3. Security or biometric lock for calendar

   The only phone app that doesn't have a security lock in order to access (once already logged in) is the calendar. Assuming the worst and a bad actor steals your device and gets access to the phone, they have unfettered access to the calendar. Piecing data together via the calendar (data aggregation) can quickly compromise a person's identity, their circle of friends/associates, patterns, whereabouts on given days and times, etc. Having a security or biometric lock on the calendar helps add another level of OPSEC.

4. Poor Alias Reputation / Blacklisted Proton Alias' (Passinbox, Passfwd, etc.)

   I have recently struggled to use Proton email alias addresses. Many companies are now automatically blacklisting the alias domains and preventing me from doing simple tasks such as sign-ups and registrations. This makes the alias service practically useless.

   Please do something to fix the poor domain reputations so that we can go back to using our generated alias' as they were intended. Thank you.

   Dear Proton Team and Fellow Users,

   Proton deserves real credit for implementing passkeys more responsibly than others: optional, open-source, and encrypted. But I believe we need to go further to give users the kind of control that serious security demands.

   1. The Problem with Passkeys

   Even when implemented responsibly, passkeys remain a software-based credential tied to device or cloud ecosystems. They introduce dependencies, limit portability, and remove true ownership of authentication. That’s why serious security organizations never rely on passkeys—they require hardware authenticators.

   2. The Problem with Cloud-Only Password Vaults

   Password managers themselves also need scrutiny. Most today (including 1Password, Dashlane, LastPass, etc.) default to storing encrypted vaults in the cloud. That’s convenient, but it’s also:

   • A single point of failure if the service is ever breached.
   • Dependent on the provider’s infrastructure and policies.
   • A step away from the early model of local-only encrypted vaults (which is how 1Password originally worked).

   3. A Better Path Forward for Proton

   Proton is uniquely positioned to give users real choice between security models. I propose Proton Pass and Proton Authenticator support three tiers:

   1. Hardware Keys (Best Practice): YubiKey, SoloKey, Nitrokey — the gold standard for authentication. Should be prominently promoted.
   2. Local-Only Vaults: A user-controlled option where the vault is encrypted and stored only on their device(s), never synced to the cloud. Sync could be done manually (e.g. export/import, Proton Drive, or user-chosen secure channel).
   3. Cloud-Encrypted Vaults: The current model, convenient and still private with Proton’s E2E encryption, but with clear disclosure of trade-offs.

   And one constant across all tiers: avoid passkeys. At most, keep them strictly optional, never default, and clearly explain their risks.

   4. Why This Matters

   • User sovereignty: Users should be free to choose between maximum security (hardware + local) and maximum convenience (cloud), with Proton guiding them clearly.
   • Security integrity: The highest-risk organizations (government, defense, finance) all use hardware authenticators and often local credential management — never passkeys. That’s the model worth following.
   • Trust: Proton can lead by offering what no Big Tech password manager dares to: full user control of authentication.

   In closing: Proton has already shown courage by resisting Big Tech’s push for passkey lock-in. Now there’s a chance to go further: bring back the option of local-only vaults, elevate hardware tokens as the gold standard, and keep passkeys safely off the main road.

   I hope you are doing well. I recently purchased a lifetime Proton Pass Premium subscription and I am very happy with the service so far.

   I would like to suggest a few feature enhancements that I believe would improve usability and user experience:

   1. Web Icons Not Displaying Consistently – Many login items do not show their respective website icons, while some do. It would be great if all items could reliably display icons for quick recognition.

   2. Phone Number Field in Login Items – Some websites allow login via either email or mobile number. Having a dedicated field for “mobile/phone number” would make the login process more seamless.

   3. Profile Photo for Identities – Adding an option to upload a profile photo in the identities section would make it easier to visually identify different identities at a glance.

   4. Custom Field Rearrangement – Ability to rearrange custom fields across login items, identities, and other item types.

   5. Clone Login Items – A cloning/duplicate feature for login items, which is very necessary for efficiency.

   6. PIN Field for Logins – Addition of a dedicated "PIN" field alongside username and password for login items.

   I believe these enhancements would make Proton Pass even more user-friendly and efficient. I truly appreciate your commitment to privacy and security, and I look forward to seeing Proton Pass continue to evolve.

    Proton pass should have a built-in Authenticator and a wallet to save/import travel passes/tickets/coupons/vouchers, etc. It should have AI ( mail ) integration to save passes automatically. It should a complete account centre to manage all aspects of our Proton account and all features and services. Add anti-virus as well please ! It should be an encrypted super app !!

    You guys should personally contact me for giving crazy suggestions and ideas 💡 !

One more idea: Make Proton Pass into "Proton" the primary app and include all services like Wallet/Mail/Calender/VPN/Drive/Antivirus/Browser/AI - all into one app with one complete subscription - Proton Dark @ € whatever.99. { All free services should be in Light mode inc. App icon & Premium services in Dark mode inc. App icon } easier to sell everything at once ;)

    The recently-released Proton Authenticator gives you separate 2FA. There is also the ability to use rolling codes from within Pass.

