  1. Make it easier to select email without opening it by mistake

when checking an email to delete, too often it opens it and wastes time.
fix so that a check is a check, and an open is clicking on the title, perhaps, but they should be distinct so non-ambiguous.

  2. Improved Folder Options

I have two ideas that I think would be great:

    1) The folder automatically sees all the senders added to the folder and a new option (toggle) allows you to automatically add all of them to a rule that automatically sorts the senders into this folder (a check box could allow all current emails to be sorted in as well as all future emails) - this is automatically updated when a new sender is added to the folder. In settings, you can changed the settings for each folder > sender, for example to allow push notifications for a certain sender…

  3. Simplify thread view

please simplify the view of the emails in a thread view or whatever where more emails can be seen at once. as it stands now, it is a bit hard to navigate in emails one has sent. one can make a branch view where when an email is no longer sent to the same people, it branches off. you could call it branch view. it would be the next big thing and would suit ar glasses too.

  5. Option for product switcher to open local install

Currently in Proton Mail, there is a button which provides access to other proton tools. These tools are in fact shortcuts to the Proton website related to each tool.
The idea should be to evaluate if each tool has been installed localy and call these tools instead of going the the websites.

  9. Customizable view setttings on mobile

Add ability to customize the view of the mailbox on mobile apps, such as changing the width of each email listing; view sender, time received, subject line, and 1st line of email body; show icons from sender instead of the 1st letter of the sender's email address, etc etc

  10. Schedule time for certain incoming emails

Add an option to mail filters that would deliver the mail meeting the filter criteria at a certain date and time. For example, you could set up certain newsletters to only show up on Saturday mornings at 9am.

  11. Display non-archived message count next to folders

I use folders to track the status of emails. Currently I have to mark emails as unread to be able to see how many emails are in a folder. These counts indicate to me that there is something that still needs my attention. I archive emails that no longer need my attention.

I'd like to be able to see the number of non-archived messages in a folder. I see two options for accomplishing this which would both work for me:

    1. Display two counts showing read and unread messages
    2. Have an option where the user chooses whether the counts are for…

  12. AI assistant for emails

I frequently find myself having to rewrite my emails, which can be time-consuming. Currently, I copy and paste the text into a large language model (LLM), typically found online, and use the command "reformulate : ' plus the part of the email that needs it'" before pasting the result back into Proton Mail for formatting adjustments. It would be incredibly convenient if such a feature were integrated directly into Proton Mail itself. A smaller language model like "Mistral 7B" would suffice for enhancing our email compositions significantly.
    Thank you!

  13. Auto-lock with pin after set duration

    Hi,

That suggestion was already done, but many years ago.

I'd like the same auto-lock mechanism than in Proton pass : auto-lock after x minutes and then PIN code required to unlock the session.

  14. Highlight unauthenticated e-mail adress to fight phishing

Just received an e-mail from gov which is a phishing.

It would be much better if unauthenticated e-mail adresses which may have been falsified show like BIG AND RED on the e-mail header.

Moreover, with a falsified authentification, it's surprising to have an e-mail going to the inbox instead of the spambox.

  16. Display folder name

Display the folder name in the reading/writing window. Right now you can only see the containing folder for a message if you have clicked to show only that folder's contents or if you click the "message details" option for the current message. It would be nice to see that info along with the message labels without needed to click something separately.

  17. Set subscriptions per subaccount addresses

I want to be able to receive most of the Email subscriptions but not have those on sub-accounts / member accounts as they don't want them. Currently only the main account owner can set subscriptions, and they may not know the other members of the account can't set that setting.

  18. Disable ability to click email links

When looking at attack vectors the possibility to click on a link is one of the important attack vectors for mail.
I would recommend a optional function where a user can turn off link clicking completely.

Like others suggested you could in addition provide a option where you still allow to copy a link with a button.

Another good suggestion I saw was to highlight the domain within a link

In combination with disabling content loading this will be very effective to mitigating most threats.

Finally you could make a function where users are give the option to scan…

  19. Rule progress indicator (mail X/X mails)

Show a bit more feedback when a rule is being (re)applied. Show which rule is currently processing and how far it is, ex: 'processing 123/888 mails' or a percentage.

  20. Restore Label Location to Right and Shape

Please move labels in the Inbox or List views back to the right; they are and should be secondary to the subject. Users want to see Subjects first. NOT labels. Also please revert the rectangular labels back to the pill-shaped (rounded rectangle) labels. Rectangles take up a LOT of visual emphasis and distract from the more important aspects of the UI (subject, date, etc.), adding to cognitive strain. You've made a lot of UI changes recently and you should allow users to revert some of these extreme, random, and unnecessary changes.
