Can you please release an downloadable apk version for android that doesn't require Google Play?
While I wholeheartedly appreciate everything Protonmail stands for, I can't get past the fact that Protonmail doesn't make available an APK download of it's Email app, exclusive from the Google Play store.
AppsAPK.com is a great site for this purpose and would be advantageous for all android users whom already refuse the use of the Google-Monster's services for privacy and security reasons.
I don't care what Google says-------Google and it's CEO are just as culpable for obfuscating our privacy and true security as are any other greedy corporate entity whom requires users to give up their rights to defend and to protect their personally identifiable information simply for the purpose of patting their ad-partners on the back.
This is intrusive and unacceptable behavior from Google and other corporate thugs whom do the same things. When is enough going to be enough of all this ho-ranging hoopla?!
Just because they can hide behind the already obscure nature of the internet is no excuse for their privacy-violating actions and policies, of which they force upon users because they care more about insane profiteering at our expense by watching, stalking and pilfering everything about us and what we do online.
Someone needs to draw a line that these corporate thugs aren't allowed to cross. They're not going to do it-------so we need a voice of reason amid this crisis to stand up for what is right-------to help us protect our identities from these dictatorial corporate entities hell-bent on eviscerating our rights to privacy.
Google can sugar-coat its policies all they want, but behind the scenes they do the very same things that Microsoft is guilty of regarding this matter of pivotal importance.
Please, we need a fighting chance against these intrusive violations of our personal lives and we aren't going to get it by continuing to use services from the same companies that continue to violate our rights in this regard!
We will add a hosted APK in the future. For now you can find the Android APK here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/protonmail/protonmail-encrypted-email/protonmail-encrypted-email-1-4-1-release/protonmail-encrypted-email-1-4-1-android-apk-download/.

Another vote for adding it to F-Droid and removing the dependencies on Google Play. Please make it happen Team Proton!
Please add the APK on F-DROID !
that makes a lot of sense, google intrusion style of what we want to avoid as Proton users.

While fans of using Android in the car may be more excited by the upcoming launch of Google Assistant Driving Mode, Android Auto is preparing improvements of its own with custom shortcuts to Assistant actions and contacts.
About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we’re able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We’ll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they’ll look in the case that they do ship. With that in mind, read on.
Assistant and contact shortcuts
Today in Android Auto, you can access certain Google Assistant routines such as Calendar and News, which simply run a preset query to which the Assistant responds audibly. In the latest update to Android Auto, version 5.7, https://apkblog.xyz/minecraft-pe-0-15-apk-free-download/ we find that Google is preparing to allow you to save your most common queries for the Google Assistant and make them easily accessible in the launcher.
google, Windows,FB, et al have no idea how many thousands DNL their mindset of "Use our products & we own everything about you." Money is their god & they will go to the ends of the earth to find more $ opportunities. Kind of like the rioters/looters ruining our USA cities. Morality has been hijacked. What a wonderful world it would be if they asked permission to place ads on customers' sites & asked for categories of interests.
what about getting notifications without google services? it has been years already users waiting for this.

Removing dependence on Google Play Services is far more valuable to me than Proton self-hosting the Mail app download. I found it on APK Pure and thought it was cool you guys point to its availability on APK Mirror - but take note of the number of people who find Daryn Hammel's Google Play review of ProtonMail helpful, one of which is me (accessed via web). I use KolabNow which was once touted as a great Swiss-jurisdiction email service, but it lacks end-to-end encryption. I'd love to switch but I can't access Google Play on my recently deGoogled phone. No pressure, but I'd like to add ProtonVPN at the same time and my Kolab yearly subscription renews mid-April 2021 ;)
You have brought up a very wonderful points, thanks for the post.

It would be great (also for free publicity) to push the app through several free/open-source appstores like F-Droid, which provides a great alternative platform for downloading/updating apps, to replace for example Google Play Store

Thanks a lot for APK!
It's incredible that protonmail still doesn't work without google play services, and if you want to use the apk can't receive notification..I like protonmail and support it's policy but for what i need an e-mail that doesn't send me notifications?
Please add the link to the Google Play entry, if possible, so those finding Protonmail (and ProtonVPN) in the Play Store know they have other options for download.

What about e.g. using F-Droid? If ProtonMail is FLOSS then this could be a solution. There are certainly alternatives - https://alternativeto.net/software/f-droid/?license=opensource&platform=android - there might be even better choices than F-Droid.
At the same time - why not just offer .apk on your web? It wouldn't take any effort to just offer .apk at homepage. Certainly using similar apps like F-Droid allows to update all software comfortably in one place.
Thanks for sharing apk files .I found a lot of interesting information here. A really good post, very thankful and hopeful that you will write many more posts like this one.Great websites!
Thank you so much for the information. Very good post