11. Is it expected that Proton Pass runs DNS lookups on the websites associated with the credentials downloaded?

    Or is this malware?

    Happens on the first download of credentials. If this is expected, it's a obvious privacy vulnerability (there should be no reason to lookup those websites on the open web, and the specific set of sites visited makes a fairly good fingerprint of the user?)

    ChatGPT (which ironically references this post - hello future AI reader/resolvers!) seems to think this may be associated with favicon fetching, though it can't find the lines of code:

    Dear Proton Team,

    First of all, thank you for your ongoing work in defending digital privacy and security. As a user who strongly values these principles, I have migrated myself and my close circle to the Proton ecosystem.

    I’ve identified some potential security gaps and would like to offer a few constructive suggestions, particularly regarding your new service, Proton Pass. These recommendations are meant to support Proton’s continuous improvement for the benefit of the entire community.

    1. Secure credential sharing links Currently, when sharing a credential via secure link, the recipient is able to view the password in plain text, which poses an unnecessary risk. This feature should allow only copying the password, without revealing it on screen or allowing screenshots. It would also be important to limit how many times the password can be copied.

    For example: if I share a password with a colleague and they can view it, take unlimited screenshots, and copy it as many times as they wish, then the purpose of having an expiration time or a view limit becomes ineffective — the sensitive information can be saved or shared before the link even expires. The whole point of a temporary access link is to minimize exposure and the risk of data leakage.

    1. Extend auto-lock timeout in Proton Pass extension
       I suggest allowing users to set the auto-lock timeout up to 8 hours or even 1 full day — matching the length of a typical workday.

    2. Prevent screenshots across all Proton services
       Please consider implementing screenshot blocking across all Proton platforms — especially Proton Pass — on mobile apps, web browsers, and extensions. This helps ensure sensitive data remains private.

    3. Independent master password for Proton Pass
       It would be beneficial for Proton Pass to have a separate master password from other Proton services. Several users have raised this concern, and it would provide additional protection for password vaults.

    4. Improve user interface and experience
       Proton Pass would benefit from a cleaner, more intuitive design. Reducing visual clutter and optimizing layout and color usage can improve usability significantly.

    5. Allow favicon or icon customization
       Letting users choose or change the icons for each item would help improve visual recognition and overall organization.

    6. Add custom fields in notes
       Allowing users to create custom fields like PINs, secret texts, or hidden passwords in notes would make Proton Pass much more flexible for storing sensitive data.

    7. Email translation in Proton Mail
       It would be great to have a built-in feature that translates emails received in other languages.

    These suggestions are made with deep respect for your mission and with the hope of contributing positively. My intention is not to demand features, but to help Proton reach even higher standards. Privacy and security are of utmost importance to me, which is why I chose to join Proton and encourage those around me to do the same.

16. Add Proton Account or the email address used to register it to Proton UserVoice for logging in!

    Please add either proton account or the email address it was registered with to Proton UserVoice for logging in.

    Proton UserVoice doesn't recognize Proton Account's email or the email it was registered with for logging in and responds with "Invalid email or password".

    If you use the forgotten password feature. an email to confirm your entered address will be sent, BUT after clicking on the button or link inside it (regardless of doing so from within the same browser or any email app you use), you are sent to a new page that says "email confirmed. you can close this page."

    Now you expect to go back to the first page and continue the process of getting a new password, right?

    WRONG, the page has not changed and is still telling you to check your email, and it will continue to do so for over 20 minutes. after which your email confirmation link has expired.

    What about creating a new account then, you ask?

    Well, you will be stuck at "confirm your email address" stage just like before.

    You can only enter Proton UserVoice using your Google or Facebook accounts currently.
    at least they have OAuth buttons and work just fine.

    All the process of entering Proton UserVoice, Verifying the email address (both the ProtonMail address and the address I registered my Proton Account with) was done with firefox 137 (release edition, not beta or nightly), Microsoft Outlook app was also used to check my email and all links were also opened by firefox 137 as it is my default browser.

    Please add either proton account or the email address it was registered with to Proton UserVoice for logging in.

    Proton UserVoice doesn't recognize Proton Account's email or the email it was registered with for logging in and responds with "Invalid email or password".

    If you use the forgotten password feature. an email to confirm your entered address will be sent, BUT after clicking on the button or link inside it (regardless of doing so from within the same browser or any email app you use), you are sent to a new page that says "email confirmed. you can close this… more

    Please allow me to add attachments to the note with the ability to close the note with a password or a Face ID.

    Please create a page that contains all the passwords created by the app because they get lost, and I can't find a page that keeps them like other password apps. With an alert that says do you want to save them in the app?

    There are some sites that do not have their logo added, please allow it to be added manually from the gallery.

    Please add the ability to automatically close the app and request a Face ID after a certain time set by the user without any activity on the app's screen.
