How can we improve Proton?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. mail.proton.me should automatically login to last accessed mailbox rather than redirect to account.proton.me/switch

    Current UI: mail.proton.me redirects to account.proton.me/switch and from there after you pick up one, it redirects to https://mail.proton.me/u/<UID>/inbox , e.g. https://mail.proton.me/u/41/inbox

    Instead: mail.proton.me should go directly to the latest accessed mailbox.

  2. Allow me to set auto-delete trash to X number days/months/years

    I like the auto-delete feature for the trash, but I would like to keep things in my trash for longer then 30 days.

    Please provide more options or allow me to set a custom time period for auto-delete.

  3. Proton Cloud Sync

    A new service similar to Multcloud by Proton.
    This service only purpose will be sync/transfer between different cloud storage providers.

    Types of synchronizations:
    -Programmed or One-Time-Run (Not real time):
    --One-way:
    ---Acumulative: removing files in origin won't delete files in destination, new files in origin will be copied into destination
    ---Mirror: origin and destination files are exactly same, deleted files in origin remove files in destination, created files in origin will be created in destination
    ---Update: all files in destination will be removed and then all files in origin will be copied to destination
    ---Update Transfer: equal to update but transfering…

  4. "Inbox" and "Sent" / "Boite de réception" et "Envoyés"

    Hello,

    When "conversation mode" is selected, the "Inbox" and "Sent" folders contain discussions including both incoming and outgoing mails.
    Only unanswered messages (sent or received) need to go through both folders to be followed up. (But they can be found in "All messages")

    The whole thing is a bit confusing.

    What would you think, for this "conversation mode", of grouping (or enabling to be grouped by an option) the two folders "Inbox" and "Sent" into a single folder "Conversations" ?

    Eventually, two labels automatically added, "Received" and "Sent", could differentiate messages in conversations and make them easier…

  5. follow intended username capitalization

    It's really a silly UI change. The welcome message on the email column layout capitalizes the first letter of non-capitalized username and it really bother me.

    example:

    if the username is "username" it should great "username" not "Username".

    That's my rant sorry to bother it's a really small change please fix

  6. Enhancements for desktop, calendar and mail application

    1. Customise the themes of the application in the same way as in its web option.

    2. Manage the settings from within the application itself, not being redirected to the web version.

    3. Reduce RAM consumption.

    4. Basic operation without internet connection. To be able to consult the calendar for at least the whole year or to be able to see my emails already downloaded on the pc even if I don't have a connection.

    5. Separate applications for mail and calendar.

    6. Password to use the applications for greater security.

  7. Keyboard shortcut to change font size / zoom

    In the ProtonMail app on Windows 10, when drafting or viewing an email, I am unable to use CTRL+wheel or CTRL+/- key to increase/decrease the size of the font. If you do not have this change in progress, please add this to the features in ProtonMail app. Thank you.

  8. Proton Linux Distro or recommended list

    This is likely so far outside of Proton's business sphere that it's an instant no-go, but... consider this a "Dear Santa," however unlikely:

  9. Add SimpleLogin to app switcher

    When logged in to any Proton service (mail, calendar, drive, etc.) through the website, there are 4 squares in the header that when clicked show a list of Proton apps.

    Please add SimpleLogin there as well. This makes it easier to open other Proton apps when already logged in to one.

  10. Download all attached files of a multiple-mails conversation in one go

    In a conversation where there are attached files you have to find them and download them one by one. There should be an option to download them all in one go

    I use proton for my small business. It would amazing if I could add a letterhead or watermark option to the signature section.

  12. Mobile device management for Proton for Business

    I’d like to have mobile device management features in Proton for Business plans. It would allow enabling work profile on Android (https://www.android.com/enterprise/work-profile/) so that users can have both their Proton personal account and professional account in isolated profiles on their device. I guess the same kind of feature exists for iPhones.

  13. Create limited passwords to access certain parts of a Proton account

    Summary:
    Allow users to create a second, "limited" password for their Proton account, which would only provide access to limited data (e-mails and Proton Pass data) of their choosing.

    How it would work:

    1. A user creates a limited password for their account and chooses which of their Proton e-mail addresses and Proton Pass data are accessible with it.

    2. Upon logging in with the limited password, only those selected addresses (and associated messages and data) and Proton Pass passwords are visible and accessible.

    3. Other e-mail addresses and Proton Pass data remain completely hidden and inaccessible.

    Purpose:
    Limited passwords would help users…

  15. Delete emails when using forwarding from Gmail

    Allow Proton mail to delete emails in Gmail in addition to just forwarding. Hopefully this isn't something google is preventing. It is available when forwarding Gmail to other providers.

  16. Proton laptop

    This is a dorky suggestion from someone very low in IT knowledge, but I am sick of working from a computer (MS) that has me logged in and tracked all the time. I'm just sick of creepy. Maybe because I lived in a time when things weren't this creepy.

    Proton could develop a chatAI similar to the main ones on the market (even in the style of Brave's Leo), which would include text, images and, of course, other integrations with Proton's services.

  18. Inactivity options, sign-out/lock

    The new desktop client does not have "Keep me signed in" as an option because that is its default and it can't be altered.

    This is not documented for the new desktop client which can lead to people wasting time trying to sort out what is happening.

    What does this do:
    If you don't sign out but simply close the app window next time the protonmail app starts you are not challenged for a password. This still occurs if you reboot the laptop/pc/virtual machine.

    The only time you have enter a password is when you reset the process by signing…

  19. App specific One-Time Passwords

    Add the ability to generate one-time passwords to log in to Proton apps (mail, pass, VPN), without the need of typing in the "master password" to log in to any of these apps on new/insecure devices. Generated one-time password (if app specific) can be shared with someone or used to log in to only the app it was generated for (e.g. ProtonVPN) to keep the main account password and the rest of your apps secure

  20. Creating a uservoice account should not automatically connect with Gravatar

    As a Proton user, I expect my interactions with all Proton related systems to have privacy by default. Currently, when creating a uservoice account to access the Proton feature suggestion platform, my Gravatar information is connected to uservoice by default and displayed publicly.

    Connecting uservoice to Gravatar should be done with full informed consent, not automatically.
