1. Start Accepting SEPA Direct Debit as a Payment Option

   Dear Proton Team, I would like to suggest and request for Proton to accept SEPA Direct Debit as a Payment Option.
   Right now, all Options are either under US Jurisdiction (Credit Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay) or highly manual and non-refundable (Crypto, Cash).
   Not only is SEPA Direct Debit a very affordable and privacy oriented way to pay (since there is no man in the middle), it would also strengthen European Independence and sovereignty.

2. COMPLAINT: Misleading Info led to a purchase I don't want

   First off, I am posting using a different email than the account I reference below. I do not want whatever company runs my forum account to have access to any of my Proton account info.

   Your "compare plans" feature as viewed on desktop led me to make a purchase I am not happy with. I purchased a monthly Mail Plus subscription yesterday (July 31, 2026). I believed that with this subscription one of the features would be to choose my own VPN server on Proton VPN. After all, it says "1 VPN Slot" and "Access to 2000+ servers in 10 different countries" right below the VPN benefits listed under the plan.

   This is false and misleading. I do not actually have access to all 2000+ servers because the only option my plan actually gets me is the "fastest server" option, which I already had access to with my Free account. I only have access to whatever SINGLE server the program deems to be "fastest" at the time I attempt to connect. That's not 2000+ servers. That's access to one that changes depending on factors outside of my control.

3. Discounted Rate For First Responder and Educators

   First responders (nurses, EMT's, firefighters, etc...) and educators are underpaid for their lifesaving work. Most cannot afford the cost to protect themselves digitally. I believe Proton has the means to offer them comprehensive plans at substantial discount. Please consider this...they deserve that.

5. anonymous code instead of username in cash payments

   I love the privacy-first approach of your services, but I noticed a gap when using cash payments by mail. Currently, you require users to write their Proton username on the envelope to identify the account for crediting
   Suggested improvement:
   Generate a unique, anonymous payment reference code (e.g., PAY-8XJQ92-MNB7) in the user's account dashboard. The user writes only that code on the paper inside the envelope—not their username. Proton links the code to the account internally.
   This small addition would make cash payments truly anonymous end-to-end. Thank you for considering it.

6. Add a 7-day grace period to undo account deletion

   Currently, deleting a Proton account is immediate and irreversible. I propose adding a 7-day "grace period" (or pending deletion state) after a user requests to delete their account.

   Why is this needed?


   • Accidental Deletion & Regret: Users might make a hasty decision or accidentally confirm deletion. A small window allows them to change their mind and avoid losing critical emails, Drive files, and Passwords.


   • Account Hijacking: If a malicious actor gains access to a user's account, they can currently delete it instantly to destroy data. A 7-day window gives the real owner a chance to recover the account before everything is permanently wiped.


   • Industry Standard: Most major tech platforms offer a recovery window (e.g., 14 to 30 days) for exactly these reasons. A 7-day window strikes a perfect balance between user security and prompt data removal.

   How it would work:
   When a user deletes their account, it logs them out and disables incoming mail. If they log back in within 7 days, they get a prompt asking if they want to cancel the deletion request and restore the account. After 7 days, the data is permanently wiped from Proton's servers.

   Since encrypted data already remains on Proton's backup servers for a standard period after deletion, I am not asking to change the data retention policy. I simply request that the immediate destruction of the user's Private Encryption Keys is delayed by 7 days. During this grace period, the account is disabled, but the keys remain intact to allow full recovery if needed.

7. Show OTP key 2FA

   I would greatly appreciate if you could allow users to see the private key of your actual OTP 2FA without having to reenable. This could allow users to have more than one 2FA apps if they want without having to rely on changing it every time they want to add a new one.
   This should help people than want to migrate from 2FA apps that don't have a way to export the codes (such as Microsoft Authenticator).

8. Make the subscription modular

   I would really like to have the choice which service I want to pay for/use. For example: I'm using the unlimited plan for 2 years now and I never touched Proton Wallet.

   I would like it if every service has it's own price, so you can pick exactly what you want. Including Lumo, Meet and Standard Notes (hopefully they make a Proton Notes, but that's a different issue).

