Lumo - Export Full Chat
In an effort to keep a clean history in Lumo, it would be nice to be able to export full chats instead of having to copy and paste individual responses. This would be similar to duck.ai's export feature.

I believe the current policy of outright deletion of chats after 7 days in the free version runs counter to the user's expectations, and is therefore rather user-hostile.
If it'd make sense technically, imho the alternative more in line with users' expectations would be for chats beyond 7 days to remain stored *only client side*, and with that distinction being marked clearly. So Lumo+ would be something akin to a subscription service for sync / backup of those chats.
In any case, easy full-text export, per chat or in bulk, would distinguish Proton from the competition.
Not providing this feature is disrespectful to the user - the low standards set by the competition are no excuse for Proton to act the same way. -

My experience is that print to PDF doesn't work: I only get a blank page. I have assumed this is related to security issues. (Windows 11, Vivaldi Browser with Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin). My best workaround is either to use the copy to clipboard icon at the end of each reply or manually select the entire chat, and pasting into LibreOffice Writer. LO seems to retain much better formatting than Word.
YMMV

Lumo chat history is limited to 7 days unless on paid lumo plus and have lost access to some important chats.
I asked lumo
"I want to copy this entire chat including all my questions and all your answers. In otherwords I want to export this complete chat is this possible".Lumo gave me this workaround
Windows 11
Option 1: Print to PDF (Easiest & Cleanest)
This will preserve the formatting and create a clean PDF document of our entire discussion.Open your browser where this chat is loaded (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.).
Press Ctrl + P (or go to Menu > Print).
In the "Destination" or "Printer" dropdown, select "Save as PDF".
Adjust Settings:
Set Layout to "Portrait".
Under "More settings", ensure "Background graphics" is checked (this keeps colours/headers visible).
Click "Save" and choose where to store the file (e.g., Lumo_Chat_Export_Proton_Archive_Strategy.pdf).Option 2: Copy & Paste Full Text
If you want it in an editable format (Word, Google Docs):Scroll to the very top of the chat.
Click once to focus in the chat area.
Hold Shift and click at the bottom of the last message to highlight everything (or press Ctrl + A if it selects only the current input box).
Note: If Ctrl + A only highlights the input field, try clicking the first character of the chat, scroll down, hold Shift, and click the last character.
Press Ctrl + C to copy.
Open Microsoft Word or Notepad.
Press Ctrl + V to paste.
Save the file (e.g., Client_Archive_Discussion.docx).Option 3: Browser Extension (For Future Chats)
If you plan to do this regularly, consider installing a Chrome/Edge extension like:"Save Page WE" – Saves complete pages as HTML/PDF.
"Full Page Screen Capture" – Takes a scrolling screenshot of the entire chat.Option 4: Check Lumo Settings
Some versions of AI chat interfaces have a built-in export feature:Look for Settings (gear icon) in the sidebar.
Check for "Export Chat", "Download History", or "Privacy" options.
If you find it, it may allow you to download JSON or Markdown files of your conversations.MACOS Option
Option 1: Print to PDF (Easiest & Cleanest)
This preserves all formatting and creates a readable PDF document.Click anywhere inside the chat window to focus it.
Press Cmd + P to open the Print dialog.
In the "Destination" dropdown at the bottom, click "Save as PDF".
Optional Settings:
Click "Show Details" if you don't see the PDF button immediately.
Check "Background Graphics" under Options to keep colours intact.
Name your file (e.g., Lumo_Chat_Export_Proton_Archive.pdf) and choose where to save it (Desktop or Documents).
Click "Save".Option 2: Copy & Paste into a Document
If you want it editable (for Word, Pages, or Notes):Scroll to the very top of the chat.
Click the first character of the conversation.
Scroll down to the last message.
Hold Shift and click the end of the last message. This should highlight everything in between.
Alternative: Try Cmd + A — if that only selects the text input box, try clicking the beginning of the chat history, then holding Shift and scrolling/clicking the end manually.
Press Cmd + C to copy.
Open Pages, Microsoft Word, or TextEdit.
Press Cmd + V to paste.
Save the file.Option 3: Check for Built-in Export (Lumo Settings)
Some AI interfaces have an export feature:Look for a Settings/Gear icon ⚙️ in the sidebar.
Check for options like "Export Chat", "Download Data", or "Privacy".
If available, select this conversation and download as JSON, Markdown, or PDF.Option 4: Screenshot Scrolling Capture (Less Ideal)
Open Preview on Mac.
Go to File > Import from iPhone/iPad (if connected), OR use a third-party app like CleanShot X or Snip & Sketch.
Note: This is less practical for long chats since it creates image files rather than searchable text.✅ Recommended for Your Business Records
For legal/business purposes, I recommend Option 1 (Print to PDF) because:It's searchable (you can Ctrl+F for "Visionary", "AUD", etc.)
It looks professional and dated
It's easy to attach to emails or store in client files📋 Naming Convention Suggestion

An addition to my initial comment way back in time: I have found that although the 'copy to clipboard' feature gives a mess when pasted into MS Word, when pasted into a LibreOffice Writer document it comes up mostly clean and well formatted. I still want a better export option though, because copy, paste, verify format, add my prompt ... that all takes time and distracts from workflow. So please, a more sophisticated export feature and .ODT format is a good choice.

