2. to be able to download the archive folder files onto external storage or a desktop folder

   I would like to be able to download the entire contents of a location eg "Archive" onto a desktop folder on my computer, that way I can put it on external drive and free up space and crowding in my email account

3. Proton Backup for Android/ios

   It would be awesome to be able to not use google backup, to backup an android device. Proton backup could replace it, and it would be one step further to not rely on google having our android data to scan/etc...

5. Fix Standard Notes quirks

   Standard Notes keeps accumulating more and more unaddressed quirks:

7. Secure native integration of Proton services together and with external services (granular consent & scoped tokens)

   Many privacy‑focused users including myself run several Proton services alongside automation platforms such as Make and Home Assistant. Because Proton does not yet expose a secure, granular API, we have to resort to work‑arounds:

   Forward selected Proton Mail messages to a Gmail account.
   Let Make read that Gmail inbox, filter the messages, and then push the extracted data into Google Calendar or other third‑party services.

   As a result, Google (or any other intermediary) ends up with full visibility of the forwarded emails, and Make gains access to the entire mailbox, not just the specific messages we intended to share.
   These steps defeat the purpose of using Proton in the first place, because they expose private communications to external providers and increase the overall attack surface.
   Manually copy‑paste invoices or payment confirmations from Mail into Drive.
   Keep an old Google Mail/Calendar account just to feed third‑party tools.
   Build fragile work‑arounds (CSV exports, external webhooks, temporary storage) that increase the attack surface.
   What we need is a native, consent‑driven integration API inside Proton that provides:

   Conditional access rules, filter on sender/subject/body and grant explicit permission (e.g., “Allow Make to pull invoices from billing@myshop.com”).
   Secure webhooks – signed URLs that third‑party platforms can call to create or modify Proton objects (mail, file, calendar event).
   Scoped, fine‑grained tokens – read‑only, write‑only, or read‑write access limited to a single mailbox or a single Drive sub‑folder, with a dedicated folder ID.

   Explicit activation/deactivation – the integration does nothing until the user flips it on in the Proton dashboard; it can be turned off at any time, even if Proton flags the inter‑dependency as “risky”.
   Audit log – full history of API calls shown in the dashboard, with one‑click revocation of any token.
   Native Lumo integration – allow Lumo to query Mail and Drive using the same scoped tokens, so it can answer contextual questions like “What’s the coverage limit of my insurance?” by pulling the relevant contract from Drive and summarising the paragraph.
   Why this matters

   User‑controlled consent – every connection requires explicit opt‑in and targets only the data that is truly needed.
   Reduced attack surface – eliminates the need for external CSV files, public webhooks, or ad‑hoc scripts that break end‑to‑end encryption.
   Boosts Proton’s appeal – privacy‑first home‑automation fans (Home Assistant, Make, n8n) would adopt Proton far more readily if a secure bridge existed.
   Prevents unsafe work‑arounds – even if Proton does not officially recommend such cross‑service links, people will still build fragile hacks; an official, audited solution dramatically lowers real‑world risk.
   Potential impact

   Makes Proton a complete, privacy‑preserving platform for everyday automation.
   Attracts niche communities (home‑automation, low‑code workflow builders) that currently stay on less‑private stacks.
   Gives Lumo a powerful data‑source for contextual Q&A, increasing its usefulness.

   I would like to suggest a Proton Phone that runs either on a dedicated ProtonOS or a Proton-customized Android. This phone would feature a system-wide AI assistant like LUMO and have all Proton services—Mail, VPN, Calendar, Drive, Proton Pass, and more—fully integrated from the start.

   By replacing default services like Google with Proton equivalents (e.g., Proton Pass for passwords), users would have full privacy across the entire device and enhanced security options. Such a phone would provide a seamless, secure, and privacy-focused experience, making it much easier to manage subscriptions and Proton services.

   This could represent a major step forward in Proton’s mission to make the internet safe again, as the smartphone is the primary endpoint through which users access the internet. By securing the device itself, Proton could offer a truly protected ecosystem and set a new standard for privacy-focused mobile technology.

