1. Fix plan-switching/checkout for existing Plus subscribers

   Currently, a subscriber holding one Plus plan (e.g., Mail Plus) cannot purchase or switch to another Plus plan (e.g., VPN Plus) through any self-service path. Checkout fails with 'email already taken' across web, promo pages, and the in-app upgrade button. This forces existing paying customers into either Unlimited (the only working flow) or a manual cancellation-and-refund dance. Please implement: (1) clear messaging when plans conflict, (2) a supported plan-switch or conversion path, (3) checkout that recognizes existing accounts instead of treating them as new signups.

4. Modern electronic payment methods.

   Like blik.com for Poland. I don't know a single person who is still using codes from plastic card. Free plan is enough for me but sometimes i'm in mood to support Proton a little bit for the good job it is doing. But i give up when i see the payment options.

5. Single-seat business plan for Proton Pass (sole proprietors / solo consultants)

   Summary
   One-person businesses cannot buy a Proton Pass business plan without paying for 3 seats. Please offer a single-seat business option. Separately, the VAT exemption at checkout should depend on a valid VAT ID, not on the "I'm buying as a business" checkbox, and customers should be able to change this later.

   Problem
   Proton Pass Essentials and Professional require a minimum of 3 seats. A sole proprietor or solo IT consultant who manages customer credentials needs a business contract (DPA, business invoicing, business tax treatment), but has exactly one user. Today this person has two bad options:

   1. Pass Plus (consumer plan): affordable, but under section 9 of the Terms of Service, consumer plans are "intended for consumers" and the subscriber represents acting as a consumer. That does not fit professional use with customer data, and business tax treatment (reverse charge, VAT ID) is not available on consumer plans.
   2. Pass Essentials/Professional: a business contract, but with a 3-seat minimum the user pays for two seats that will never be used.

   Cost comparison for one professional user in Germany (annual billing, including 19% VAT)
   - 1Password Business: 1 seat, about 115 EUR including VAT (about 97 EUR net). Includes up to 20 guest accounts and a family plan for each seat.
   - Proton Pass Essentials: 3 seats minimum, 71.64 EUR net, 85.25 EUR including VAT. No activity log, no policies, no reports (see below).
   - Proton Pass Professional: 3 seats minimum, 3 x 53.88 EUR = 161.64 EUR net, 192.35 EUR including VAT. No guest accounts and no included family plan that I could find.

   For a single user, Professional costs about 1.7 times as much as 1Password, and the extra seats deliver nothing. Note: all prices are for annual billing. With monthly billing, Essentials costs 4.99 EUR per seat (vs. 1.99 EUR billed yearly), so there is no cheaper way for a single user to get a business contract.

   Why taxes matter for small businesses
   Many one-person businesses in the EU are small-business traders ("Kleinunternehmer" in Germany) and cannot deduct input VAT. For them the gross price is the real cost, while business price lists show net prices, so the gap looks smaller than it is.

   In addition, business plans are invoiced without VAT (reverse charge) for customers outside the issuer's country. That moves the VAT reporting to the customer, which means extra administration for a person who otherwise does not handle VAT returns and gains nothing from it, because they cannot deduct the VAT anyway.

   The checkout currently makes this hard to avoid: the VAT treatment is tied to the checkbox "I'm buying as a business". But "buying as a business" and "wanting to pay VAT directly" are not mutually exclusive. A small-business trader is a business, has no VAT ID, and is not entitled to retain VAT. The VAT exemption should depend on a valid VAT ID, not on the checkbox. I also could not find a way to switch an existing account back to VAT-inclusive invoicing.

   Consumer plans avoid all of this, but then the Terms of Service do not fit professional use. This conflict is the main practical obstacle for solo professionals.

   Compliance features are tied to the larger plan
   Essentials covers the basics, but the features that auditors, customers and insurers ask about (activity log, security and sharing policies, usage and security reports) are only part of Professional. A solo consultant who is asked for an audit trail by a customer or in a supply-chain questionnaire therefore has to buy the 3-seat Professional plan, again paying for two seats nobody uses.

   Request
   Please add one of the following:
   - A 1-seat option for Pass Essentials and Professional (even at a higher per-seat price), or
   - A plan for individual professionals: business contract with DPA, business invoicing, activity log and basic policies, and the developer features (CLI, SSH agent), or
   - Activity log and basic policies in Essentials or in a single-seat tier, so that one-person businesses can meet common compliance requests without a 3-seat minimum, or
   - At minimum, a clear statement in the Terms on whether Pass Plus may be used by self-employed people for professional purposes, and how the DPA applies in that case.

