aliases
To top off the security of Proton Mail it great to be able to generate email aliases.
This would allow Proton Mail users to log in to each website/service online with a different email address.
This would increase online anonymity and reduce the chance of a Proton Mail user getting hacked.
Detailed Description:
When a user wants a new alias they click 'new alias' and a new email is generated that always forwards to the user's main email.
e.x. 1b1f6253-a280-43e2-95e2-043e82dae3e7@protonmail.com
Then a user can label that email so they can keep track of what it is used for.
ex. Facebook
Then when they sign up to Facebook, they use that email address, but they receive the message in their normal inbox. If they reply to that sender, it replies using the alias.
When you compose a new message you can select which alias to send from.
If you send to an address where an alias was previously used, it defaults to that alias.
From an outsiders perspective they only interact with the alias.
Protonmail now has the ability to add aliases through the use of “+” in your main ProtonMail account, as well as through creating new email aliases under one account. https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/aliases-within-protonmail/

Adding - I recently became a paid customer and did not realize it was missing such a basic and MUCH MUCH needed feature.
I dont want myself or my family to follow the steps to hide the main email.
No one has time to go to SimpleLogin, create reverse alias, copy, then come back to email. Average users like simplicity not the extra steps. Less clicks is always better.
When will this get updated @Proton? -

I have no idea why my idea "Always use hide-my-email aliases" was merged into this, which is tagged as completed, since the solution that was implemented here (the use of the + alias address) is a terrible implementation, and does not leverage the "hide-my-email aliases" functionality at all.
If my idea was merged into this issue, because you are planning on improving the implementation that was initially created here, in order to implement my idea, then please remove the Completed tag from this idea, to avoid confusion for everyone.

When creating a new login, Proton Pass can propose making the email an alias by default. iCloud currently does with with the suggestion 'hide your email'?
This would be convenient, and align with Proton's mission of Privacy By Default.

At a minimum, being able to create a new alias within proton mail.
Ideally I can select/search through my aliases from within proton mail and sending that email automatically adds the recipients as contacts to the alias

As someone who uses SimpleLogin aliases for everything as well, this would really make my life much easier.
I would really like my Proton Family members to do that as well, but they have a much lower tolerance of suffering.

Indeed this is another much needed feature to make Proton even more secure.
I might not want a new alias per contact/recipient since one often emails different contacts in the same email, but I would rather be able to elevate a small number, e.g. 3-5, of my hide-my-email aliases to be always shown as a sender option.

I completely agree. Today, everytime I need to hide my email I need to:
- Stop what I was doing on ProtonMail
- Open Simple Login
- Create the reverse alias
- Copy it and go back to ProtonMail to use itAbsolutely painful.

I would like to propose a new feature to enhance the email management capabilities of Proton Mail, specifically related to the use of aliases. Currently, I create a large number of aliases to test various tools and services, which results in receiving nearly 20 unnecessary newsletter emails per day.
To better manage these emails, I suggest introducing the ability to sort and manage emails based on the alias used. Here are some potential features:
- **Parameters for Aliases**: Allow users to add parameters to aliases, such as the ability to suppress notifications or automatically sort emails received via a specific alias into a designated folder.
- **Automated Sorting**: Provide an option to automatically sort emails received through a particular alias into a predefined folder or label.
- **Simplified Rule Management**: Instead of creating a separate rule for each alias, which can be time-consuming and cumbersome, allow users to manage these rules directly through the alias settings. This feature would significantly improve my ability to manage the influx of emails and reduce the clutter in my inbox. It would also make it easier to test various tools and services without being overwhelmed by unnecessary emails.
Thank you for considering this request.

Please proton, please implement this. This is extremely needed. Just for sending a mail, I need to hop between simple login and proton mail. This is annoying. Please make it simple for your users

This is FAR more important than Proton calendar, drive, wallet etc.!

I thought it was just me that found this incredibly frustrating, especially when you forget to use a reverse alias on an email and SL blocks it. This would be much preferred over that behavior.

This is one of my biggest frustrations with proton mail/simplelogin. I have to go back and forth between apps to create the reverse-alias.

TL;DR: Make it possible to enforce that your actual email address is always hidden.
Writing an email to a new recipient via ProtonMail without leaking your address, is a rather annoying exercise. First you have to make an alias (either via ProtonPass or directly in SimpleLogin), then you have to make a reverse alias via SimpleLogin or attach it to a contact via ProtonPass, and finally you can send your email.
There should be a button straight in ProtonMail that just says "hide my email address", and then every recipient (including CC and BCC) is turned into a hide-my-email reverse alias (or an existing reverse alias used).
Even better, a setting that **always** does this.

I would like to create an alias within the phone application. I cannot tell you how many times I have used a "throw away" email address while in person. This would be a whole lot quicker if it were included all in one place on the app.
