I believe there is a way to keep everyone happy by providing this feature as an optional configurable setting.

This feature is valid for some specific cases, but not for all. After all, no one deserves to delete something on their smartphone, believing it is backed up, only to suffer the side effect of losing it forever.

The user needs to know what will happen when they take an action; this is a requirement for any software or service. Therefore, keeping something like this optional, configurable, and disabled by default should satisfy everyone.

I expanded on that request a bit in a new request. It's possible that a merge is the case (or not): https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932839-proton-drive/suggestions/50833301-android-file-sync-extended

Setting up a new smartphone (when we buy a new one, lose it, or have it stolen) is a nightmare for anyone, and a large part of this tedious work involves files—any type, not just photos and videos. For those who also use their smartphones for work, which is extremely common, this becomes even more relevant.

I believe it's essential for Proton Drive to implement synchronization for any directory on the smartphone, and consequently, for any subdirectory as well.

To accommodate all use cases, the best solution is likely to allow users to select which specific directories they want to synchronize with the Drive at any level—and, very importantly, obviously to automatically synchronize all subdirectories of each chosen entry point. This way, we no longer have to manually evaluate the resource settings frequently.

Similarly, the ability to keep only certain files/directories available for offline and immediate access on the smartphone is also important and should be at the user's discretion for each file/directory.

Note: I opened this request as new because I believe this feature deserves special attention, and my perspective may be slightly different and/or more specific regarding this need than what has been specified in other requests.

I was setting up split tunneling and it reminded me of an important detail: the frequency with which IPs change in large web services.

It's crucial for Proton team to implement this feature, along with other enhancements for split tunneling, as soon as possible. This not only delivers the resources that paying customers want but **can also significantly reduce data traffic on the VPN service's servers**.

In my case, for example, data from streaming services passes through the VPN because there was no alternative. Fortunately, they recently implemented split tunneling with a kill switch, which can help, but it will still cause issues at some point when the IPs change, and the data from Netflix and similar services will likely start passing through the VPN again without me noticing.

So, the use of hostnames is an essential first step at this moment.

I’m really considering switching the service to NordVPN because of the dedicated‑IP offer. This is necessary in some contexts, but here it could/should be implemented in a more useful way.

What I think Proton team should consider:
People who use a PC are often alternating between work and personal activities. In some cases it would be very necessary and important to have a dedicated, exclusive IP for those activities (like my use case, for example, as a developer, for secure access to certain services and the like). But it’s also essential to retain the ability to use shared IPs (as is currently the case) to ensure privacy during personal browsing, etc.

What I have in mind, and which would be extremely useful, is for any Proton user to be able to purchase as many dedicated IPs as they want and create VPN profiles for each of those dedicated IPs, while still being able to use shared IPs in other profiles. This would provide the best of both worlds, covering both needs: keeping the current functionality for satisfied users and adding support for new use cases (mainly work‑related), which would surely attract more paying customers.

NordVPN, for example, charges for dedicated IPs on a monthly basis for each IP the user wants to buy. A dedicated IP at NordVPN costs just €4.19/month. It could work the same way here.

This is really very important, but the solution needs to come without compromising privacy, security and anonymity.

I was about to open a request at this moment with this intention. I use VPN for both work and leisure, and adopting the same split tunneling rules for all profiles is, frankly, an opening for potential problems, including security issues. Allowing split tunneling to be defined in profiles is essential.

I came to propose this idea. It could be the use of emojis, for example, since the list is standardized, extensive, and known on virtually any platform.
