  1. Readability

In the standard web interface after accounting for branding, buttons, email headers, and footers, the actual content of an email is restricted to about 3 lines. Trying to read a long email is painful. I couldn't find a way to either a. Make a dedicated model pop up for a single message for reading or b. Expand the existing read window to allow for more text to be read at once, in any view.

  2. Faster syncing and displaying speed

The speed of displaying and syncing is not very slow but a bit disappointed comparing to the other mail services I've used (Blackberry Hub, Gmail). It's just not as smoothe as it can(should?) be.

  3. Add received spam senders to blacklist with one click

When I get a spam email I would like to be able to blacklist the sender with one-click ( maybe 2 clicks or a right-click) to add them to my blacklist without having to copy and paste or re-type the spammers email address, please.

  4. Encrypted Contact Form for Websites

A contact form that we can embed on our websites so visitors can send encrypted emails to our ProtonMail addresses. The form could automatically encrypt messages before sending them, and have the usual fields like name, email, subject, and message body.

For example, the form could be inside an <iframe> that's served over HTTPS.

The embed code would need to use some kind of token instead of the actual email address, to protect the address from being disclosed to email harvester bots. Also, for greater security, the form could refuse to load if it detects it's embedded on an insecure…

  5. Matrix integration

The matrix protocol is going to displace email.
If protonmail wants to stay(become very) relevant, they should look
for ways to bridge their email platform to the matrix platform.
See matrix.org to find out about your next communication protocol.

  6. Informing ProtonMail users about potentially unsafe messages

    Hi,

I would like to see this feature added to ProtonMail.

When a ProtonMail user sends email to other email service or receives email from other email service, then ProtonMail will indicate / highlight...
    a) When a received message was not encrypted (TLS)
    b) When composing a message to a recipient whose email service doesn't support TLS encryption, or when the sender’s domain couldn't be authenticated. An indicator before sending a message to a service that doesn't support TLS encryption

This will be useful, as the user can find out if email (sent / received) is encrypted in transit when…

  7. Security - auto lock out of ProtonMail with timer limit.

In the browser when using ProtonMail, it'd be nice to have a timer that auto log-out or locks the access to the mail system after a predefined amount of time - also linked to Sleep status of the computer / smartphone system. This would limit accidental access to the mail system even if there's access to the physical hardware (=computer / smartphone).

  8. Make Archive action more prominent in (Android) app

It's pretty cumbersome to archive email in the Android app, and yet archiving can be important (more important than cluttering the inbox or deleting). Could you make it a directly accessible option?

  9. Be able to collapse the left-hand menu in web app

Would be nice to collapse the left-hand menu on the web app when the browser size is not too big. This is useful when pinning a window or having limited width space available.

  12. Encryption of all metadata

If Protonmail is to be serious about privacy, I don't understand why all metadata isn't kept solely in encrypted form. I just signed up for Scryptmail and any data is kept in encrypted form, unreadable for any third party.

I don't see why it would be necessary to keep for instance the senders or subject titles in encrypted form when Protonmail doesn't support POP3 or IMAP.

The problem is that otherwise e-mail is inherently insecure, because if for instance a governmental entity wants to see your account, while they won't have access to the content of your e-mails, they can…

We have given this quite a bit of thought, but at the present moment, it is not clear the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages.

The biggest problem is search. Encrypting all metadata would break metadata search entirely on the web client as there is still no efficient way to handle search of encrypted data within a browser.

Secondly, metadata encryption’s value from a privacy standpoint is also somewhat dubious. Because we ultimately must deliver the message to the recipient, we must know who the recipient is. At the current time, there still isn’t any proven and viable way to work around this.

Metadata encryption is an area of continued research for us, and when the opportunity arises and the technology for doing this matures, we will definitely implement it in ProtonMail.

  13. Integrate LibreOffice Online

LibreOffice Online is a web interface for LibreOffice (previously OpenOffice)

It's getting ready and it would be an incredible asset to ProtonMail once it gets a stable release.

You could extend your security and privacy oriented service with an Office application!

  14. Printing entire conversations that occur in one e-mail chain.

How it stands now, if you have more than one email in a conversation you have to print each one individually-- which is fine if there are only a few emails in that chain.

When you have a lot of messages in one conversation it is a little tedious to have to print each one.

I understand that you can have the conversation displayed as quoted text and print that, but it would be more efficient to have the option to print the entire conversation the way Gmail does.

    Thanks.

  15. An option for having unread messages on top of mailbox

This feature would allow users to have by default the unread messages on top allways, rather that having to select the show unread from the menu.

I am usually more interested in having access to my unread messages, even if they are old.

  16. notification synchronization

The mobile email notification is great, but it needs to automatically be removed when you interact with the email on another device. In other words, I get a notification on my phone while sitting at my desk. I open the email and delete it in my browser. Currently the notification stays on my phone. It should be "unpushed' after I interact. This is may seem minor, but I have multiple devices (as do most people) and without it the notification is inaccurate and subsequently pointless.

  20. Allow choosing alias addresses in From:-Field when composing or replying to an email

By using an proton alias-email address like "username+alias@protonmail.com" in contact forms, you will receive emails to this alias address in response. However, it is not possible to answer in return using that alias address, i.e., you cannot set in "From:" or "ReplyTo:" fields an alias address.

That is confusing because the From:-email-address is forced to change during a single email communication.

Moreover, in general, it would be good to allow a freely chosen "ReplyTo" or "From" email address, including email-aliases.

    Thanks!
