1. Check/to-do list, routine feature and urgency/importance level + emojis (on desktop/web)

   I think a checklist and sub-task feature to add the ability to mark off calendar items that are finished and repeat common tasks easier would be beneficial. The current set-up makes it difficult to keep records of what was done and can get overwhelming to look at. The user needs to laboriously go back and change titles or descriptions to know what was successfully completed.

   The checklist could be similar to height.app where there are just boxes to check each thing or crossing off the task. Checking something off just needs to be easy and simple with as minimal steps as possible. A check box or double clicking to strike through. If you want to add complication, maybe there could be a cute animation once something is crossed off. Have fun with it!

   The "routine" function could be like putting in a note for the task and have the option to cross off each to-do of that routine. Then could be more easily repeated without filling in specific time slots. It could just have the entire block be <routine name> then inside it is broken down into multiple steps that can be marked off. If combined with the first idea, it could have a toggle-able option to cross off the entire routine once every sub-task is completed. For example, maybe working out is the master-task name and the workout routine is the sub-tasks. Then the description of each sub-task could be instructions for good form. Once each exercise is marked done, the master-task is auto-checked. Another use might be each master-task could have each sub-task being the steps to achieve it.

   Emojis can step in for urgency, but maybe there could be a way to have a dot of color to represent urgency, maybe tied with amount completed. Having a visual reminder of urgency/importance might look like a color block, or WiFi like waves. It would tie in with the routine idea well by helping organize what is the most important when trying to figure out what to do with a wide variety of tasks that need to be done when there is no specific time to do tasks during the day.

   The goal is to be more accessible to ADHD/neurodivergent folks (myself included) while also making task keeping visible, clean, and less overwhelming. Currently it's difficult for the user to know what they have successfully completed compared to what time has just caught up with and the variety of tasks in the calendar can get incredibly messy. The description box, while able to write in the tasks needed, it has no way of checking something off besides deleting it or typing <complete> and then the user has no record unless its external or its otherwise very laborious to do. The lack of detail can make looking at the calendar very overwhelming because its full of smaller tasks without having an ability to easily group things. Having the organization structures, and the ability to write sub-tasks, would keep things clean, organized, and all in one place and makes it easier to know what part to start with. Checking something off also gives dopamine so it feels good to use Proton Calendar, improving customer retention and making the app easier to use. Emojis are just fun and a nice QOL change.

2. Event Presets for Calendar

   When creating a new event in Proton Calendar, it would be nice to be able to have a list of custom presets to choose from. I often have to input events that have the same details (duration, name, calendar) at different times, and it would be helpful to not have to fill in each data field every time.

3. File sharing: Add option to share with public link AND EMAIL the link right away with mail app

   When sharing a file by creating a public link, it would be very handy if you could instantly send this link via email.
   So when you created the link, there should be a button that directly opens the mail app and pastes the created link into the body of a new email.
   It would also be nice if you could create an email template with a custom text (configurable in settings) that is also pasted in the mail like:

   "Hi, i would like to share a file with you. You can download it here
   <<link>>
   kind regards, Peter" as the template text - and <<link>> will be replaced with the URL when composing the email.

4. Support Aliases from Academic Domains such as acm.org and ieee.org

   Although Proton currently has great aliasing features, academic users who have to use acm.org or ieee.org email addresses appears to be unable to configure the usage of Proton Mail successfully with those domains. We're forced to use other mail services like Google/Microsoft for such forms of aliasing.

   Can the Proton team consider some form of aliasing support for these types of domains? Alternatively, if such configurations are possible, can the Proton team please share instructions on how to do so in the Support documentation?

5. Advanced PGP Key Management for Proton Mail Users

   Description

   Currently, Proton Mail allows users to manually add PGP public keys to external addresses only.
   
   This creates several limitations for users with more complex encryption setups or personal key hierarchies.

   ---

   Problem 1: Limited Manual Control

   Users cannot manually specify whether an email should be:

   • Signed only
     
   • Encrypted only
     
   • Signed and encrypted

   Instead, Proton Mail enforces a fixed default behavior per contact.
   
   If a user wishes to change how messages are sent, they must manually adjust the contact’s encryption settings each time.
   
   This slows down workflows and complicates secure communication.

