Proton Photos
basically Google photos, but better because it's encrypted.
As in, a mobile app for backing up and organizing phone photos.
Maybe we could pay a monthly fee for access to Photos, Drive, and VPN service. I'd much rather support an independent company than Google
Hi everyone,
The Proton Drive photo backup for Android and iOS is already out.
Please see the announcements for:
iOS: https://proton.me/blog/proton-drive-photo-backup-ios
Android: https://proton.me/blog/proton-drive-photo-backup-android
We'll continue working on developing more functionalities to help you protect your most precious memories. Thanks for your continuous support!

Proton Photos app separately is needed. +1
Cross-platform: Android and iOS
With the ability to have shared albums with non-Proton users (e.g. grandparents) who can view and post photos.I continually pay more and more to Apple to host an ever growing photo album which is not cross platform, has limited photo organization features, and a lacks a convenient way to archive old photos. I have not found good competition because I don't quite trust many of them with my data.

Add the feature to sync delete pictures, i dont want to have a backup only version... i make so many screenshots and stuff, it will just get filled with junk.

I beg you, release an Android app the same time as the iOS app and don't make us wait.

Just having some basic album/tagging support and automatically backing up from my phone would be enough for me. Right now I've got to stick with Google Photos or move to Ente (which would just be yet another subscription) so it would be great to get it under the Proton banner.

One of the biggest hurdles getting friends/family away from google photos is it's ease of use and the way it acts as a gallery app despite photos only being in the cloud. I currently pay for both Proton Drive and Google Drive strictly because of the photos app.
Additionally, adding functionality where the app would allow us to post/share pictures or videos directly from a messaging app without having to download the media first would be an incredible step forward.

This is a MASSIVE must-have to help users get completely off Google. The photo backup in Proton Drive is great, but not being able to leave Google Photos because Proton doesn't offer an app that can be our default gallery, is a big issue. I'd leave Google Photos and migrate to "Proton Photos" in 5 minutes if this were available.
I wish I could vote for this 100x over because it's the final nail in the coffin for me (and probably others) using any of Google's services.

Is the Photo Backup function in Proton Drive the feature "planned" in this suggestion or is Proton planning to introduce a separate app as a true alternative to Google Photos?

Please, just buy Ente Photos. They have a ready product and it's awesome!

It would be awesome to have a FAMILY sharing and uploading, as my children's photos can be uploaded into the family plan photos but under their own individual albums for backup, similar to Amazon photos. I would rather pay for the privacy of Proton photos and ensure my children's photos are private! I would also like the capability to create albums within our overarching family plan (i.e., 2023 vacation, etc.) and have the means of adding any family member's photos that are shared to that album.

Can you just buy ente.io and implement their UI/UX? It looks so good but they are a relatively young / new company based in India with bad privacy laws.

A cool way to improve it would be to use or do a cooperation with ente.io as the frontend but storing the photos in proton drive

Thats will be INSANE if we can have a Proton Drive ( for PDF and diverses files ) and a Proton Photos, exactly like google. IDC if its seems like google i wanna privacy and will pay for it lol

If collaborated with storj.io decentralized storage at scale will help proton photos scale well.

It is supposed to be in progress already. I bet you'll get +10k new users once you have a photos app.

When is this coming to iOS?? I cannot stress enough how important it is for me (and I’m sure a lot of people) to get rid of Google Photos, or Google anything for that matter, once and for all. I’m tired of feeling like they have access to my whole life through my photos but currently this is the only way I can share anything with family overseas. Once this feature rolls out I’m bringing all my family over to Proton. Get on it, guys!!

I need family shared folders for this to work. The current “sharing” implementation is useless for families. I need actual shared folders to backup photos to.

Guys do you realize in your wishful thinking that we will never get proton apps like photos, contacts, calendar integrated within our mobiles like Google or Microsoft simply because they have exclusivity in Android API integration like Samsung with Microsoft. And that's because till now there is no other third-party company ever did this photos synchronization app with functionalities like OneDrive on Samsung phones and unfortunately probably the same will be with contacts.
