How can we improve Proton?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  2. Accepting Bug Reports

    I've found numerous bugs within Proton apps, and am doing my best to support development by being a paying customer & reporting them. Unfortunately, Proton doesn't seem to appreciate my efforts, and - is only willing to accept bug reports that come with a screen recording! I know no other company that would refuse to log a bug report on the basis that the user cannot or is unwilling (for example for PRIVACY reasons) to submit a screen recording. I've sent in in step-by-step instructions, device information, app information, and even screenshots; however, still been told consistently by Proton support…

  3. Allow a default app from the sign-in screen

    I find the new "Welcome screen" that requires you to select from a list of apps quite annoying, it would be nice to be able to set a default app that allows you to skip this.

  4. Calendar and Drive icon too similar

    The calendar and drive icon are too similar, for accessibility, the tiny numbers on the Calendar icon really do not separate the overall look between the two app icons. Your Mail icon looks like an M, your first and main product but then you deviate from that style to regular icons to represent the other apps. Would it be quick and easy just to enlarge the numbers on the Calendar icon to help see the difference between the drive and calendar apps?

  5. Modernize Standard Notes

    In a market with consolidated competitors such as Obsidian, Anytype, AFFiNE, among others, it is essential that Standard Notes offers real-time collaboration features, in addition to the other editing functions of its competitors.

    The dated interface is also a problem. When you look at the UI/UX of competitors, you can see how Standard Notes needs a design makeover to modernize it and get it out of that dated software look.

  6. Inactive account policy - keep account when deleting data

    Hello proton team

    I have a new suggestion regarding the inactive account policy. Instead of permanently deleting a user's account if they haven't logged in for a year, I propose an alternative approach.

    The idea is to delete their data while keeping the account itself, which would minimize costs for Proton. In the event that the user logs in again at a later time, they would login to an empty account (like if they just created it), but at least they won't lose their email address.

  7. mail.proton.me should automatically login to last accessed mailbox rather than redirect to account.proton.me/switch

    Current UI: mail.proton.me redirects to account.proton.me/switch and from there after you pick up one, it redirects to https://mail.proton.me/u/<UID>/inbox , e.g. https://mail.proton.me/u/41/inbox

    Instead: mail.proton.me should go directly to the latest accessed mailbox.

  8. follow intended username capitalization

    It's really a silly UI change. The welcome message on the email column layout capitalizes the first letter of non-capitalized username and it really bother me.

    if the username is "username" it should great "username" not "Username".

    That's my rant sorry to bother it's a really small change please fix

  9. Enhancements for desktop, calendar and mail application

    1. Customise the themes of the application in the same way as in its web option.

    2. Manage the settings from within the application itself, not being redirected to the web version.

    3. Reduce RAM consumption.

    4. Basic operation without internet connection. To be able to consult the calendar for at least the whole year or to be able to see my emails already downloaded on the pc even if I don't have a connection.

    5. Separate applications for mail and calendar.

    6. Password to use the applications for greater security.

  10. Don't use Proton username when sending calendar invites

    I use custom domains, partly to avoid giving any personal information to services that don't need it, and partly as an added layer of security for my Proton account. I've never (intentionally) shared my Proton username with anyone. I noticed when sending a calendar invite that it included my Proton username. Can we either get a separate field for invites, or can this be updated to use the existing user-specified display name field?

    I use proton for my small business. It would amazing if I could add a letterhead or watermark option to the signature section.

  12. Delete emails when using forwarding from Gmail

    Allow Proton mail to delete emails in Gmail in addition to just forwarding. Hopefully this isn't something google is preventing. It is available when forwarding Gmail to other providers.

  13. Creating a uservoice account should not automatically connect with Gravatar

    As a Proton user, I expect my interactions with all Proton related systems to have privacy by default. Currently, when creating a uservoice account to access the Proton feature suggestion platform, my Gravatar information is connected to uservoice by default and displayed publicly.

    Connecting uservoice to Gravatar should be done with full informed consent, not automatically.

  14. Respond inline on desktop

    Works on phone app - be consistent and allow to Respond In-line. I hate having people to open up something in an email I forward - they see a blank email until they select to "open" the forward. Who did the bug oversight with such bad inconsistency?

  15. Include Android APKs in all GitHub releases

    For Proton Mail it's already being done:
    https://github.com/ProtonMail/proton-mail-android/releases

    I'd like to see GitHub releases with attached APKs for all other Android apps as well.
    This would be really helpful for people using Obtainium & similar tools.

  17. Don't obscure date/time when hovering over message

    Please don't obscure the date/time of receipt when hovering over a message in the inbox. At the moment, hovering over a message brings up the open, trash, archive, and snooze buttons, obscuring the date and time the message was received. Just add those buttons next to that info.

  18. Configure if mail or calendar desktop app opens first

    It would be nice to choose, if you wanna start Mail or Calendar in the new Windows App. Much better would be to have a separate shortcut for each of them.

  19. Disable auto-rotate for PWAs

    the PWAS seem to have auto-rotate, for chromium based brower, this means, its gonna disrespect the systems auto-rotate feature when it is disabled..

    would be nice if I could check my mails over the PWA without it rotating non-stop, if would like this, I still could use my smart phones os auto-rotate.

  20. Proton Drive for macOS Monterrey and MacBook Air 2017

    Hello developpers !

    Can you make an update of Proton Drive for MacOS, that allows us to use it on former mac. Currently, we need to have macOS 13 or 14, but for exeample, MacBook Air 2017 only works until macOS 12 Monterrey.

    Can you make an app like Proton mail Beta for macOS that works on Monterrey please. It will be very usefull for members who have a premium plan.