10. More Privacy and Security with emails

    I think that there is way Proton could be the best encrypted and private platform (never mind that any email sent from a non non-Proton account will not be E2EE and can still be read by third parts because it is stored on non-Proton servers). When a Proton user receives a non-E2EE email, say from a Gmail user, Proton must decrypt that email and have access to it in primary memory in plaintext. If Proton's servers are compromised and suffer from zombie memory attacks (even a trusted execution environment (TEE) running cubes OS would not be safe from this kind of attack only turning off all CPU software optimizations on either AMD or Intel CPU will remove this possibility) then an attacker could gain access to user's emails. Another issue could be that Proton could be compelled to turn over any plaintext emails it can read in the future. To prevent this Proton should never decrypt the non-E2EE emails. Instead take the private key for decrypting the non-E2EE email and encrypt it alongside the non-E2EE email message with the Proton user's public key. Then when the user wants the read that email they decrypt them email with their private key (on device of course) then now the Proton user's device now has the private key to the message and the encrypted message itself. Then the user's device has to decrypt the message and now the user can read the message without Proton ever seeing a user's plaintext message. Also please give users the choice to encrypt things like subject lines and date and time for calenders. Then if they user chooses to have these options encrypted then the only possible way for users to search for their emails will be on device when the device has been decrypted. Or the user's calendar can remain decrypted on their device but always be E2EE on the server. This way users can still sync with the server and their devices can still see all the same calendar events and users can still get notifications bc it's on device. And users love having choices especially the ones who love privacy.

11. Temporary light mode in protonmail mobile app

    Hi,
    I would like to be able when reading an email on the mobile app, to switch to a temporary light mode. This is useful and even mandatory on certain barcode/QR-code reader that cannot operate when in dark mode. IE: getting or returning a parcel.

15. Beef up passkeys by requiring hardware security key or 2fa code authentication

    I am concerned with how easy it is to activate passkeys with Proton Pass. Let's say that someone's child or sibling were using their computer and snooped at their account, either on purpose or on accident. If that account doesn't have a passkey they would have to at least click through to autofill the username/password boxes, which at that point their conscious would tell them this is wrong and they might turn back (we can hope!). But if that account uses a passkey, it is as easy as clicking the pop-up and it is easier for someone to be tempted to just open the account. Since passkeys are so easy to use, it is only one step removed from basically being being logged in everywhere all the time so long as the Proton account is signed in.

    So rather than a passcode requirement at timed intervals, it would be nice if there was an option to require hardware key authentication or 2fa code for every single time a passkey is used, regardless of if the Proton user has timed pin-code unlock turned on or not. The feature could be toggled just for passkeys or for autofill in general, which would also be nice and could essentially lock Proton Pass to your hardware key even if you were already signed in on two devices in different locations (like if your younger brother guessed your PIN code for your laptop while you were away and snooped through your browser with Pass signed in and passcode turned off)

16. Proton Mail - Option to permanently collapse mail folders

    I would love to be able to tick a box in the settings to permanently collapse all of my mail folders on login.

    Currently, upon logging in, all folders are fully expanded, but I find it easier to use them collapsed. This is because I have many different folders, and finding the exact one is easier based on the root folder rather than having to look through all the subfolders within the different categories of root folders.

18. Eliminate the tedium in the usage of Proton products

    Perhaps establish some metrics for tedium of use and ways to guage Proton products against those metrics. This is not a simple task, but hardly impossible to do, and would greatly benefit users and Proton. Example areas of "tedium": Unsharing multiple files at via selection or all in Proton Drive is not possible; Unsharing a single file is a multiple step procedure; Proton Authenticator passcodes are not automatically recognized by Proton products; Interaction between Proton products is less than stellar; Behaviors commonly expected in software are glaringly absent across Proton products.

20. Make Duo/Family true shared plans

    The idea is simple – allow for shared email addresses within Duo/Family plans, which anyone in the family group can access. Allow for true shared documents/folders in Drive, that anyone who they are shared with has equal access – at the moment, shared folders cannot be accessed through Finder (macOS), nor made available offline. To attach a file from a shared folder, the sharee must first download it from the web app, which makes a mockery of using cloud storage in the first place.

    It seems that Duo/Family is really just a pricing tool, not a shared family group in any meaningful way.