Besides saving us time, it makes the product more competitive -- Perplexity has had this since the beginning. Output format should be .ODT file format so we can annotate it later for ourselves, so NOT PDF

This is SO needed - even a dealbreaker for me if it is never implemented! It would correct the wrong that Proton otherwise are one of the greats in fighting - the battle against proprietary knowledge and withholding of people's own data...!

For conversations, which I would like to save for later, the copy to clipboard button is by far insufficient as it saves only ugly formatted text. Also print to pdf via the browser does not work well or not at all for longer conversations. My current workaround is to ask Lumo to again output the entire conversation in raw markdown syntax which can then be copied via clipboard as a *.md file and then importing this file in a markdown editor / viewer and after that export as pdf.
This approach is extremely tedious to do manually every time but could be easily automated as Lumo already uses markdown. So it should be quite easy to provide this functionality on the Lumo page directly -

When you implement this feature, make sure it retains the original page formatting, fonts, and spacing, and enable "select all" to capture the entire conversation (not just the visible text onscreen), in a pdf file.

This is almost a crippling bug. If I've spent many hours working with an AI, it's pretty pointless if I can't export the results to use anywhere else The copy-and-paste method is absurdly annoying and time consuming. This is one if my very biggest problems with AI. I can understand security concerns with accessing local stirage on my device, but at a MINIMUM let me export full chat logs to my Proton Drive. There needs to be a button for this. Not having it is just seriously fdmb

LUMO (GUEST AND FREE AND PAID VERSION) MUST HAVE BUTTON FOR EXPORT A QUESTION AND THE ANSWER AND EVEN THE FULL CHAT TO PDF AND DOC AND MARKDOWN. consensus.app HAS THIS FEATURE ALREADY AND VERY SUCCEFULLY. THIS WOULD VERY USEFULL (AND MAYBE CHATGPT AND OTHER MORE POPULAR THAN LUMO LLMS WOULD ADOPT IT). OBIOUSLY LUMO HAVING IT BEFORE THEM WOULD BE A GREAT ADVANTAGE.

At least to Proton Drive, even better export to custom target the user chooses (pdf, md, docx, odt etc). Batch export would be even nicer.

Hi Proton Team,
I’m currently testing the Lumo + version and I’d love to have a convenient way to share the conversations I generate with my colleagues. Could you please consider adding a “Share Chat” button to Lumo + that would allow users to export a chat session directly to Proton Drive?
Suggested workflow:
Export Options – After clicking “Share Chat,” the user can choose the desired file format (DOCX, TXT, or PDF).
Folder Selection – In the next step, the user selects a destination folder within the Proton Drive app (e.g., a shared project folder).
Automatic Upload – The exported file is then uploaded to the chosen location, making it easy for teammates to access and collaborate on the content.
This feature would greatly improve productivity by letting us quickly disseminate insights, drafts, or any generated material across our teams without leaving the Lumo interface.Thank you for considering this suggestion!
Best regards,

I too want to be able to store a full chat history directly into my proton drive. I would like the options of
- txt
- md
- proton doc (can't believe I can't even upload a proton doc file. I'm sure there must be a reason, but as a user it is baffling.)
- json
- pdf -

This is a missing feature keeping me from subscribing! Like to save important conversations locally that have information that can be used in the future. Even duck.ai basic exporting abilities is vastly more useful than the "exporting/copying" schemes suggested by Lumo itself! Many good suggestions of solutions in this thread, why not start with basic print function that works!

My suggestion would be that chats should be saved the Drive as json files, along with any uploaded file, to maintain the complete record. (similar to how LM Studio stores things locally)

It would also be, for the purpose of choices and regarding to where to store your full export, nice to be able to choose between Local machine or directly store to Proton Drive (behind the scenes directly from the web browser if available to user).
For those who find it hard to use markdown (personally I love it) an aditional option for exporting to open formats could also be an idea, like odf, odt etc (https://www.documentfoundation.org/), and/or docx.

Currently, Claude, ChatGPT, and Le Chat all provide an option to generate an archive containing all conversations.
I have developed the free and open-source Nexus AI Chat Importer plugin for Obsidian, which allows users to import their AI conversations into Obsidian. This enables users to build a personal knowledge base where conversations become searchable across their entire vault, can be linked with other notes and ideas, and remain accessible offline without depending on cloud platforms. The plugin currently supports Claude and ChatGPT. The next release will integrate Le Chat, and hopefully Lumo as well, if the export feature is added.
Adding this export capability would be critical for Proton Lumo to remain competitive. Privacy-conscious users who choose Proton specifically value data ownership and portability.
Without the ability to export and archive their conversations, Lumo falls behind competitors in a fundamental feature that aligns perfectly with Proton's core values of user control and data sovereignty. This feature would reinforce Proton's position as the privacy-first alternative while ensuring users can leverage their AI interactions as long-term knowledge assets.
