  1. Expert mode for security/recovery

I love Proton and rely on it for email and password management. This makes my Proton account's security paramount, since this is the gateway to everything else now. That is why I have two security keys that protect access to this critically important account with unfishable 2FA. My password is kept offline, and is backed-up in various ways.

Proton, however, seems to work against my efforts sometimes. I'm obligated to also use an authenticator app to use my security keys. Without asking, I'm suddenly opted-in to having recovery files downloaded to my trusted devices. Allow password reset from settings is…

  4. default 2fa setting

Allow the user to set the default 2fa, with the effect that the default 2FA is displayed first. I use 1Password password manager. For Proton, I use both a security key and an authenticator. Proton insists on prompting for a security key and showing authenticator as an alternative. I almost never use the security key; it is my backup. But this behavior by Proton, prompting for the security key, prevents my password manager from getting me logged all of the way in automatically.

I currently have to click the authenticator tab. When I do that, my password manager takes over…

  5. Reactivate an account that had been deactivated due to inactivity

I signed up for ProtonMail a while ago, but I never got around to using it. Now I want to use that email address for a subscription account. How can I reactivate it?

  6. Balancing delete account now vs have time to review the destructive action

There are tradeoffs between implement an action immediately compared to having time to review the action for security purposes.

    For example, deleting an account.

Some people may want to delete the account immediately to remove any trace.

Others may want to have some notice before the account is permanently deleted to prevent any malicious account deletion requests.

Sending a notice about account deletion to recovery contacts and allowing some time to reverse or recover the account is appreciated. This will help protect against malicious account deletion and protect against mis-understandings.

Need to have the ability to view multiple Proton accounts (e.g. Personal + Business) within all apps - - not drop down menu switch, but view multiple accounts all at the same time. Same for Drive, Calendar, Pass, etc. Critical.

  10. signed-in reset

Update the IOS ProtonMail App to include the signed-in reset option, that's available on the Android and Web apps. This will allow full recovery for a authenticated user who has access to their ProtonMail App, but has forgotten/lost their password and hasn't setup any recovery methods. Particularly useful for new inexperienced users. This will also help recovery of data from the same account, held in other Proton Apps, e.g. Drive, Pass, etc.

  12. Log in to Proton Account with FIDO2 / WebAuthn ( Passkeys / Passwordless )

With the rise in account takeover, password breaches, and the complexity of managing hundreds if not thousands of account credentials and their MFA, a better solution is needed that simplifies and offer bullet-proof protection against phishing and account takeover attacks.

Many services like 1Password, Yubico/Yubikey, and Apple offer the ability to generate and securely store passkeys that can then be used to authenticate to services that support WebAuthn/FIDO2. I strongly recommend that ProtonMail, ProtonVPN, ProtonDrive, ProtonCalendar, etc. to support passwordless/passkeys in the near future to stay on top of security and ensure that its customers are properly protecting their accounts.

  13. Unlicenced Admin Account

Best practice is to have a separated dedicated unlicensed Admin account.
I do not like that my regular account also has Admin access, and would like to setup a separate account for this, however I would have to pay for an additional license.

  15. Forgotten password options vulnerability

I clicked the "forgot password" option on the sign in page to test. After entering my email, it immediately prompted for a 12 word phrase.

Immediately prompting for the phrase gives an attacker performing reconnaissance valuable information.

All 3 options should be selectable regardless of which have been configured. This allows security through obfuscation. As the screenshots in this link show https://proton.me/support/reset-password

This is for a situation where someone who knows my alternate email or phone number and tries to use them. If I haven't enabled them as options, it would be also good to then get a notification about…

  17. Add 3 additional custom domains for EACH family member on family plan

The Family Plan looks like it will become a good option for many in the future, especially once Pass Vault sharing is integrated.

However, the big glaring omission is that the custom domains do not go up for family plans.

Each of my family has their own unique domain, and I want to be able to capture that so they can retain their own unique email domains...

Each member should get an additional 3 custom domains options just like the primary account.

All of the other metrics go up with a family plan except for the custom domains, so this…

  18. Unlimited accounts for catch-all email addresses

I am a premium paying member of proton mail who uses a catch-all email domain.

I use many prefixes such as:
    moving@address.com
    apartment@address.com
    work@address.com
    personal@address.com
    name@address.com
    etc.

In order to send email from these addresses, I must have accounts for them. This is very annoying as I have to repeatedly create and delete these accounts in order to stay under the 15 account limit.

On my own domain, I should have unlimited addresses.

This would very helpful and would solve one of my biggest annoyances with proton.

I want an advanced version of the current "Security Logs".
This is different from the "Enable advanced logs" option.

What I want to see in this log is (by column order):

    • UTC/My location based time and date that follows the ISO 8601 format
    • IP Address (Also an indication of if the IP is home/VPN/ProtonVPN/Tor/Proxy, etc.)
    • Country/City name
    • App Name (With detailed info. Web version should specify the device OS and browser type. Android and iOS version should also specify the version and etc.)
    • App Version
    • A detailed version of the event
    • Filter result

This log system should also have features…

  20. loggin account

Hey, when I'm at work, I prefer not to enter my password and username every time I log in, and I also don't want the browsers to remember that information. Since my company has control over my computer, it would be really convenient for everyone, including myself, to have a QR code login feature on the web that can be scanned from a phone app, similar to what Binance offers. It's a simple and more secure method. I hope this feature becomes available soon! Goodbye.
