Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

I've been on linux for years.
I've paid for multiple apps to attempt to sync proton drive, and nothing is reliable. It's quite frustrating. I'd rather pay a bit more and have proper linux support for Drive.
I understand the need for the authenticator, if you're locked out your proton pass account, how do you use your OTP? So I get that 100%, and I'm not adverse to where development has been in focus.
I would, however, like to request that Proton focuses on Linux more. Windows and mac become increasingly more AI focused, and less privacy focused, whilst Linux distributions, like Fedora, Debian etc. Are private by default. Proton should be supporting the development of apps on linux, as it's more in-line with the philosophy, and more and more people will be moving to linux as W10 support has ended.

I canceled my Proton Unlimied subscription. I had an Unlimited subscription for about 2 years. It was up for renewal in early December. I canceled my plan.
I'd already found better individual soltions for everything. The fact that they never provided a Linux drive solution was what finally drove me away. Not only did they never provide a drive solution, but they were devoting development resources to other silly products. If any of you still think they should get your money, you're fooling yourselves.

CRITICAL NEED FOR DRIVE CLIENT FOR LINUX.
I upgraded to Duo for more space, then changed my OS to linux and was surprised at how SHOCKINGLY bad the support for proton drive was, considering all the other services work fine. It's not like you just have to fiddle with rclone for a bit; it's that NOTHING works, absolutely nothing.
I can't even access my files anymore, and you can't sync 2TB of files through a browser.
Nothing else you're doing with Proton Drive is more important than this. Forget the albums and AI and all the other stuff, none of it matters.
Let us sync our files on Linux.

I see this SDK note from July https://proton.me/blog/proton-drive-sdk-preview, which acknowledges the pre-production version of the SDK available. With a new Mac app, and support for Windows, wondering when should we expect the Linux client launch?
It's been 4+ months since any updated to this repo: https://github.com/ProtonDriveApps/sdk. Is someone working on it, and the changes not published?

As a long time user of Proton services, I've started moving away from Windows being my base operating system and have switched to using Kubuntu (Ubuntu Debian Offshoot) and have really been enjoying to fresh change. I would agree that the one thing lacking in Protons' services lineup would be an official Linux app for Proton Drive.

Given the ongoing upsurge in Linux adoption (following the W10 EOL, & recent Steam improvements making gaming on Linux more viable), Proton is missing a highly significant opportunity by not having a Linux desktop app & folder syncing. When Windows users migrate to Linux they will be immediately looking for an app to replace One Drive, and since Proton has no comparable offering available to those users they will look elsewhere, and in doing so will be exposed to other vendors ecosystems. In addition, other companies are certainly noting this situation, and are preparing products to provide this critical service to the rapidly growing new market. Not only are you ill serving your existing user base, but are are incentivising existing competitors and creating entirely new competitors. This is shamefully shortsighted.

This should be a highly prioritized. Smooth proton-drive for linux would be awesome. Browser-only access is a dealbreaker for daily use. Using Cryptomator +
other providers until this exists. -

I'm struggling to backup my folders to Proton Drive. I would love a linux client or even support for online accounts in Linux a la Google Drive.

For me, this is one of the main reasons I'm still on Windows for my work. Please give us a Proton Drive client for Linux!

I would like to synch files automatically as you can with Windows. this is a big obstacle to moving to Linux. Workarounds are a PITA
