Same boat - contacts are the last thing keeping me on Google.
To be fair, some pieces are already there: Proton Contacts stores names, emails, phones, addresses, birthdays and notes, and the Google import works. But it's a one-time snapshot, and the whole thing lives in a side panel inside Mail.
What I need:
- A standalone Android app that can be my default contacts app, with two-way sync to the system address book so caller ID and WhatsApp just work
- A standalone web app: a full page for managing contacts, not a Mail side panel
- Editing on mobile (the app is view-only right now)Mail, Calendar, Drive and Pass all got their own apps. Contacts is the missing one, and it's the difference between keeping my contacts at Google or leaving for good.

Man, isn’t a contacts app pretty simple data? I feel like someone could vibe code this in a day.
Seems like a huge gaping hole in the Proton ecosystem.
Please make this a priority!

I have the same problem. Over the years I have used several password managers, such as Google's and Apple's, and imported all of them into Proton Pass. Each one saved its own copy of the same login, so I now have many duplicate entries. They usually share the same username and password but have slightly different URLs.
What I would like:
1. Suggested merges: show me a list of likely duplicates, and let me review and approve each merge. This is similar to how Google Contacts suggests merging duplicate contacts.
2. Manual merge: let me select two or more entries and merge them into one login with multiple URLs.
3. Automatic merge, only when confidence is very high: for example, when the username and password are identical and the websites are the same domain.