   Independently of the plan question, please also:
   - Apply the VAT exemption (reverse charge) only when a valid VAT ID has been entered, not merely because "I'm buying as a business" is ticked, so that businesses without a VAT ID (e.g. small-business traders) can be invoiced with VAT, and
   - Let customers change this setting later for an existing account.

   Why it matters
   Freelancers, consultants and one-person companies handle other people's credentials and are exactly the audience that values Proton's open-source, Swiss-law, zero-access model. Today they choose competitors with single-seat business plans.

6. Time-controlled logoff

   I use Proton regularly at work, and the computer is accessible to other employees. I’ve been concerned that if something were to happen to me, others could access my account if I hadn't logged out. It would be great to be able to specify how long I want to stay logged in on the device before logging in.

7. Offer sovereign payment option for Proton

   We have seen that dependency to Big Tech and US-based payment infrastructure can be weaponized and used politically in the ICC-case, where a prosecutor lost access to email and payment cards. Proton have a suite of good alternatives to Big Tech e.g. Drive, Mail, VPN etc. You should also offer European sovereign payment options, not only locked to American payment providers like VISA, Mastercard etc.

8. Unique Session ID in Session Management

   I use the full proton suite across several devices, which means that I am always signed in to several services on several devices. Under All settings -> Security and privacy -> Session management, I can see all currently open sessions, but unfortunately sessions do not have unique IDs. And so it is not always clear to me which session is which. For instance, Pass and VPN browser extension sessions are both called "Proton Account for web", and since I don't always know on which day I signed in to which browser extension, I don't know which session is which. Could you add a unique session ID that is displayed both in Session management and also inside the corresponding session (eg browser extension)?

9. Business plan including personal/Family accounts

   Hello,

   Do you offer, or plan to offer, a way to combine a Proton for Business subscription with personal accounts? For example:

   1. A perk similar to 1Password Business, where each Business seat includes a free personal/Family account.
   2. A Google One–style model, where the subscriber can share benefits with a limited number of independent personal accounts.
   3. A discounted bundle of a Business plan and a Family plan.

   Today these require two separate subscriptions with no link between them. If none of this exists, is it on your roadmap?

11. Support for Peppol e-invoicing (Belgian B2B mandate)

    As of 1 January 2026, Belgium requires all VAT-registered businesses to issue and receive structured electronic invoices for domestic B2B transactions, using formats compliant with EN 16931 (Peppol BIS 3.0 is the recommended standard and network). Traditional PDF invoices are no longer accepted for in-scope transactions.

    This means many self-employed and small business users in Belgium (and increasingly across the EU, as similar mandates roll out elsewhere) now legally need to send and receive invoices via the Peppol network rather than as email attachments.

    Could Proton consider:

    Native integration with the Peppol network (as an Access Point, or via partnership with an existing certified Access Point), allowing Proton Business users to send/receive Peppol-compliant e-invoices directly.
    At minimum, documentation or guidance on how Proton Mail/Business fits into a compliant invoicing workflow now that plain PDF-by-email is no longer sufficient for Belgian B2B invoices.

    This is becoming a hard legal requirement, not a nice-to-have, for a growing share of your self-employed and small-business customer base in Belgium. Support here would be a meaningful differentiator, especially as similar EU-wide requirements are expected from 2030 onward.

12. Multi-Tenant Account

    I have multiple companies with multiple domains. I want to have everything on one place (Proton) but separated. I want to have two open tabs with two companies whose emails are not in the same inbox. I want to have separate filtering and forwarding rules, separate spaces, separate users and so on.

14. Increase subscription duration options

    Diving fully into the Proton ecosystem can be a large commitment and I think Proton should consider much longer-term subscription package options for those customers who want to more confidence about committing deeply by intertwining their accounts, passwords, payments, long-term security plans, etc., rather than hoping a more frequent due date cycle doesn’t happen to land on a time of hardship. 5 or 10 year options would be great but, at very least, some kind of ‘stand off’ or buffer alternative for adding multi-year bundles early would be nice, too.

15. VPN/alias pricing only. Dont need drive, calendar and 500 GB

    How about a VPN plan for a couple of bucks. I have a plan but run free VPN and it breaks some sites. The next cheapest is around $15 CAD with a bunch of add-ons that I dont really need.

    I understand that Standard Notes is an independent solution and that its paid features are not included in the Proton Unlimited or Proton Duo plans. Even so, I believe Proton could offer its own note-taking solution integrated into its ecosystem, inspired by the simplicity and practicality of Google Keep, but developed according to Proton’s privacy principles.

    The goal would be to create a simple, fast, and versatile app for organizing different types of content in one place, such as:

    Plain-text or formatted notes.

    To-do lists, shopping lists, and reminders.

    Checklists and notifications.

