  1. Optimize local storage with files on-demand option

Some cloud storage applications have options to optimize local storage space by allowing users to optionally enable files on-demand. In this usage, the full file is stored in Proton Drive cloud with a representative file stored locally. When a user attempts to open the locally stored representative file (say opening a JPEG), the full file is downloaded just in time.

  2. Nextcloud style Photos backup configuration (Configure source & destination, year, etc)

I really like the Nextcloud photo sync feature, it allows for configuring any source folder on the phone and defining what the destination folder should be. This means that the pictures are automatically organized by source location on my backup repo.

Furthermore, it has the feature to allow for creation year drilldown, meaning it will create the Year/Month folders automatically within the destination that I chose in the repo. It would be cool to see some enhancements along those lines. Thanks for all the great work!

  3. Device folder-level access control

Now that the entire contents of my Proton Drive are accessible from all devices that I log into it with, I'm nervous that a compromise on one device could lead to a complete takeover of all my data.

I'd like to suggest a feature where folders can be given an access control list, similar to NTFS permissions on Windows, but device based. The web portal would have access to all folders always, but from the web portal, you could define which devices are allowed read/write access to specific folders.

This would allow for segregation of my data, and give comfort…

  4. When uploading a large number of files, don't upload files already present

Specifically for the android app. When you upload a number of files, some of those files may fail to upload properly. When you upload a 2nd time, it may be difficult to see which files failed on the first try. The app should see if there are files to upload and ask what to do. Always overwrite would upload everything whether to was there in the protondrive or not. Never overwrite would only upload files not already on protondrive. Only upload changed files would only upload files that weren't already there, or if already there, did not match in terms…

  5. I am wanting to know what Proton's plans are if the EU goes through with plans to make Proton scan files before encrypting them.

I use Proton because of the strong privacy laws in the countries where Proton has servers. I know that the first step the EU is discussing is making Proton scan files before saving them for child pornography. But we all know once they have that they will have you scanning files for anything they find objectionable. Will Proton move its servers to a secure country if that law passes?

Saluti

  7. Proton Maps / Navigation

Have a privacy centered navigation app for driving. Information can be stored securely but not used to sell more product or track your every movement by Google, Apple, or other options.

I know having GPS active opens up a phone to this but at least it isn’t being stored by the companies at will.

  8. Digital Legacy Platform for Proton Drive

So, having had the genealogy / Ancestry bug for about two years, I am faced with a future problem. Although hopefully at least a couple of decades away from the fateful day, I want to be able to leave a digital legacy of my family research for future generations.
At present, I have identified about 600 genetically related family members, and along with associated records, Birth, Marriage, Death, Census records, newspaper cuttings, ships manifest records and not to mention copious amounts of photos for everyone harvested from many family photobooks and photos shared with me online. I have so far…

  9. Option to remove Windows Explorer integration

The windows Explorer integration for Proton is pretty good overall - but still, I prefer to have my drive apps be as unobtrusive as possible.

Is there any chance there can be a toggle in the settings of the Proton Drive desktop app to remove Explorer integration?

  10. end to end encryption

You must also encrypt protondrive and protonmail android app user data and encryption key, with a local password(app lock) to help protect from offline, unauthorised access.

  11. Don't default move deleted files to Trash, and make this configurable and more transparent.

I only found out by accident that deleted files end up in an online-only Trash folder instead of being deleted. From a privacy and security centric company I find this quite shocking.

I would expect at the very last for this to be:

    a) Opt-in, preferably with flexible retention.
    b) Much, much more explicit, and definitely not entirely obscured by the app and only discoverable via the web interface.

I don't want to have to remember that files I deleted are still stored at online at Proton, and having to go to the web to ensure they're really gone.

  12. List all files in drive recursively, by size

It would be nice if we could list all files in our drive, and have them ordered by size so we can see the biggest files first.

  14. To Sync Proton Drive in Linux (Debian, Ubuntu)

Is it possible (or will it be possible) to mount Proton Drive as a remote drive on Linux (for example using sshfs)?

  16. ebooks library support

I would find useful a new section in ProtonDrive dedicated to eBooks, that allows not just to see all the ebooks in one place, but also to organize them in "shelfs" or "tags", and, why not, with the ability to actually read them in it

  19. Provide .msix package with appcontainer enabled

Appcontainer (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/msix/msix-container) makes app sandbox possible on Windows. Pls use .msix with it rather than traditional win32 apps.

  20. Expand/collapse folders in list view

Currently you can only expand the folders from the sidebar navigation like with Proton Mail. While this works for Protonmail, for a filesystem like Proton Drive it makes navigating a lot simpler and intuitive when you can just do this from the main list view and reserve the sidebar for pinned folders and files.
