How can we improve our accounts settings, payments or plans?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Dead mans switch / legacy settings / post mortem

    set something up where if your account goes inactive (no log in etc) for a settable period of time a preset email will be sent to a preset address.

    example i set up something so if i dont log in in 3 or 14 or 30 or 90 days etc (let us choose how long) a message i have already set up for this will be sent..

    this would have a few uses and is also a pretty decent fallback to losing your account info if you dont set a 2nd account.. you could even send yourself your own forgotten…

  2. Aliases without login option

    The idea to have aliases is submitted many times already. What I would like is that it is not possible to login using an alias and the account password.
    Currently, it is possible to login both with the .ch "username" and the .com "username", one of which is an alias. The more combinations of username and login, the higher the chances someone breaks the combination...

  6. Donations

    Hello Protonmail,

    I'd like to ask if it would be possible to setup a payment/donation system that would allow users to pay with cryptocurrencies.
    Personally, I prefer either Bitcoins or better yet Dash.
    Will this be possible in the foreseeable future?
    I'd very much like to donate to your cause but I'm also security conscious/paranoid.

  8. Separate Notification Email and Recovery Email Addresses

    Please separate the notification email and recovery email fields, so that it is possible to set each one individually. For example, a user may wish to set up a notification email address that cannot initiate account recovery. Another user may also wish to set up a recovery email address that does not receive notifications for incoming emails.

    That would be useful to use with a less-trustworthy email provider or a less-secure account, so that users can receive notifications without worrying about a malicious actor resetting the user's ProtonMail password from the notification email account. Thanks.

  9. Paid Plans Gift Cards

    I think you guys should release gift cards for protonmail so people can upgrade to the paid versions and the ones who cant get a credit card to upgrade to the paid plans can benefit using the gift cards or allow prepaid credit cards for upgrades

  10. Secure login with cellphone?

    There is a concept of performing secure login by signing message with private key stored on your mobile device. Message is displayed on computer screen as QR code, you scan it with your phone, and then phone sends signed message to protonmail servers. No sensitive data sent over the internet, no keylogger problem, very hard to perform man-in-the-middle attack.

    ProtonMail badly needs an effective way to anonymously and securely purchase accounts and features. ZenCash is a growing crypto anonymity platform for currency, messages, and media. It is secured by a backbone of TLS secure nodes and employs zk-snarks transactions for TRULY untraceable transactions. Other "anonmyous" cryptos that don't us SNARKs technology fall short of being as private and secure as ZenCash is. It is a perfect fit. Thank You!

  13. Why not anonymous payment alternative(s)?

    as it is seen among many ideas mentioned above, I think this is one of major missing features at present. For this sole reason I have hesitated to upgrade (specially VPN service). Until anonymous payment methods are provided, I will keep going with free account.

  15. Practicale mirgration for basic users Free fails paid to expensive for what's needed.

    Average person, maybe?
    Need POP to download emails to Thunderbird (Bridge, is for paid)
    Less than 150 emails per month/Not day, actual about 20 for me.
    500Mb storage since I use POP and delete from the server is more than enough 1-2GB would be best
    Email filters (for spam I assume, so it should be free)
    5 email addresses.

    I know that 48 Euros may not be much but it's alot for POP and 5 email addresses with maybe 1-2 GB storage.
    You need an inbetween, call it the FreePLUs1Euro. At 1Euro per month for something basic as I need…

    Gulden is a crypto currency designed for payment.

    Gulden in its current state has the ability to handle 40 transactions per second, but can easily be scaled as needed.

    Gulden on the other hand uses an average transaction fee of NLG 0.01 (€ 0.0020 +/-) irrespectively of the traffic on the Gulden network.

    Gulden payments take now around 15 minutes but it will be reduced to 150 seconds (with the Prime I update of the network).

    Nocks.com allows merchants to directly convert a payment into Gulden in Euro at the current market price.

  19. payment in USD and mobile batch delete capability with check boxes

    Make payment available in USD for us muricans please. Also in the mobile app add check boxes via settings at each email to check for batch delete. This is much faster than having to swipe a hundred emails one by one to delete.

  20. Payment/Subscription options for poor countries - Alternative Plans

    It is pretty hard for those who live poor countries to support protonmail, nevermind the taxes for sending money overseas.

    I suggest you to create cheaper plans with less features
    or Give limited-time benefits (pre-paid phone style) for sporadic donations.
