value anonymity and security.
* Position us as a leader in accommodating the evolving needs of our users.I believe this would be a positive development for our platform and would greatly enhance the user experience for our customers.
Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and discussing this further.

Prioritize XMR aka Monero acceptance.
Best privacy-preserving crypto paired with the best privacy-preserving email service. -

How can it be that they don't already accept monero like Mullvad and all others.

Not to be a hater, but Monero is not a "crypto" that I think any company wants to hold. It's often attacked for it's anonymity. So much so that it had to be removed from exchanges. Point being, government go after exchanges which are private companies, so why wouldn't they start going after private companies that accept it. I believe accepting Monero would be too much of a burden. If you want good privacy while transacting digitally, why don't y'all look into the Bitcoin Lightning Network or the Liquid Network? Those a good private options for transacting digitally, and they utilize the most resilient network known to man.

This is by far my biggest complaint with the product and if you want the highest level of Privacy you should seriously consider switching to other email services that do accept Monero as payment (such as Tutanota via the ProxyStore).
The fact that Proton advertises itself to high risk countries such as Russia, as a "private" pioneer of freedom- encouraging users to bypass legal restrictions with TRACEABLE forms of payment such as Bitcoin, or Bank Transfer- instead of allowing fully anonymous forms of payment (such as Monero) to be accepted is deeply irresponsible.
Given that nearly all their much smaller competitors ALLOW Monero payment (Tutanota for email and calendar via ProxyStore), (Mullvad for VPN \[they even offer 10%\]), and a self hosted nextcloud for ProtonDrive & ProtonPass with KeePassXC, I fail to see any reason why they are unable to accept the currency. Even their subsidiary SimpleLogin states they plan to implement the payment in the near future as a native option, with the ability to contact their helpdesk or buy their product via the ProxyStore anonymously.
While Proton is a great tool for escaping mass surveillance by default and (I myself am still an active Proton User), I cannot in good faith recommend their products for anything that requires a high degree of Anonymity until Monero is accepted.
Unfortunately I wouldn't hold your breath for this issue. Despite this being the largest complaint & source of distrust levied against Proton, even sparking major controversies in the past such as claims they are a honeypot (I don't personally believe this), and this issue being open since 2018 with 7000+ votes we have not heard anything in regards to this from Proton themselves. This is incredibly disappointing as in other areas Proton is a great company.

A private anonymous payment method like Monero is absolutely essential for a privacy service like Proton.
