    Fully agreed! Yes, please!

As one possible workaround for Windows users, you can use the following codes to “manually” key in the curved quotation marks just about anyplace in Windows, not limited to Proton Docs.

    1. Make sure Number Lock is on.

    2. Hold the Alt key.

    3. While holding Alt, use the number pad* to type the 4-digit code for the quotation mark you want:
    0145 for ‘
    0146 for ’
    0147 for “
    0148 for ”

    4. Release Alt and the quotation mark will appear.

    * The number keys at the keyboard’s top row won’t work for this; you will need to use the 10-key number pad at the right. Not all laptop keyboards have a 10-key number pad; in that case, check to see if the laptop has a number pad overlay on the letters, as it might be possible to use a combination of Fn and Alt to type these codes. Alternatively, I’ve seen 10-key number pads, wireless and wired, online for $10 to $20 (USD).

Of course, the ideal thing would be if Proton Docs could add smart quotation marks as a built-in feature. 😁
