1. Don’t append HTML signatures when replying to plain text emails.

   I have an HTML signature that includes linked text with a call to action, like, “Click here to see my work.” When relying to plain text messages, the signature is included but without the link. There should be an option for a plain text signature, or “Do not use in plain text.”

3. Remove Delete Account button from various phone apps

   It is scary how easy it is to delete an account using all these apps (Mail, Calendar, VPN, etc.) I would be super worried if I lost my phone while it is unlocked.

5. Desktop Application & Chrome extension integration

   Proton services and products do not integrate seamlessly and currently clash with each other. This is an issue across multiple services and not just a Proton VPN issue.

   The issue specific to Proton VPN;
   If both desktop application and browser extension is active at the same time, no connection is available in the browser (Vivaldi in this case, which offers built-in support for Proton VPN).

   Solution;
   The browser extension should detect if the desktop application has an active VPN connection before attempting to create its own VPN connection. Similarly, the desktop application should detect if a browser extension is currently running before attempting to create a VPN connection, and if one is found to be running, should notify the extension to disconnect from its session as the desktop application will take over the VPN connection responsibility.
   Please note, the browser extension's settings should in no way be overruled by the desktop application. Settings defined for the browser extension might differ from those defined for the system-wide desktop application.

   Context;
   I use both the desktop application and the browser extension independent of each other. Problem is, that the VPN is unreliable and therefore I do not want it running on a system-wide level at all times, however, I generally always have it turned on in the browser extension. This becomes a problem when the system-wide desktop application has an active VPN connection, and I open my browser. I only turn on the desktop application for specific purposes, and if I then wanna open my browser I have to either turn off the desktop application or turn off the browser extension. It's obviously not the end of the world having to turn of one of the VPNs, but it's definitely a huge problem considering it's a premium paid service.

6. Simplify 'Move to Folder' Button

   When I want to move an email to a custom folder, I have to select the folder from the drop-down menu and press 'Apply'. Rather, simply pressing the name of the custom folder should move that email to that folder, thereby removing the need to press 'Apply'.

7. Addition of "Copy" feature to filter definitions

   Currently, filter definitions only facilitate moving an email to another folder. An addition of the possibility to COPY an email to a folder (mutually exclusive of MOVE) would be most welcome. Quite often I wish to retain the original email in the inbox, but additionally auto-copy said email to a specific folder. Perhaps this feature exists already and I have missed it?

   As you may recall, I previously highlighted the cost barrier for deaf or hard-of-hearing users; this proposal builds on that by focusing on functional, hands-free AI accessibility.

   I would like to propose a solution that allows users like myself to interact with AI-driven features entirely through conversation or text commands, without needing to manually adjust settings, navigate menus, or configure workflows. Specifically, I would like the AI to:

   • Automatically create, organize, and manage tasks or outputs based on instructions.
   • Handle repetitive or complex actions efficiently.
   • Deliver notifications, summaries, or insights without requiring direct interaction with the app interface.
   

   Benefits:
   1. Independence and usability: Users can focus on outcomes rather than technical configurations.
   2. Efficiency: Hands-free automation reduces friction and streamlines workflow.
   3. Real-world insights for Proton: Observing these AI interactions provides feedback to improve accessibility and usability for the deaf or hard-of-hearing community.

   Collaboration Plan:
   • I can share anonymized logs of my interactions (fully end-to-end encrypted) over a four-week pilot.
   • Testing can occur using Proton’s existing workflow API or a sandbox environment, ensuring my workflow remains fully under my control.

   I am a deaf user who relies heavily on visual communication tools and AI assistance to read, understand, and compose written content. Lumo’s AI capabilities are essential for me to interact with digital information independently.

   However, the current pricing model makes these indispensable features effectively unavailable to many deaf users who cannot afford the additional cost. This creates a disparity in accessibility: a tool designed to aid communication becomes a financial obstacle for the very community that needs it most.

   I respectfully request that Proton consider one (or more) of the following accommodations:

   A discounted or free tier for deaf users that includes AI assistance (e.g., Lumo Plus features).
   An “Accessibility” add‑on with a minimal price, specifically aimed at users with hearing impairments.
   Eligibility for existing accessibility programs (if any) that could cover the cost of AI features for deaf individuals.
   Providing affordable AI assistance aligns with Proton’s commitment to privacy, security, and inclusive design. It would empower deaf users like myself to fully benefit from your ecosystem without facing a prohibitive cost barrier.

    Adapt the display of email content for reading on a smartphone.

    It is clearly easier to read a "gmail" email than a "protonmail" one. On the latter you have to zoom in and scroll from left to right to read the content.

    Under the "More" section of the Proton Mail app settings, a "Refer a Friend" link should be available for quick access and sharing with others.

    I tried finding this information the other day when someone asked me about Proton Mail, but I was unable to locate it.

14. Provide public bug trackers for all projects.

    You already provide a public feature request tracker, with UserVoice. For some repositories on GitHub, you leave issues enabled, which allows users to publicly report bugs (where they aren't restricted to function as discussions). Extend that capability to all repositories, so that users with diagnostic knowledge can report bugs that aren't necessarily able to submit PRs for (often due to outdated code).

    I would like to be able when reading an email on the mobile app, to switch to a temporary light mode. This is useful and even mandatory on certain barcode/QR-code reader that cannot operate when in dark mode. IE: getting or returning a parcel.

    I’m a Proton Unlimited user living in Melbourne (and I have friends in Indonesia and Malaysia). The current latency when opening mail folders, loading Drive files (Linux client please), or starting a chat is around 150 ms because the nearest edge is in Europe. That extra “thinking” time hurts productivity, especially on mobile networks.

    Opening an email from the Proton Mail servers in the Android app takes nearly 15 seconds.

    A local edge in Australia (or Singapore, which is a stable, centrally‑located hub for the whole region) would bring round‑trip times down to < 30 ms for metadata look‑ups and reduce upload/download latency for larger files. The result would be a snappier, and a far more responsive experience for all APAC users.

    Because Proton’s zero‑access encryption keeps the content unreadable to anyone, the main privacy gain is reduced metadata exposure and compliance with regional data‑sovereignty expectations (e.g., Australian government and enterprise policies that require data processing within a stable APAC jurisdiction). A Singapore edge also aligns with the PDPA, which is compatible with Proton’s privacy philosophy.

    The APAC market (Australia, New Zealand, SE Asia) is growing fast in privacy‑conscious adoption. Even a modest increase of 2 000–3 000 new Lumo Plus/Visionary subscriptions would offset the estimated AU $400‑$600 k yearly operating cost of a small edge cluster. Offering a faster, region‑specific service could be a strong differentiator against competitors that rely solely on US/EU data‑centres.

    Start with a metadata‑only edge (quick to deploy, low cost) and monitor latency improvements. If demand rises, extend to regional blob storage for Drive and add a secondary fail‑over node in Tokyo. A phased rollout lets Proton validate ROI while keeping the user experience excellent from day one.

    I’d love to see this on the roadmap and am happy to participate in any beta testing or provide further feedback. Thank you for listening!
