An error occurred while saving the comment usrvce commentedhttps://www.theverge.com/2023/12/14/24000696/proton-mail-desktop-app-mac-windows-encrypted
" Users will be able to look at a limited number of both read and unread emails while offline. "Statement is vague since there is no user controllable mechanism to determine what/which Email and folders, incl. attachments to download and duration to keep for offline access for paid subscribers (unlike Thunderbird for example).

We have given this quite a bit of thought, but at the present moment, it is not clear the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages.
The biggest problem is search. Encrypting all metadata would break metadata search entirely on the web client as there is still no efficient way to handle search of encrypted data within a browser.
Secondly, metadata encryption’s value from a privacy standpoint is also somewhat dubious. Because we ultimately must deliver the message to the recipient, we must know who the recipient is. At the current time, there still isn’t any proven and viable way to work around this.
Metadata encryption is an area of continued research for us, and when the opportunity arises and the technology for doing this matures, we will definitely implement it in ProtonMail.

An error occurred while saving the comment usrvce commentedOffline full or user selective download to store Emails, attachments and folders locally (encrypted) including all local operations (read/write/edit/delete, etc.) is a basic feature for various obvious reasons yet one is caught with a huge surprise that this fundamental feature is missing (in a modern App(lications) like ProtonMail mobile app and Desktop Web version), rendering it basically useless without any internet connection.
Please response to help us understand why this is still not a priority now that we are almost at the end of the year 2024.
Thank you!

Although it appears that a previously opened Email using ProtonMail mobile App (Android) continues to be available offline, this is still impractical as the user now has to keep a tab on each and every Email that has been opened before i.e.contents of an important Email not accessible if not opened previously.usrvce supported this idea · -

Work on this feature has started, beginning with iOS availability.
An error occurred while saving the comment usrvce commentedThe system selector should auto highlight the next Email in the Inbox without first going back yet should not auto open the newly selected mail in a separate window-in-a-window (Row Layout) or the detail pane (Column Layout) unless the user chooses otherwise (configurable in a new Settings option).
This control is crucial particularly when using the Web version because there remains the risk of unwanted Emails landing in the Inbox which end up mistakenly being opened automatically e.g. phishing / SPAM mails not caught by ProtonMail.

Instead of different system Inboxes for each custom email address/alias, consider using Filters with Conditions set to "If the recipient matches somedomain" to move them automatically into specific Folders such as "somedomain" which you created beforehand.
