I am trying to look for a converatsion about how non-optional threading of conversations (a recent change?) is a complete non-starter for me. I fail in even basic use of the Proton Mail web client and desktop client, because of this.
How did that weird idea come about? It is the very reason why I never read emails using Gmail (prefer Thunderbird too).
I am considering moving to the Proton eco-system (including with a company where I am CTO), but will never ever do that if email threading is mandatory.

I would propos to instead use hierarchical clustering to merge multiple revisions to a coarser time resolution as docs grow older. The aggressiveness of this clustering could be user-settable.

You have posted the exact same suggestion twice - please do not do that, as there is enough clutter here as it is.

Tht is very surprising, as TCP connections would fairly share the available bandwidth. Is Proton Drive really not using TCP connections for syncing?

I agree with Kmk - this would best be supported as a new feature "search folders", based on both the hierarchical folder structure and labels.

I agree, and for other uses too. Astonishingly, Google Drive is missing this feature (Duplicate Folder).

A slightly different approach would be to do very frequent versioning like now, but apply a hierarhcical clustering algorithm on older version history, allowing also to open a clustered version to see more fine-grained time resolution.

I we make the move, then I will use IMAP access from Thunderbird (and other sane email clients), but this prevents me from even evaluating if Proton Mail will be usable for us
