I'm not an expert, but this seems like a totally new area of work to what Proton has been doing so far. It's not related to emails, drive or password managers, it's working with telecommunications and carriers. And I think there already are such or similar solutions, e.g. SMSPool.

I feel that in the privacy "industry", it's better if there are many *different* companies and services that specialize in their areas. This way each one can focus on their individual field. And I don't mean the biggest possible fine-graining of services - Proton is now developing their whole ecosystem (drive, calendar, meets etc.), and I endorse it, because we are seeing that a privacy-promoting company has the courage to be in many aspects a Google/Microsoft alternative system. But adding a privacy/anonymity system for phone numbers feels too much to me. I would rather Proton kept developing the email/drive/cloud ecosystem.

    But maybe others feel different.

@Bobibo But it's still possible to log in using any of the additional addresses. This is the security risk.

Agreed. BitWarden has this feature and is very often mentioned as an advantage in comparisons of top password managers.
