I also really want to migrate but as a college student cannot, due to this - professors grade in part on papers following MLA and APA formats. The current automatic extra space after a paragraph is even baked in if a paper is composed in Proton Docs so that it cannot be removed later by copying to a different word processor, to reformat to APA or MLA. Until this is fixed, it is a dealbreaker for anyone taking a college class - we have no choice but to use other services.

Wanted to add my voice to this, as someone who wanted badly to switch to the Proton ecosystem to get away from the Google ecosystem; the problem that stopped me from doing so is exactly this, in my case as someone taking college classes - and this issue probably prevents anyone taking college classes from switching to Proton. Universities require papers to follow specific professional formats like APA or MLA and assign Grades in part on that - down to specific spacing requirements. Proton Docs automatically adds an extra space at the end of each new paragraph, which does not align with APA format. I thought I could get around this and still keep my stuff in Proton Docs, by first composing my papers in Proton Docs then just copying them into another word processor to change the spacing to APA - but that didn't even work, because the extra space after a paragraph is baked in to the formatting if I originally composed in Proton Docs, and I cannot remove it later. Whatever the thinking is behind the current structure, please be aware that it may be stopping all college students from switching to Proton Docs, and please make the changes necessary so people can format in Proton Docs the way academic institutions require.
