At the very least, parity with the competition on storage is essential to migrate to proton. M365 Premium comes with 1 TB by default, which is the #1 thing holding me back from a full migration away from OneDrive - my photo library (800GB). While buying extra data packs in an option, the pricing pushes things far beyond the competition and makes it not worth it. I don't trust MS with keeping my data private, but I also don't have hundreds of dollars to just throw towards another service on top (Proton), while still being forced to keep the existing MS plan due to storage.

As Proton Drive matures into a serious alternative to Big Tech cloud storage, the inability to purchase additional storage on top of existing plans is becoming a real blocker for long-term adoption.
The Family plan's 3 TB ceiling is easy to hit when photo and video backups from multiple members are involved — especially since phone backups count against the same shared pool. At that point, the only options are a Business plan (wrong pricing model for personal use) or leaving Proton Drive for a competitor.
A simple per-TB storage add-on — similar to what iCloud+ offers — would solve this cleanly without requiring users to switch plans or overpay for features they don't need. It is worth noting that iCloud+ with Advanced Data Protection enabled is a credible privacy-respecting alternative, which means Proton is not competing on privacy alone here.
This is a basic retention issue: users who are already committed to the Proton ecosystem shouldn't be pushed out by a storage ceiling with no upgrade path.

No, the duo plan replaces your unlimited plan so it’s not $15/mo more, it’s a total of $15/mo. Also, it does not combine storage with the unlimited plan, it replaces the unlimited olan’s storage amount with Duo’s storage amount. Also, they updated the Proton Duo plan to now give 2 TB, which is 1.5 TB more (https://proton.me/family).

We have a family plan and one user has O365 and can't migrate fully because we only have 500GB. We should be able to buy extra storage, useless otherwise.

Maybe add an option to pay per +x TB once you're on Unlimited, for example. I don't need all the extras of the more premium plans, I need more storage to fully migrate to Proton.

I need more Drive storage on my Unlimited plan, I don't want to subscribe to Duo (~2x the cost). Analogous service providers offer much more than 500GB at this price point. Storage is cheap. Cut the Proton AI product since no one is ever going to buy it, and use the savings to improve Drive storage.

Right now Proton Unlimited is capped at 500 GB and there isn’t a way to just add extra storage to that plan.

Upgrading to Duo or Family doesn’t stack storage with Unlimited, it replaces the plan. So you wouldn’t get 500 GB + 1 TB.

At the moment the only way to get more space is switching plans or using another storage service alongside Proton Drive.

Migrating from OneDrive with its 1TB storage to the 500GB in Proton Drive Unlimited is not possible for me, since I use more than 500GB in my OneDrive currently.

Migrating to Duo to get more space is not financially attractive, to say the least. I suspect I'm just going to hold my nose and continue with Microsoft 365.

Completely agree, I'm coming from OneDrive (1TB) and Google One (2TB) and to migrate to European cloud the only financially sound option is to find a different hosting party on top of my Proton Unlimited subscription and not use Proton Drive at all. 1TB should be the minimum and expanding just the storage an extra option.

All plans need a revamp on storage space. Proton Unlimited should give at least 1TB to be considered an alternative to other companies.

They could for example make something like proton unlimited + custom drive 1Tb for 12 euro. 2Tb for 15 euro, 5Tb for 18 and 10Tb would be 20 euro for everyone
