Mobile client - Respect quoting in replies
When replying to a threaded mail in the mobile client, I expect the threading indicators (>) to be respected. This works fine in the desktop client, but in the mobile client, the threading isn't respected, so when I try to reply to a message, the last sender's mail doesn't have the '>' symbol in front of their text, and previous replies are not incremented to >> or whatever.
This makes it impossible to use the mobile client to respond to long mail threads without manually going through all of the text and editing the thread indicators, which is crazy.3 votes -
Proton VPN GUI Linux. Enable secure core by default under settings. Due to Smart Routing leak
There is a leak in your Smart Routing Technology that leaks the real server location in the US, and you promote it as a brilliant solution.
This affects an estimated 6.7 million Proton users in LATAM.
On top of the transparencies required in this field, where there are rights of US expats that pretend to show in the country they actually live in and not where they come from.
On top of human rights that could be involved that I haven't even completely considered, there are dissidents expecting to show up from somewhere else.
There is also a commercial impact on international companies' revenues.
FixedFloat and Peach Sarl are two examples, both crypto-related, both with restricted US usage behind Cloudflare's NS. But there are many more.
This means that to connect to either of these companies where I work, I can't use the Quicker Connection Server settings because all LATAM shows as US.
I'm forced to choose a fixed location like CA or IS to access my own company server, with no CTO access rights to whitelist my IP.
Well, at least let me still show from PY on non-Cloudflare-affected websites but on the others.
And give me back a better Secure Core implementation in this app.
There is a quick fix for this:
Even if it's still a partial solution, allow enabling "Secure Core" by default and so at startup from the settings of the Linux GUI app.
I know you are going in the other direction by moving the Secure Core settings from general UI to country- and server-specific settings. But we need general filter settings like we have for any other features, like blocking level.
This way, we will be able to work on our servers without having to change from fast connections, showing as IS or CH, and not be blocked by the US, even if we are all in PY. I handle 5 accounts and 2 teams, and we are considering switching at least from your VPN business plan.
We are already implementing our team solution in Caaguazú, PY, for IPs to be whitelisted on all the team servers, VPSs, and barebones. And you lost a potential client with your extra offer for dedicated IPs.
Thank you.

See ongoing and completed folder actions
At present when you perform a bulk action (eg moving many emails from one folder to another) while this is still in progress the folder/label shows a banner saying "Message actions in progress. This may take a while." I would like a central place in settings to see what actions are currently in progress and when they have completed. This is particularly important when setting up filters and applying them to existing emails.
Eg I moved all emails from "facebook" to a particular folder, then moved all facebook emails regarding events to a sub-folder, at present it is very difficult to tell that these operations will happen in the correct order.
I also have some short term memory issues which mean that I am sure that I repeated several actions unnecessarily.
Being able to cancel in progress actions (with a warning that cancelling the action will not reverse it) would be useful.

Link (or associate) emails and calendar events
This is different from creating a Calendar event from an email.
It is the ability to associate one or more emails with a Calendar event (or a task, which is a feature I expect to see soon).
Simple use-case:
- You receive 3 emails on different days notifying you about a delivery you'll have in 2 weeks time.
- You create a Calendar event two weeks from now saying "a delivery is expected on this day".
- You link the emails you receive regarding that delivery to that calendar event (or task). Any further emails you receive can also be linked to that event.
- When going into the calendar event, you can see a list of emails associated with it.This is very similar to how labels work, but instead of labels, they are actual Calendar events.
Another use-case is trip planning. You want to be able to easily refer to the relevant emails directly from a Calendar event.
This can be achieved quite easily by storing an email UID in a special section of the Calendar event metadata, and similarly, the Calendar events UIDs in the email metadata.

A setting to optionally include the "From" email address in the Inbox View
There should be a setting to optionally include the "From" email address in the Inbox View (in addition to the email Display Name, which is the default).
I feel that not having this as an option is a security vulnerability. Here is an example: a local company (vet, physical therapy, chiropractor, etc.) outsources various aspects of online client interaction (feedback surveys, OTP, appointment reminder, billing, etc.) to various 3rd party companies. As a result, I receive emails from 4-5 different companies that all use identical Display Names ("XYZ veterinarian"). I have gotten used to the idea that it's normal to receive emails from 4-5 domains for one company that I patronize.
If I'm not careful, it would be incredibly easy for a malicious actor to slip in one additional email domain with an identical Display Name. Before I know it, I've clicked a link or entered my information compromising my account.
Without the ability to choose to view the actual Email Address in the Inbox View, it becomes easier to get phished.
P.S. I am aware that I can hover over the Display Name in order to see the Email Address, but if I have a lot of emails I'm reviewing quickly that becomes tedious.

