Samsung is by far one of the more egregious spy/bloatware phone makers; it doesn't make sense to have a privacy - focused app while also letting a firm that basically owns South Korea slurp up all your data. I recommend using something like shizuku on android to purge Samsung apps and use FOSS alternatives

They would have to hire staff and assume liability for the information; self-education is part of good security culture. Don't rely on the tech to do everything for you

Fwiw if you are on desktop you can have two instances of ProtonVPN running together, one on the PC and one on the browser. Just set up inverse settings on each.
Although, I am not a tech guy so it's possible it is by design since cross-site trackers might get ya if you are turning the VPN off and on for just single websites. It's better to have a consistent setup imo

Get the VPN browser extension and whitelist it / turn it off & on. Really though, you might want to try the Stealth protocol first since the site blocking you and persuading you to turn off your VPN and thus send your bare IP address is exactly their goal

It already has this feature as of Jan 2026, and as long as I can remember. Apparently Apple has some sort of issue though because their devices are so **** about being little walled gardens
"Does advanced kill switch protect me when booting up or shutting down my PC or Windows tablet?
Yes. The advanced kill switch creates persistent filters using the Windows Filtering Platform to prevent all internet connections outside the VPN interface. These filters remain in place even when your device is booting up or shutting down."

One option is maybe to have a browser extension (like Firefox ProtonVPN) with a whitelist for the bank or whatever, and a desktop instance with the killswitch (both can run, like Secure Core), so you can sort of peel one layer of the onion safely without exposure to your ISP. Moot point now I guess but there are some work arounds

They would hemorrhage money if torrenting was included in the free tier

Proton runs their own in-house DNS servers to prevent DNS leaks.
Although Amazon itself literally gives Alexa and Ring data to the police without your knowledge, so imo boycotting Amazon and sailing the high seas is preferable and safer.