    Drawings and handwritten notes.

    Images and photographs.

    Audio recordings and audio files.

    Documents and other attachments.

    Links, web pages, and saved content.

    Personal records, ideas, and daily notes.

    It would be interesting for Proton Notes to be included in the Proton Unlimited and Proton Duo plans, giving subscribers a private and integrated alternative without requiring them to purchase another note-taking service separately.

    The app should maintain a strong focus on privacy and security, with features such as:

    End-to-end encryption for notes, drawings, images, audio recordings, and attachments.

    No telemetry, advertising, or tracking.

    Data accessible only to the account owner and to people explicitly authorized by the user.

    Secure synchronization across devices.

    Offline functionality, with synchronization occurring once an internet connection is available.

    Organization through folders, labels, categories, and colors.

    Version history and the ability to recover deleted content.

    Data export in open and accessible formats.

    Integration with Proton Drive for secure storage of files and attachments.

    Integration with Proton Mail, allowing users to save the content or information from an email as a note.

    Integration with Proton Calendar, making it possible to turn a note or reminder into a calendar event.

    Optional integration with Lumo to summarize, organize, search, transcribe audio recordings, and assist with content creation.

    The integration with Lumo should be optional and include clear privacy controls. Users should be able to choose which notes, images, drawings, audio recordings, or documents may be analyzed, without their content being processed automatically or without explicit permission.

17. Cheaper mail plus tiers (5-10GB)

    I just migrated from a Gmail account I've had for 12+ years and noticed a big gap in the current plans.

    My Gmail only had 3GB of data. The free plan (500MB) isn't enough for a migration, but jumping straight to 15GB is overkill. It's a bit of a hurdle for those who want to support Proton but don't need that much space.

    Could we get smaller tiers, like:

    • 5 GB for ~$1/mo
    • 10 GB for ~$2/mo

    This would let users start with a plan that actually fits and upgrade naturally as they grow. If you think the jump from 500MB to 15GB is too big, please upvote!

    Please allow Proton Business administrators to assign different subscription tiers to individual users within the same organization.

    For example, some employees only need Proton Mail Essentials, while others require the full Proton Workspace Standard or Premium features. Currently, organizations must place every user on the same plan, which can create unnecessary costs and make Proton less practical for teams with different roles and requirements.

    Administrators should be able to:
    Assign a plan or license to each user individually.
    Upgrade or downgrade selected users.
    View per-user pricing and feature allocation.
    Manage all users under one organization, domain, and invoice.

    Mixed per-user licensing is already common among other business productivity platforms. Supporting it would make Proton more flexible and cost-effective for organizations of all sizes.

19. Use random hidden username for encryption, let users pick public email

    Description:

    When creating an account, Proton should generate a random internal username (e.g., x7k9f2@proton.me) that handles all encryption behind the scenes. Users wouldn't know or interact with it.

    They would pick a public-facing address (e.g., elias.silva@proton.me). Paid users could swap it for one of their additional addresses. The public address is separate from the encrypted data.

    Current problem:

    My encryption key depends on my username
    If I enter personal info in the username, I'm locked in forever
    Changing it breaks the key or requires a new account

    Generate random crypto username at signup (automatic, invisible)
    Let users choose any public email address

    Why it matters:

    Privacy-focused users might not realize the risk when signing up
    Permanent lock forces people to keep personally identifiable emails
    A privacy service should allow identity changes without starting over

    Simple outcome:

    New users get a hidden crypto ID + a public email of their choice
    For old users, I see two scenarios:
    - could be migrated: their current address becomes hidden and an additional address becomes the public one
    - nothing needs to change: since both systems can exist at once, until and if a better fix is thought

    Description:

    When creating an account, Proton should generate a random internal username (e.g., x7k9f2@proton.me) that handles all encryption behind the scenes. Users wouldn't know or interact with it.

    They would pick a public-facing address (e.g., elias.silva@proton.me). Paid users could swap it for one of their additional addresses. The public address is separate from the encrypted data.

    Current problem:

    My encryption key depends on my username
    If I enter personal info in the username, I'm locked in forever
    Changing it breaks the key or requires a new account

    Proposed fix:
    Generate random crypto username at signup (automatic, invisible)

20. Separate billing cycles for products

    It would be nice if not all products had the same billing cycle. For example, I have a Proton Duo plan that renews every 2 years. However, if I want to subscribe to Lumo+ it changes my Duo plan to be an annual plan and locks Lumo+ in for the whole year.

    Likewise, as a Duo subscriber, if I want to add Meet Professional it adds it for both users, even though I might only want it for 1 user, and perhaps for only a month or two. We need more nuance and variations for how products are billed.
