3. Integrated Phone Aliases (Recyclable Virtual Numbers) for Proton Pass

   Currently, Proton Pass (and SimpleLogin) does an amazing job at hiding user emails via aliases. However, most modern services (social media, marketplaces, fintech) require a phone number for SMS verification. This is a massive privacy hole where users are forced to give up their real identity, leading to SIM swapping risks and marketing spam.
   Describe the solution you'd like
   I propose an "Integrated Phone Alias" system within Proton Pass.
   Generation: Users can generate a virtual phone number (VMN) directly from the Pass UI.
   Reception: SMS codes sent to that number appear inside the Proton Pass item (similar to how 2FA codes work now).
   Recycling: Users can "recycle" (delete/rotate) the number once they are done with a service or if it starts receiving spam.
   Describe alternatives you've considered
   Using third-party "burner app" services, but these are often untrustworthy, not encrypted, and don't integrate with a password manager.
   Additional context
   As a College developer and privacy enthusiast, I believe this aligns perfectly with Proton’s mission. Technically, this could be handled by a backend integration with a VoIP provider (like Twilio/Vonage) while the mapping of the number to the Proton account remains end-to-end encrypted in the proton-pass-common logic

5. Add optional Secret Service (D-Bus) key provider for pass-cli on desktop Linux (KWallet / GNOME Keyring)

   Body:
   On Linux, Pass CLI defaults to PROTON_PASS_KEY_PROVIDER=keyring. According to the docs, this uses kernel key retention (kernel keyring) on Linux to avoid relying on D-Bus in headless/server environments.
   Because kernel secrets are cleared on reboot, this causes a forced logout after every reboot even on desktop systems:

   • Login works
   • Reboot
   • Next run: "Local encryption key not found but session exists. Forcing logout … Run pass-cli login again."`

   This is expected with kernel keyring, but it’s not a good desktop experience. On KDE/GNOME desktops, org.freedesktop.secrets (Secret Service) is available via D-Bus and users already rely on KWallet / GNOME Keyring for persistent secrets.

   Feature request:

   1. Add an optional key provider that stores the local encryption key in Freedesktop Secret Service (D-Bus), e.g.
      • PROTON_PASS_KEY_PROVIDER=secret-service (name up to you), or
      • automatically use Secret Service when available, and fall back to kernel keyring only in headless environments.
   2. Improve the forced-logout UX by explicitly explaining the cause and the correct variable name:
      • Mention that Linux keyring uses kernel secret storage and secrets are cleared on reboot
      • Suggest alternatives in the error message (fs/env) and document the exact env vars (PROTON_PASS_KEY_PROVIDER, PROTON_PASS_ENCRYPTION_KEY, etc.)

   Why this matters:
   Many desktop users do not want filesystem (fs) or environment (env) key storage for security reasons, but also don’t want to re-authenticate after every reboot. Secret Service would solve this on desktops while keeping kernel keyring as a robust default for servers/containers.

6. Access tokens for use with Pass CLI in automated use-cases

   I would like to use Pass with Pass CLI in automated workflows like CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, etc.
   Offering access tokens for authentication would allow to revoke access or rotate tokens regularly much easier as it is not necessary to change the primary account's password (which directly breaks all access).

   So when you try to export passwords from the Apple Passwords app, it asks whether you want to export the data directly to a new app. This way the user doesn't have to download and upload the file manually, as the process happens automatically.

9. Install pass-cli using a package manager

   I tried adding a comment to this existing thread ("Single Linux yum repo for all Proton apps

   Installing pass-cli via a downloaded bash script is not optimal, and feels very insecure. Instead, people on Linux distributions should be able to use their platform's package manager to install it.

   For example, it would be great to have a single yum repository for all Fedora-based proton products, so that I could just do "sudo dnf install pass-cli" (to install pass-cli specifically), or "sudo dnf update" to update everything easily. Instead, only proton-vpn has a yum repo, and everything else was a manual rpm download + install.

   But now here comes pass-cli, which makes me install via a remote bash script. :(

10. Proton Pass: set preferred login method (mail/username)

    Hi, I've been using proton pass recently. I love being able to add an email-address and a username.

    However, when I want to log in to multiple websites, pass will auto-fill the username, when actually only the email can be used. This usually happens when a websites has a login form "Email or Phone number".

    My idea would be to set a default "log in with" to either email or username in case you have added both, so that I can set that to mail and thus save me from having to manually edit a login form after auto filling it with proton pass.

11. Multi-Page Login: Auto-Fill Password on Second Page After Username Entry

    Many websites, like Google, split their login process into two pages: one for the username/email and another for the password. Currently, when using ProtonPass, we need to manually select our login item on both pages, which feels a bit redundant and inconvenient.

    With 1Password, once you select your login on the username/email page, it automatically fills in the password on the subsequent page without any additional input.

    This feature significantly enhances user experience by providing a smoother, quicker login process. It would be fantastic if ProtonPass could implement a similar streamlined multi-page login auto-fill functionality!

12. Proton Pass View Item History naming

    proton pass premium users can see the previously modified history of passwords but I want that I can change name of specific previous version history to a specific name so that I can understand in that time my password was this , sometimes we need to know the previous Password but as of lof modifications of passwords finding a partical previous version is very very hard so please add this feature to rename previous modified history of passwords

13. Merge identical password entries when importing

    Importing passwords from iCloud Passwords results in multiple entires in Proton Pass when there are multiple websites / URL's assigned to the same username & password entry

    For example: When you have the the following 3 URLs configured in a single Apple Passwords entry (example.org, www.example.org and portal.example.org) you end up now with 3 seperate entires in Proton Pass

    Pass Monitor also starts complaining about duplicate passwords because there are 3 entires created with the same username & password combination.

    The import process from Apple Password should be improved so only one entry is created with all 3 URLs.

    P.S. I don't know if this is also happening while importing from other password managers.

17. Force passkey interception

    Now, if proton pass is lock, proton extension will not catch the passkey request.
    I see someone ask for no interception at all
    I think the default behavior is important (catch if proton is unlocked, else let OS manage)
    But add a 3rd option to always catch passkey and prompt to unlock the extension

18. Add a sidebar view to Firefox Add-On

    The sidebar in Firefox would be a handy place to have the saved passwords at hand for the currently open web page.

    The big advantage is, that the sidbar stays open when I click something in a web page, e.g: during login when auto fill fails and one has to resort to copy/pasting from the password manager (copying user name first, then copying password, without the need to open the Proton Pass window again after it closes because of clicking into the user name box on the web site)
    I used bitwarden before Proton Pass, and this is the only feature I miss.

    Allowing the Add-On to be available as a sidebar seems fairly trivial: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/user_interface/Sidebars