   Problem 2: External Keys for Proton Addresses

   Some Proton users maintain their own personal PGP key pairs associated with their Proton-hosted email addresses (for example, to preserve local control or maintain a separate trust model).

   However, when receiving messages from other Proton Mail users, Proton’s system automatically forces the use of the Proton-managed encryption keys, preventing users from:

   • Assigning their external public key to that same Proton address, or
     
   • Choosing an alternative key manually for encryption/signing.

   This limitation breaks compatibility with privacy-focused setups or air-gapped key workflows.

   Problem 3: Security Tradeoff

   The only workaround — uploading the external private key to Proton — undermines the purpose of maintaining an offline or self-controlled key.
   
   Even if Proton’s storage is zero-access, this still requires trusting Proton’s infrastructure with a key that ideally should never leave local custody.

   1. Manual Key Override
      
      Allow users to override key selection on a per-message basis, including:

      • “Sign only”
      • “Encrypt only”
      • “Sign and encrypt”
      • “Send plaintext”

   2. Custom Key Mapping for Proton Addresses
      
      Enable assigning an external public key to a Proton-hosted address, even when interacting with another Proton user.

   3. Per-Message Key Selection UI
      
      Add an “Advanced” or “PGP Options” dropdown when composing a message to select signing/encryption behavior or which key to use (similar to Thunderbird or GPGMail).

6. Calendar reminders

   When I create a new appointment and want to set a reminder the default value is 60 minutes before, which is fine.
   Then you have the option to add another "custom" reminder which I usually use to add the alternative "1 Day before".

   But the default suggestions are:
   * at the time of the event
   * 10 minutes
   * 30 minutes
   * 1 hour
   * 1 week
   * CUSTOM

   which means that you always have to press custom and, edit the predefined value (which is 15),
   set the value to 1 instead, and then finally choose the option "Days" and click Done.

   I believe there is an unecessary big gap between the predefined 1 Hour to 1 week? The option to be reminded 1 day ahead is somewhat buried in several steps.

   Just my opinion, maybe there are many more users that would have the 1 Day reminder more accessible?

7. Schedule send an encrypted email (to non Proton email users)

   I haven't found how to schedule send an email for which the external encryption is activated. I suppose it is not currently possible since the encryption option is set with an expiration date. But it would be great to allow the option to schedule send the encrypted email and start the expiration period (+28 days or custom expiration period) when email is delivered.

   I have recently struggled to use Proton email alias addresses. Many companies are now automatically blacklisting the alias domains and preventing me from doing simple tasks such as sign-ups and registrations. This makes the alias service practically useless.

   Please do something to fix the poor domain reputations so that we can go back to using our generated alias' as they were intended. Thank you.

9. Make event color customization available to free accounts

   If we want more people to move to Proton, a calendar without the ability to color code events inevitably will turn people away from even giving it a real try and eventually moving fully to a paid account. If Proton insists on paywalling such an integral feature, at least give free users a handful of color options; then if you want to paywall the color picker, at least you’re not turning away potential users with calendars that appear to lack even something as basic as color customization.

10. Customize Email Reply Chains

    Oftentimes, I have clients who will reply to an existing email chain instead of composing a new message. We should be able to break apart email reply chains into new chains and change the subject in future replies.

    For example, I have an email chain with the subject "Meeting on July 14th". The client replied to the email for ideas about our upcoming meeting on October 6th. I wish to take this single email and remove it from the July 14th chain and start a new one for October 6th.

11. Customize Side Panel in Mail

    I would very much like to hide a couple of the elements in the Proton Mail side panel. I would like to be able to hide "Views" and "Folders" as I don't use them and they just take up space.
    At the very least, it would be nice to have the option of moving them to the bottom so the Labels element (which I use a lot) is higher in the left panel.

12. Customize Proton web mail client toolbar

    Currently in the toolbar you can; mark unread, trash, move, label, and filter.
    With an additional click you can; archive, move to spam, print, etc.
    It would be nice to be able to customize that toolbar and maybe even add more icons, there is plenty of blank space in the bar to add several more icons.

14. Edit email in HTML and CSS for power users

    It would be nice to have the option to do custom HTML/CSS when sending an email. Most other email clients don't have this feature or have their limits on a feature like this, and so there is A LOT of potential for Proton to easily compete in this category.

