1. Bug report to Proton Support: A shared Proton Doc with view-only permissions displays a blank page

   There's a bug in Proton Docs: sharing a Proton Doc with view-only permissions between Proton IDs (direct email invitation, NOT via public link) shows a blank page to the recipient. The only way to view the document is to open its history. This affects both free and paid Proton accounts equally.

   Additional Details:

   Browsers tested: Firefox, Vivaldi, Edge, Chrome, Mulvard — same blank page result in all
   Accounts tested: Multiple Proton accounts (3+ different sender and recipient accounts) — consistent issue
   Reproduction steps: Switching sharing permissions from Editor to Viewer in all instances produces the same result
   Mobile (Android): Same blank page issue occurs on mobile
   Critical finding: On mobile, when opening File Details for a document shared with view-only permissions, it still displays 'Permission: Editor' instead of 'Permission: Viewer' — suggesting the permission change may not be properly applied or recorded

   Workaround: Opening the document history allows viewing the content despite the blank page issue.

2. Allow renaming files within MS Word

   Something changed in the background and I'm no longer able to rename a file from inside MS Word for files that are stored locally (or online) on my Proton Drive. There is something wrong with permission structures between Microsoft and Proton Drive.

3. Proton Drive’s session management - Persistent login session

   Hi Proton Team and Community,

   I would like to raise a security-related suggestion regarding Proton Drive’s session management.

   Currently, Proton Drive maintains a persistent login session, which is convenient from a usability standpoint. However, in certain scenarios, especially when dealing with sensitive or confidential documents, this behavior can pose a security risk.

   Unlike tools such as Cryptomator, which require authentication (e.g., PIN or password) every time the application is accessed, Proton Drive does not currently offer an option for an additional local authentication layer or automatic lock on device access.

   You guys already do this with proton pass.

   Suggestion:
   It would be highly valuable to have an optional feature such as:

   A local PIN or password lock when opening Proton Drive
   An auto-lock after inactivity (configurable timeout)
   A requirement to re-authenticate on device unlock or app reopen

   This would significantly enhance security, particularly for:

   Shared or occasionally accessed devices
   Work environments handling sensitive data
   Users who prioritize stricter session control over convenience

   Importantly, this should be an optional setting, allowing users to choose between convenience and stricter access control.

   I believe this feature would align well with Proton’s strong privacy and security positioning.

4. Upload more than one file at a time

   Several files (3–5) should be uploaded at the same time.
   If there is a very large file among them, it would be helpful to upload smaller files in parallel.

5. PDF annotation and SPen compatibility for Samsung tablets

   PDF annotation is possible via Windows but not on my Samsung tablet. SPen compatibility and Android functionality would allow Proton Drive to exist across ecosystems more effectively.

6. Private Secure Podcast Hosting by Proton using FOSS Castopod

   I realize that someone could self-host their podcast (using free hosting software from Castopod) and distribute their podcast that way, but most Netizens are not going to go that route. I propose a podcast hosting solution that is based in a more privacy-friendly country like Switzerland.

   If Proton hosted Castopod software on their servers, that would create a private, podcast hosting option that could also be spun-up quite easily. Proton could also limit its support to the most basic set-up issues, with users accepting terms upfront that only initial configuration support will be provided by Proton while also clarifying that Proton's role is to provide private and secure hosting for the Castopod software.

8. Proton Photos Mega Thread (all my suggestions for proton photos)

   Proton photos is lacking a lot compared to iCloud/Google photos, and even Privacy-first alternatives like Ente. A ppor photos experience is a deal breaker for many. Heres my full list of suggestions:

