Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

An error occurred while saving the comment Nikolaus Kühn commentedAs a paying proton mail user that only rarely needs VPN country selection is the much more interesting feature than speed. If I would rely on VPN as a daily driver I would pay for it to get the full speed.
As a completely free user (i.e. not even paying for mail) I'd say any restriction is fine but I lack a plan differentitation for paying customers that are not needing VPN a lot.Nikolaus Kühn supported this idea ·
PS: Current Family is not a bad plan! E.g. needing a lot of VPN or for me (adult with income) giving my elderly parents secure accounts with much better protection from being scammed and bombarded with ads they cannot differentiate from actual content.
But not for a parent with 3 6-12 year olds that now need an address and a partner that is not willing to transition to a new address.
Being cheap and attractive to "families with actual kids" is also a really nice way to grow the future user base. There is a privacy concepts barrier obviously (kids privacy from parents) but there is also a legal aspect that until a certain age you can have them as users through the parent with parental controls or not at al (or, the parent knowing their passwords which is even worse than a parent having certain administrative control)
