  2. Make all apps able to update themselves independently of app stores

Similar to what Signal does, it would be great to be able to install apps from the proton website, then update them from the app itself, without having to use the app store. This would reduce dependencies on App Stores that are run in (and potentially influenced by) authoritarian governments. Not having to trust Google Play or the Apple iStore (or whatever it's called) would be wonderful for those of us living under newly authoritarian governments, or anyone outside that country using those app stores.

  5. New Feature/Product Proposal: Building Proton Search — A Privacy-First Web Engine to Empower Lumo and the Proton Ecosystem

As Proton continues shaping a secure, user-controlled internet, the next logical evolution is clear: the creation of a dedicated Proton Search engine — a completely new, privacy-first service designed to power both Lumo, Proton’s AI assistant, and the broader Proton ecosystem.

Proton Search does not yet exist, but its time has come. In an era where mainstream search engines track, profile, and monetize every query, users increasingly demand a trustworthy alternative — one built not for advertisers, but for people. Proton, with its proven record in encrypted communication and secure storage, is uniquely positioned to redefine how private web search…

  6. Subject: Feature proposal – “Proton Phone” built on Pixel 7

    Hi Proton Team,

I’m a long‑time Proton user and recently explored turning a Pixel 7 into a dedicated “Proton phone” that makes Proton Mail, VPN, Drive, Pass, and Calendar the native, system‑level experience.

    Key points of the concept:
    - Hardened OS base (GrapheneOS) with verified boot and Titan M security.
    - Proton apps installed as system apps for privileged permissions.
    - Auto‑connect Proton VPN with kill‑switch, default mail/calendar handlers, and a unified “Proton Settings” UI.
    - Optional Magisk module for seamless OTA updates of Proton apps.
    - Full‑device encryption, firewall rules, and minimal bloatware.

    I’ve drafted a step‑by‑step implementation plan and would…

  7. Secure native integration of Proton services together and with external services (granular consent & scoped tokens)

Many privacy‑focused users including myself run several Proton services alongside automation platforms such as Make and Home Assistant. Because Proton does not yet expose a secure, granular API, we have to resort to work‑arounds:

Forward selected Proton Mail messages to a Gmail account.
Let Make read that Gmail inbox, filter the messages, and then push the extracted data into Google Calendar or other third‑party services.

As a result, Google (or any other intermediary) ends up with full visibility of the forwarded emails, and Make gains access to the entire mailbox, not just the specific messages we intended to share.
    These steps defeat the…

  8. Better signatures

The current signature feature in Proton Mail is insufficient for business applications.

In addition to long requested features such as support for multiple signatures, or being able to switch between HTML and Plain signatures on different platforms, other features such as, but not limited to, the following would make Proton Mail a realistic option for larger businesses:

    • reply signature option (to avoid spamming a big signature block for every single reply in a thread),
    • authenticating signatures (signatures with some kind of validation token; unclear on how to implement),
    • a signature catalogue (browse multiple signatures and set for which address they…

Physical FIFO key like Yubi key for Authenticator App. I currently do use the Yubi Key Authenticator app but would switch to Proton if it used a physical key.

  10. Need a feature to manually pick "icons" for our codes in the new standalone Authenticator app

As the title suggests. The app is new and lacks this basic feature. When I create an 2FA secret, it just selects the service icons itself and I can't manually change the icons to my liking. Please add a way for us to change it.

Also the Authenticator app seems to lacks many services icons please add them.

  11. CLI Apps for integrations / automations

One big drawback of using proton instead of a big tech alternative (or nextcloud) is the lack of integration with third party services for automation or productivity.

I get that being E2E, it is complicated to make such integration through webhooks. But having CLI apps as a bridge could help (just like the App for proton mail bridge, but for all the proton services (at least mail, drive, docs, calendar).

It should be easier to integrate proton into any workflow with automation platform like n8n etc...

  12. Virtualization like QubesOS DVMs--to protect the masses from the impending AI Spear-Phishing Swarms (Heiding et al., 2025).

Recent research shows with a little development, modern LLMs can be used to fully automate spear-phishing campaigns-- from reconnaissance to email and evaluation.

These atracks work as well as human hacking experts with 54% success.

This also makes it way more profitable.

Average non-QubesOS users need virtualization like disposable VMs in QubesOS.

  13. Add Support for Storing and Using Digital Certificates in Proton Pass

Currently, Proton Pass allows storing credentials, notes, and files, but does not provide a way to store and use digital certificates for authentication or signing.

I propose adding a feature that enables users to securely store their digital certificates in Proton Pass and use them directly without installing them on the operating system or browser.

This would be extremely useful when working on shared or untrusted devices, where installing certificates locally is not safe or practical. It would also improve security and portability for users who rely on certificates for identity verification or encrypted communications.

  14. standardize

How about standardizing each Proton Product's login Dashboard to have the same look and feel with links for Account, Product Download, Properties, Settings, etc all be in the same location for each product dashboard. Seriously, what a friggin pain ********** it is to try and locate these settings on each dashboard?! The links are either missing, or moved, or whatever - it's frustrating! Think about a product like Microsoft's Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Each product I open has these controls easy to locate, in the same place, and easy to navigate. I mean, how hard can it…

  15. Run Immich server on proton drive, instead of the custom and very rudimentary photos feature we have now

    Hi,
the new photos feature is a nice direction, but a far cry from all the competitors.
So why not use an feature rich open source software like Immich, let it run on the Proton Drive storage and don't spend resources reinventing the wheel.
This would be a smart move!
Photos integration in drive is too basic and will take years to rival Google Photos etc, if at all.
    Best
    Kris

  20. Better Drive Integration with iOS

There really needs to be better integration with iOS and drive. It can be really frustrating at times trying to upload things from any random app to drive. There are times I try to upload a PDF via a notes app, or from a Ted message that I got. It is never an option. You always have to save to iOS Files app first then to Drive. I have found that to be the case with any app that I try to share a file to Drive. Would be nice to have that directly connected to bypass an extra step…