   • Standalone Dedicated App → The current "Drive" interface is too slow and clunky for media; a native gallery experience is required for smooth browsing and organisation and other features im about to suggest.
   • On-Device AI Person Recognition → Proton should group photos by faces without sending biometric data to the cloud like how Ente does.
   • On-Device AI Object & Scene Search → Enables natural language search ("Beach," "Dog," "Cake") locally, solving the lack of discoverability in large libraries like how Ente does.
   • Photo Map → List all photos in a map if the user has photo location in metadata similar to how Apple Photos does.
   • Low-res cache → Store compressed thumbnails for the entire library on device so users can scroll instantly and search without internet, fixing the "slow loading" issue.
   • Automatic Duplicate Removal → Duplicate photo removal tool
   • Add photos to the proton drive desktop apps → For example on mac, proton drive can sync drive folders. it should also be able to sync photos to desktop helping with better export and import
   • Takeout Tool → Includes better importing and exporting (exporting especially). Its really upsetting theres no easy way to export proton photos library easily.

9. In iOS Proton Drive app, allow to upload more thant 10 photos at once

   I use the feature professionnally a lot, always for more than 10 photos, and every time have to repeat the operation multiple times so I can upload everything that I need to. This limitation is extremely frustrating.

10. Improve the speed of syncing.

    The speed of syncing between devices must improve. I can take some photos and its not synced to my computer 2 hrs later. It is rather annoying when I want to work with those photos on my computer and I have to wait a long time before i can access the photos on my computer. I use wifi and also allowing sync with mobile data. The photo tagging should also be optional. I have organized my photos and dont want anything added neither to folders or photos. I dont want googles annoying organizing template. I use android, linux and windows.

11. Develop ZimaOS Integration

    In ZimaOS there is currently only the option to use OneDrive, Dropbox and Google for backup storage, but most users of this OS are highly privacy conscious and are likely the type of user interested in Proton Drive. Could you help add this feature so there is an available option?

14. Add RTL support for Proton Sheets and Proton Docs

    Proton Sheets and Docs currently only support Left-to-Right languages.
    RTL languages cannot be properly used.
    Some examples of what this means:
    - RTL Spreadsheet orientation (Column "A") is on the right side of the screen)
    - RTL paragraph attributes for text for text to be properly aligned and displayed with mixed RTL and LTR characters (e.g. language with numbers / English).
    - Printing orientation of gutter location and pages order.
    - RTL Tables objects orientation
    - BiDi (Bi-directionality) support when editing mixed text
    - Formulas-aware RTL (e.g. =LEFT() takes the beginning of a string, regardless if it is first or last chars in the language).

15. Photo backup from camera - allow choice of destination (to drive or photos)

    Allow choice of destination (either a Proton Drive folder of choice OR Proton Photos) for the phone camera photo backup feature.

    It currently only allows a sync to the Proton Photos feature, which is

    A) very limited (see all the comments in the community).

    B) doesn’t allow management of photos across the "drive" and “photos" feature of proton.

    C) This also makes sorting and archiving photos collated from different sources and placed into both drive and photos in the Proton architecture, VERY difficult.

    In addition, allow drag and drop sorting between Proton drive and Proton photos. Even though this may be very difficult due to different systems, with today’s AI coding abilities, it should be doable.

16. Ability to browse My Files added to Proton Drive in Proton Drive PC app

    After downloading the Proton Drive desktop app I have the ability to choose there which folders do I want to sync but to access My Files added to Proton Drive I have to go to File Explorer. I would love to have it in one place and not only have the ability to sync files from my PC through the Proton Drive desktop app but also to have there all My Files added to Proton Drive.

18. Column view for folders

    Problem: it is currently quite slow to explore folder structures with a lot of nested folders (this typically happens in professional structures).

    I would love to see a "column view" that would allow me to quickly navigate deep folder structures using my keyboard (arrows). It would be wonderful to pre-load the tree of folders / files to skip making a call to the API every time I browse a new folder

20. Allow sharing with Proton email aliases

    Currently in Proton Drive, when I try to share a file with someone who is using a Proton alias — for example, foo.bar681@passinbox.com — I get an error message:

    "Inviting someone with a Proton or SimpleLogin domain is not permitted."

    Why this restriction? Why, in order to receive an invitation to share a Drive file, must we expose our primary email address?