I need an option for all-day events to mark my calendar as "free" instead of "busy all day."

Name the color labels in calendar so I remember what I chose for a category
I love being able to use colors for a category of meeting in calendar (red, blue, etc) but then I sometimes have to look back and confirm what I chose for a previous type...would be great if we could rename then from the color to "school", "work", etc.
I can't see whether someone already posted this since there are so many ideas suggested. Sorry if it's a repeat.

Allow users to generate separate SMTP credentials to enable secure third-party integration
Note: This is a different request than the similar SMTP Token customization.
Problem Statement
Currently, Proton Mail (including Proton Bridge) uses the same authentication credentials for both receiving and sending email. This creates a security risk when integrating third-party services:
Single Point of Failure: Any service with my credentials can send emails from my account No Safe-by-Design Option: Even if I instruct an AI agent not to send, there's no technical enforcement Least-Privilege Violation: Services that only need to read/process mail shouldn't have send capabilityUse Cases
AI Email Assistants: Sort, prioritize, summarize incoming mail without send risk Automation Scripts: Process incoming mail for workflows (e.g., ticket creation, notifications) Third-Party Filters: Advanced spam filtering, categorization services Backup Solutions: Secure mail archiving without send capabilityGreatest security threat is AI agents. Handing the ability to read emails to an agent automatically allows it access to sending mail as well. AI agents should not be able to access SMTP and admin panels just with the credentials to read email.
Quick test implementation opportunity: Implement it in Proton Mail Bridge first. This should be a relatively minor update without impacting the general Protonmail service.

Allow organizational admins to disable mail forwarding
Currently, anyone within an organization could set up mail forwarding and send all their communications to an insecure email, essentially exfiltrating company data. As an organizational admin, I would like to disable this for security reasons. I think this setting could live near the 2fa/mfa settings so that as an admin, I can lock down this functionality.

Allow us to deselect holidays on our country holiday list that we do not want displayed!
Allow me to deselect, or select, depending on default, the holiday's I want to even show up on my calendar. There are plenty of garbage holidays I don't want cluttering up my personal calendar but of course want some to show up that I wish to celebrate or take off work for.

Adding moon phases and equinoxes and solstices to Calendar
I would like to see moon phases represented on calendar by a moon icon, or by the four major phases, perhaps. I would also like to see Equinoxes and Solstices (or Spring begins, Summer begins..., etc.) represented for everyone in their respective regions /countries.

Add right-click option to view received mail in a new window (browser).
It would be helpful to be able to either right-click or double-click on messages in folders in order to have them occupy a different window or tab when using P Mail from a browser.

adding docs directly from proton mail to proton drive
It's good to have the option to add attachment docs directly from proton mail to proton drive using a simple click on the proton mail; since right now I have to download it on my computer or my tablet or my cellphone and then upload it into proton drive to review it, save it or even edit it (if it is docs or sheets).

Each alias needs a signature of its own.
Supposedly this feature was added earlier, but the link to it is nonfunctioning. The user should be able to add a different signature to each alias rather than a single signature for all. If this already exists, please show where and how.

Possibility of defining different time zones for start and ending of event
Time indications on e.g. a flight ticket always refer to the local airport. When adding this event to the calendar, it would be much more convenient to be able to define the time zones for the start and ending of the flight/event. This feature is already included in all other calendars out there

"Upcoming Birthdays" Widget from the Proton Mail App
Currently, the highly requested feature of integrating contact birthdays into the calendar seems delayed, likely due to the technical complexities of Zero-Access Encryption and syncing data between the Contacts and Calendar backends. However, a dedicated client-side solution could solve this issue efficiently for mobile users.
Since the Proton Mail app already decrypts our contacts locally on the device to display the address book, it has access to the birth dates in plain text. My proposal is to build an "Upcoming Birthdays" widget for Android/iOS that is directly tied to the Proton Mail app.How it would work:
Instead of building a complex backend bridge between the Contacts and Calendar servers, this widget would strictly read the locally decrypted state of the Mail app's address book. It would simply scan for upcoming dates and display them directly on the homescreen.Benefits:
No Backend Sync Needed: Bypasses the difficult server-to-server sync completely.
Privacy Intact: Requires zero server communication, maintaining full Zero-Access Encryption.
Huge Quality-of-Life Update: Gives users a practical and permanent way to keep track of important dates without having to duplicate every single birthday manually as a recurring event in Proton Calendar. This client-side approach would be a fast, elegant, and highly appreciated solution for a core feature that many users are currently missing.