    Example:

    Set account to close from 8 PM to 7 AM daily
    No one (including myself) can log in during this window
    Automatically reopens at 7 AM
    Why This Matters

    When I'm sleeping, I don't want to worry about someone getting into my account if credentials are compromised or if there's physical access to a device. This would add a temporal security layer beyond password and 2FA.

    Key Requirements

    Flexible time windows — Choose start/end times, days of week
    Toggle on/off — Enable or disable instantly without losing settings
    Trusted device option — Certain devices could bypass restriction if needed

14. Security concern regarding the shared session between Proton Pass and Proton Mail.

    Hello,

    I would like to report a behavior that I find inconsistent and potentially problematic from a security perspective.

    I use the Proton Pass extension in Chrome. When I initially signed in, I entered the main password for my Proton account. I then configured a PIN to lock Proton Pass, with an automatic locking delay of two minutes.

    Once Proton Pass is locked, the PIN is correctly required to access the vault. However, when I open Proton Mail in the same browser, my mailbox opens immediately, without asking for either my main password or the Proton Pass PIN.

    It therefore appears that the session created by Proton Pass keeps the entire Proton account authenticated, even though Proton Pass itself is shown as locked.

    In my view, this creates a false sense of security. The PIN protects access to the passwords stored in Proton Pass, but anyone with access to the browser can still open and read all the emails associated with the same Proton account.

    I understand that a Proton session may be shared across your different services. However, users should at least be able to enable an additional layer of protection for sensitive services.

    I would therefore ask you to consider one or more of the following solutions:

    Require the Proton Pass PIN before allowing Proton Mail to open automatically.
    Allow users to disable automatic sign-in to other Proton services from a Proton Pass session.
    Provide an independent lock for Proton Mail using a PIN, password, or biometric authentication.
    Allow users to choose which Proton services are permitted to reuse an existing session.

    Ideally, this behavior should be configurable, so that security-conscious users can separate Proton Pass from Proton Mail without having to use multiple accounts or different browsers.

    Could you please confirm whether this behavior is intentional and whether there is currently any setting that prevents Proton Mail from opening automatically when a Proton Pass session is active?

    I would also appreciate it if you could forward this request to your product and security teams.

    Currently, Proton Sentinel can be enabled/disabled just from a click from Proton Pass (i didnt check if on the Proton Mail settings and the bar on the right if it did ask or not), without typing a password.

    For security reasons, the activation or deactivation of Proton Sentinel should ask for password and 2FA

18. Exclude Proton Pass From Account Suspension

    As a proton user who’s account is suspended by Proton’s anti-abuse algorithm (due to a false-positive or unintentional error)
    I want to still have access to Proton Pass
    So that I am not locked out of non-proton services

    We understand the need to enforce and anti-abuse policies, especially around email; but the current anti abuse implementation is heavy handed and does not take into account that proton pass now makes up a portion of a user’s proton plan. So currently when an account suspension is done it locks all proton services including pass, when probably the goal is merely to prevent email abuse, like spamming. Consider reworking the suspension to be more measured, for example only suspending specific services like mail or better yet just the ability to send email other than to proton support. Suspending access to proton pass and other services like drive, especially due to a false positive, is catastrophic for legitimate proton users; as it locks them out of critical non-proton services like online banking, government services and so forth. This is the number one reason Proton Pass cannot be relied upon; the fact that it can so easily become inaccessible and with it a user’s access to all other critical non-proton services. This is the one thing that keeps coming up when I talk to friends and family about moving to proton pass; the fact that someone always knows someone who lost access to pass, even if briefly for a day or two, and don’t want to risk migrating to pass from other password managers as a result. Personally I’ve never heard of anyone getting locked out of other password managers by the companies that provide them but with proton I’ve heard multiple times how this has happened; and then it happened to me for a few days (fortunately it had my passwords backed up in another password managers; but really I shouldn’t have to)

20. Slight modification to higher tier paid plans

    For the Proton Duo and Proton Unlimited plan I suggest more chat history in lumo(I would suggest like from 2-3 months to a year) and slightly more usage, not anything crazy, but just something to differentiate them from lower tier plans
