Desktop bridge for free users.
I am so disappointed that the new 'Protonmail Bridge' is only for paid accounts. I love Protonmail for the fact that it is secure and free. If they continue to leave free users out of these great new features; I may not continue to use Protonmail!

Please enable ProtonMail Bridge for free or for an one time payment.
I would like to add it to my OS Mail application. It would simplify my Email usage and overview on my accounts a lot.

I want to use Proton free version by adding a pop account to Thunderbird. I already do that with AOL/Verizon and Gmail.

ProtonMail bridge should be available for free users. I don't think there's anything in IMAP/SMTP such that it should be priced upon. There are many, many free users, more than paid users in protonmail. So, the bridge should be available for free users. Anyways, people donate to ProtonMail. Isn't it enough? And also it should be made available for every OS (Windows, Mac and Linux). There are people who would like to use ProtonMail bridge in Parrot OS (or something similar like Kali Linux [for privacy]). But, it's not possible just because it's available only for paid users. Everybody can't afford a paid plan! If the ProtonMail team still wants the ProtonMail bridge to be available only for paid users, please explain me why.

I'd pay for proton mail if it were cheaper, like $24/year for the base paid account, but $48/year is a bit much for me as a working class person

Just a basic application for storing emails and ability to lock the application is enough.
But, privacy should be maintained even though it's free

Yes, tutanota offers desktop application for free users while ProtonMail doesn't.

Whenever I try to log into the protonmail bridge, I get the message 'You must have a paid account to access this feature' Which means the free service is totally unusable for any Mac user. Please change this.

If I can't use Thunderbird with my free protonmail account, I can't use your product. Surely you have an alternative business model to generate revenue for your company without placing the burden of paying to use a free product with a free product on the end user.

Honestly, I'd prefer paying a small amount and keeping my privacy rather than getting loads of stuff for free and toss privacy out the window.
For people looking forward to using the features, go ahead with the paid plan when the project/business you run via PM starts generating revenue.

Totally agree. Or at least scale down the pricing to a more affordable level.

Another Request: IMAP/SMTP
Please include IMAP/SMTP with a free account... without IMAP/SMTP, I cannot effectively test or use protonmail (PM) as my regular email provider...I know you include IMAP/SMTP in paid accounts to encourage users to upgrade to a paid account. However, your approach has the opposite effect -- it discourages users from using PM at all... perhaps, this is you goal -- you do not want free users...
Hint: PM's Enlightened self-interest: Paid users come out of free account users, but they have to be using the free account enough to integrate PM into their daily routines and practices... PM has created a barrier to such integrated use of a free account -- which may be your desire: to encourage no use of a free account. Think again: include IMAP/SMTP with a free account.

I support. You can make the option of a one-time purchase of imap / smtp. Paid once and use for life. That would be convenient for everyone.

If you're using a free account, why would they care if you threaten to discontinue use of Protonmail? That just saves them money.
It's sad to see people posting all of these "Give us X for free!" threads. This is not Google -- if they can't mine your data for money, they have to charge money. It's not fair to have paid accounts fund a free ride for everyone else. Not everyone with a paid account is rich..

This should be free, if you care about people privacy and not only your paying customers privacy.
I'm stuck with google mail because i can't get notifications on my PC using Proton Mail.
