Monero payment option
I would love to be able to create a truly anonymous email account so I would like to be able to pay for premium accounts with Monero or Bitcoin.
We will be adding Monero as a payment option for our VPN plans by the end of Summer 2025.

I'm shocked how popular this has become. Not sure why protonmail hasn't implemented this. Aren't we talking about not money coming in? Not a new feature, but a paying or donation method?
Seems crazy this is so popular and they don't want to accept the method of money

bitcoin is ok, but for privacy there is monero, please accept it directly.

Convert the currency yourself and use bitcoin to pay. Protonmail accepts bitcoin

I have a free account and if protonmail started to accept monero, I would upgrade.
Anyone who really believes in privacy needs to use Monero and learn at:

I have been using protonmail for over a year and would certainly upgrade from my free account if I could pay in crypto currencies.
The logical choice would be Monero, but Bitcoin would be a start. -

At least Bitcoin also

I have a free account but if protonmail accepted monero I would start paying tomorrow

addendum: please accept Monero *directly*, not through shapeshift or something like that, as that would already degrade the level of privacy people are looking for.

yes yes yes, being able to pay with an unlinkable cryptocurrency for my encrypted mail account upgrade would be really cool! make it happen protonmail!
ps: I already sent you guys a request in person beforehand. you can also get in touch with the cryptostorm.is team to get feedback if it is worthwhile dealing with Monero ;-)

>> Btw, Dash is anonymous and has 5x the market cap of Monero.
>It provides lesser degree of privacy and is not a FLOSS project and many other reasons.Incorrect. Dash is 100% FLOSS. As for anonymity, I disagree that it provides for less privacy. Monero is not magic either and there are audit-ability concerns and more.
That being said, as much as I would love Protonmail to accept various crypto-currencies, Dash certainly has a significantly more robust community and history and is far easier to use, but for protonmail's purposes, I would have them just stick with bitcoin. It is trivial to anonymize through Monero or Dash into some random Bitcoin address and then pay that way if you want.
Unless of course, protonmail dudes disagree, but if they were a small company, that would be my recommendation this early in the process:
1. Still uncomfortable with crytocurrencies? (and they seem to be since there is no automated bitcoin payment mechanism yet) Then stick with Bitcoin
2. Comfortable with Cryptocurrencies, then try to support the top 5 or so that are actual currencies (for example, Ether is not really a currency per ce).Anyway... my 2 cents.

Instead of trying to integrate several types of crypto's, just integrate BitCoin and use shapeshift.io to shapeshift just about any incoming type of crypto to BitCoin.
And as for asking for Monero specifically, why not just use Dash??
Anyway, from the point of view of ProtonMail, I think just adding BitCoin and using shapeshift.io's services would be the easiest way to roll out a crypto payment system. -

> Monero has less than USD500K
How does that limit your ability to pay for ProtonMail?> Even Litecoin has millions per day to say nothing of Ethereum and Bitcoin.
None of them are anonymous> If you want anonymity then use an HD wallet and/or a mixing service or Shapeshift.io
This is a clunky way of obtaining poor anonymity including a counter party risk and a possibility of tainting your coins> Btw, Dash is anonymous and has 5x the market cap of Monero.
It provides lesser degree of privacy and is not a FLOSS project and many other reasons. -

It makes no sense. Monero has less than USD500K volume per day most days. Why should they bother? Even Litecoin has millions per day to say nothing of Ethereum and Bitcoin. If you want anonymity then use an HD wallet and/or a mixing service or Shapeshift.io. Btw, Dash is anonymous and has 5x the market cap of Monero.

https://www.cryptostorm.is/ is already accepting monero, and benefits from customers paying with Monero. Just saying. Maybe its worth considering.

If your business is privacy, Monero is the best private, decentralized currency available.