    Proton currently has an option to switch over to plain text, but that seems more like a notepad/wordpad thing than a place for power users who would like to custom-write HTML for their emails. In fact, the plain text feature that currently exists feels like what I'd expect back in the early 2000s for an email; that's fine, it's great for people who don't want an overly complex email process. Keep it! But add a third option for power users that want to put

    into the email (hopefully that appears in plain text when I click post idea, otherwise it's gonna look weird). For me, the best thing I currently know of to compare to is HTML view on Blogger Articles and pages; there, when I am writing an article, I can switch to HTML view and easily correct weird bits of code or do other edits I otherwise wouldn't easily be able to do. I know Blogger/BlogSpot is not an email client, but it's the best demonstration I can think of to explain what I'm talking about.

    The W3Schools website also will show a preview with their HTML editor simultaneously with the HTML code, so perhaps, that's one step farther for this feature idea.

    I'm not sure how much of Proton's user base is made up of power users, but if Proton is trying to get more normies on the platform, then the edit HTML feature could be hidden behind an extra menu or something so that the normies don't accidently click into a POV they don't understand... maybe power users have to enable the button in settings to then have the third option... just an idea if this would be a problem for normies (I know it can feel weird to see something (like html) you've not really seen much before, so I sympathize with normies on this).

    I think one other person sort of mentioned this, but I wanted to give my own thoughts on this feature idea.

16. Sticky behavior for tags/labels for priority sorting (e.g., in Inbox)...

    Create an option to make a tag/label "sticky". Or, option to make all messages with a specific custom tag(s)/label(s) sticky in the Inbox and other folders. Starred doesn't quite do it, as you cannot set that as a sort condition. Sticky custom tag/label would be more precise and flexible than 'starred', because one might 'star' a message for multiple reasons.

    And/or, option to set a tag or folder as the default view, upon application loading.

    Use case: tag "needs followup" or "to do" as default view so that user sees that first thing.

    Note: 'Sticking' meaning that they appear prioritized at the top of the messages list no matter the sorting setting for a particular folder.

17. Hide emails in specific folders from showing in All Emails

    I use "All mail" all the time to view all the emails at once. But often see emails that isn't important there. So would love too be able to hide emails that are in specific folderes from showing up in "All mail". So basically just like the "Exclude Spam/Trash from All mail" setting, but just for custom folders.

    I’d like Proton Calendar to support auto-numbering (or title templating) for recurring events, so each occurrence can have a unique title without manually creating separate events.

    Problem

    Right now, recurring events keep the same title for every occurrence. For workflows like weekly meetups or lessons, this makes it hard to track progress at a glance.

    Example

    Create one recurring event with a base title like:

    Event {#}

    Then the generated occurrences would show:

    Event 1

    Event 2

    Event 3
    …and so on.

    Suggested implementation

    Add an optional toggle like “Auto-number occurrences” or allow placeholders in the title:

    {#} = occurrence number (starting at 1)

    (optional extras) {date}, {weekOfYear}, etc.

    Notes / edge cases

    If one occurrence is deleted/canceled, numbering should stay stable (or offer a “renumber future occurrences” option).

    Editing one instance should keep its custom title (do not overwrite).

    This feature is fully local/metadata-only and shouldn’t affect encryption/privacy.

    Why it matters

    This would save time and improve clarity for:
    weekly meetups, classes, therapy sessions
    sprint reviews, pay-period check-ins
    recurring tasks where sequence matters.

20. Automatic merge of a free Proton account into a paid one (recover old @proton.me address)

    Dear Proton Team,
    I just upgraded to Proton Unlimited and, like many long-time users, my main address is still stuck on an old free account.
    The current manual process (support → delete free account → manually re-add the address) is painful and causes permanent data loss.
    Please add a long-requested feature:
    Self-service merge of a free Proton account into an existing paid account
    Desired flow:

    In the paid account → Settings → Identities & addresses → “Import old Proton address”
    Secure authentication on the free account (password + 2FA)
    The old address is automatically added as an additional address/alias in the paid plan
    User choice:
    – Keep all emails and folders from the old account (full merge) OR
    – Only recover the address (delete free account after migration)

    This would:

    Drastically reduce support tickets (this is the #1 request on Reddit/Proton community)
    Remove a major barrier to upgrading to paid plans
    Bring Proton on par (or ahead) of competitors like Tuta and Fastmail

    Thousands of us are waiting for this. It would be a game-changer.
