Open email in separate window
Some emails are too wide to be displayed inside the third frame of the web-app. We have the option to change the appearance of the web-app from three to two frames but it could be done easier.
I request an option to double-click an email in the list to open this email in a separate window. This window should than open as wide as necessary to fit the width of the specific email.

New Proton mail user and astounded this is not a basic functionality. Ouch! Can only echo many comments already posted about how important it is to be able to have multiple emails open simultaneously. A very basic feature that begs the question: do the designers of pm actually use their own product??

This is a must have feature.

In the Column and Row Layout respectively, a single click opens the selected mail in a full window (within the ProtonMail window) or the detail pane next to it (right hand side).
A double-click on a mail should open it in a full separate window or tab instead (configurable as a new Settings option).

Request to have the ability to open email in its own full size window. Issue: Reading messages on my tiny Chromebook have the added burdened by the fact that the left column (Dashboard, Upgrade plan, Recovery, etc.) takes up a 1/4 of the window, rendering the content I'm trying to read ridiculously tedious to read at the minimum of speed.

It would be great if there were a button or a right-click option in the browser to open an email in a separate tab so you can view multiple emails simultaneously. This would also allow you to open emails to view later while going through your list, not to have to constantly start over in a duplicate proton mail tab.

Throwing my votes on this request as well. There are times when it is needed to simply double-click an email message and it opens up in its own window and you can OS/tab switch to that mail message quickly. Outlook has provided this for years and is one of the last things I and the family miss since switching to Proton. Note this only really needs to be for desktops (MacOS first ;-)). Keep up the great work Proton Team and please add this functionality to Proton Mail!

This is perhaps one of the biggest issues when using proton for business. I need to convey information from one team to another while filtering out sensitive information. Not having the ability to have an existing email in a separate window to view while typing a new email in another window makes basic emailing extremely challenging.

Seem such a simple thing to do Proton, and if not the value to regular users (not to mention those not coming or leaving your business because of this- I'm new and this is frustrating already, even if I really want to leave outlook... means worth the effort to implement?

We NEED this.
I especially need this when I am paying bills. For example if I get an email from a bank, I will check the info against my banking software. Or I make a purchase online, I'd like to be able to pop open the window (without have to move the entire app window) that opens on right side of the screen so I can then go into the banking software and enter the amount.
Really important feature.

Some mails are wider than the space you have with the column-view on a 13-inch laptop. Yes, you can change the view in settings, but if you don't want to change the view in general, a double click to open an email in a separate window is a most common use case, isn't it?
I gave you 3 points.

Hi There Team,
I have been using Microsoft Office 365, and one feature that I find particularly convenient is the ability to open an email in a new window simply by double-clicking on it. This functionality allows for a seamless and efficient email management experience. Now, as I transition to using ProtonMail webmail, I am curious to know if a similar feature can be implemented.
I want to emphasise that I enjoy using ProtonMail and, at this time, I do not wish to integrate my ProtonMail account with Microsoft Office 365. Instead, I am specifically interested in exploring the possibility of having a feature in ProtonMail webmail that allows me to open emails in a new window with a double click, akin to what is available in Microsoft Office 365. This feature is important to me because it allows for easy customisation of the preview window for each newly received email. Currently, without this feature, I find it inconvenient to adjust the preview window for each email individually.
In order to enhance my overall user experience and streamline my email management process within ProtonMail, I am keen on exploring the possibility of integrating this functionality. If there are any technical constraints or additional information needed to consider this request, please let me know. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to any insights or solutions you can provide.
Cheers

Yeah so I just migrated from Outlook to ProtonMail because I thought I'd give it a try (with my custom domain email). I use it for jobs, and not having a pop-out chat is quite a deal breaker. Is there any way to get more traction on this? I added my three votes...

As a separate use case for the same feature, I receive some emails which contain a very long amount of text to read (it's part of a fiction story) and it's nicer to popout the email to its own window so I can resize it (narrow and tall) for reading, and keep the window until I'm done reading the whole thing, without it being in the way of seeing new incoming emails. So, I prefer the separate window to show only the email and not have the rest of the Proton Mail web-app UI. And, that it is fully resizable by the user.
I'd be fine with the "Open in a New Window" action in the same list as View Headers and other less used options.

Sadly, I'm out of votes and don't know how to regain some. This idea is very important to me, I miss this functionality since I've started using ProtonMail.

I would also like to be able to see more of my composition as I write an email. As well, controlling the scrolling, up and down, is often very difficult and annoying.

I was reading my emails through the proton.me web-interface and I liked the use of the up and down arrows (to move across the folders), then the left and right arrows (to move between the columns, which allows to choose the emails and then to scroll through the email itself).
However, my laptop screen is a bit small and there is little space for the email to be fully displayed (I would need to scroll left and right to be able to read it, which is quite difficult).
I was looking for any button or option to quickly display the email full screen or to pop it up in a separate window to allow easy reading? Or, perhaps a shortcut key I could use to make this happen?

Investing 3 votes to this issue. Please bring the small popup icon and/or double-click behavior into the browser for a popup UX such as that found with other email programs (I would recommend both the popup in a new window and the popup into a new tab as minimal, whether that be via a setting or preferably just an interaction on-the-fly each time you initiaite a popup). Thank you!
