1. Crucial Proton Pass Improvements:

2. Deterministic PGP Keys for Reverse Aliases

   Goal

   Provide each SimpleLogin reverse alias with its own independent OpenPGP identity, while keeping key management simple and preventing external observers from linking different aliases to the same Proton account.

   Design

   Proton maintains a dedicated secret AliasPGPRoot for the user.

   For every immutable reverse alias, Proton derives deterministic key material from:

   AliasPGPRoot + normalized alias address

   using a cryptographic KDF such as HKDF.

   Example:

   AliasPGPRoot

       |       -> OpenPGP key A
       |
       +-- HKDF("alias-b@simplelogin.com")
       |       -> OpenPGP key B

   Separate derivation contexts should be used for signing and encryption keys.

   The resulting OpenPGP certificates are completely independent. They contain only the reverse alias as their identity and no reference to the user's real Proton address, root secret, or other aliases.

   The public key for each alias is stored in SimpleLogin. The private key does not need to be stored separately: Proton clients can deterministically reconstruct it locally when needed.

   Privacy Properties

   An external observer seeing:

   alias A -> public key A
   alias B -> public key B
   alias C -> public key C
   

   should have no cryptographic way to determine that these keys originate from the same Proton account.

   Compromise of one derived alias private key should also not allow derivation of the root secret or keys belonging to other aliases.

   Important Design Requirements

   • Use a strong domain-separated KDF such as HKDF.
   • Derive signing and encryption key material independently (optional).
   • Prefer deterministic ECC-based key generation rather than deterministic RSA generation.
   • Alias OpenPGP certificates must not contain metadata linking them to the Proton account or other aliases.
   • The alias address must be canonicalized consistently before derivation.
   • The derivation format must be versioned, e.g. proton-reverse-pgp/v1, so future algorithms can be introduced safely.

   Risks and Considerations

   Root-secret compromise:
   Compromise of AliasPGPRoot exposes all alias keys. It therefore needs the same level of protection as other high-value Proton secrets.

   Deterministic derivation stability:
   Changing the KDF, canonicalization rules, curve, or OpenPGP key-generation procedure would otherwise produce different keys. The derivation specification therefore needs strict versioning and long-term compatibility.

   Alias reuse:
   If a deleted alias address could ever be reassigned, address-only derivation would reproduce the same key for the same user. Ideally SimpleLogin should guarantee that reverse aliases are never reused, or an immutable alias identifier should additionally be included in the derivation.

   Metadata correlation:
   The scheme prevents cryptographic linking of aliases, but correlation may still be possible through mail headers, timing, account metadata, identical OpenPGP preferences, or server-side information. Generated certificates should therefore minimize unnecessary shared metadata.

   Result

   This design provides:

   • one independent PGP identity per reverse alias,
   • no externally visible cryptographic relationship between aliases,
   • deterministic recovery without storing large numbers of private keys,
   • local/on-demand private-key generation by Proton clients,
   • straightforward integration with SimpleLogin through per-alias public keys.

4. Combiner les adresses "Hide-my-email" et les "Identifiants"

   Salut la communauté Proton !

   Quand vous créez un compte, vous devez :

   • Créer une adresse Hide-my-email.
   • Créer un identifiant.

   Cela crée deux objets distincts pour un seul compte. Lorsque vous possédez une centaine de comptes, cela devient vite le bazar.

   Je propose donc d’ajouter la possibilité de glisser-déposer une adresse Hide-my-email dans un identifiant existant, lorsque l’adresse e-mail correspond à celle renseignée dans l’identifiant.

   L’objectif est de regrouper les deux objets en un seul, afin de centraliser toutes les informations d’un même compte et de simplifier leur gestion :)

5. Contacts

   I would like to see the ability to store and save Contact information. Having all of my contacts saved in a service like Google Contacts is useful, but overwhelming and unnecessary at times. With Proton Pass, I could create contacts that I don't need to pop up everytime I send an email or am looking for someone specific. For instance, It would work great with Vaults, being able to organize and share with others, as well as being able to have an archive of contacts that I no longer use or regularly need. Not to mention that it would be great for storing important contact information privately, as not everyone trusts others with that sensitive info. I know that Identity is a thing already, but It isn't great for storing other's information. Something like this could be simple, yet super helpful.

9. Can't get it to sync no matter what I try. Someone suggested it's because I'm using a VPN?

   I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've been trying to find a replacement for Authy every since they abandoned desktop support, and I'm not a fan of Microsoft. I tried Proton Authenticator but the five or so sites I have tried thus far have completely failed to sync and I'm currently locked out of my own website and can't use it to log into ProtonMail either (I have YubiKeys, luckily). Really not sure what's going on there, but someone suggested it's because I'm using a VPN? Surely that can't be right; it's not been a problem before. I'm very happy with NordPass and NordVPN and won't be changing those, but equally I thought it unwise to put everything in one boat. That said, I only just found out Nord have an integrated 2FA authenticator themselves, just for some bizarre reason they never advertise it. I've been with them for 2 years. Any advice on why Proton specifically is not syncing would be welcome. It's getting a bit annoying trying different authenticators all the time.

16. Make Proton Pass work like a professional password manager

    The idea guys is to make this shoddy piece of password toy of yours work more like a professional software, for example:

    • How about after the app has been installed and one has gone through all the hoops to set up all the permissions in Android, set your toy as the main auto-complete and password manager, etc., your app actually auto-completed and saved new logins happenning in other apps, without one having to open it evey time so that it notices it has to do this optional feature?
    • When a new login is created or a password is changed instead of taking hours for the changes to be broadcast across all logged in clients of the same account, how about in seconds? I imagine you are saving the planet by running your network on dial-up but, think about the children.
    • When you update your app, after one had already set up biometrics, how about the updated app remembered those biometrics and allowed the person to log in with them into the updated app? Now that would make it look it professional, wouldn't it?
    • Ooh, ooh, listen to this one, how about when one has not set up a second password for the account, then the app didn't ask for it, thus preventing one going round in circles to enter a second password that was never set up?
    • Oh, I just squeezed one out! How about when a Google Sign In pops up on an external browser window, instead of your toy browser add-on loading TWO overlays (one for all the Google accounts and another for all the saved passkeys) at the same time and one on top of the other, you first load the account overlay and then once the account is selected, the passkeys overlay shows up?

17. Mehrere Mailadressen und Passwörter eingeben können

    Hallo, wieso kann man nicht mehrere Passwörter und mehrere Mailadressen eingeben? Auch andere Bausteine zum selber benennen würden sicher viele begrüssen. Die Beilagen würde ich gerne im geschützten Raum öffnen und nicht zuerst auf das Gerät herunterladen, sei es ein Ausweis oder nur eine Kundenkarte. Danke

20. Just set up Proton Auth on my 3 systems to replace Authy. Got them syncing. I won't lose that if my protonmail goes down for some reason?

    I don't fully understand this site. I've just spent the past couple of hours making sure that the combination of Proton and Nord software is fully operational on my MacBook, my iPhone, and my PC. I note that Auth is supposed to be stand-alone but requires a protonmail account for them to sync... that's absolutely fine as I've had one for years. I'm just wondering will anything catastrophic happen if I were to lose my mail account? Probably not, but it does feel a bit like putting most of my eggs in one basket. Incidentally, I'm replacing Authy because they inexplicably decided to abandon their desktop versions leaving me entirely reliant on my phone for 2FA. This, on the other hand works on everything, and looks nicer.
