How can we improve Proton VPN?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

  1. Profiles: Allow selecting multiple servers

    It would be nice to change profiles to add a checkbox beside the servers in the list so we can select multiple servers to put in the profile and leave out others.

    Ex. I would like only Toronto Ontario servers nothing else in one profile.

  2. Blacklist connecting to VPN servers

    I'd like to be able to remove some servers from the list that I can connect to. There are several VPN servers in my state and when I connect I'd rather be out-of-state. I'd like to be able to connect to the fastest server that is not on my black-list.

    Most of the protocols are blocked in Iran
    But V2ray connects well
    If possible, add it to the features of the app

    Android phone app-add widget for quick connection - ability to split tunnel with URL instead of ip address, be able to whitelist or blacklist apps (reverse split tunnel

    Android tv- be able to create multiple favourites, be able to split tunnel apps, be able to search for server locations

    در کشوری مثل ایران که همه چیز فیلتره و امکان پرداخت هم به خاطرتحریم برای
    میسر نیست ازتون خواهش میکنم با اضافه کردن تعداد سرورهای رایگان به ماکمک کنید مردم

  6. سلام دوستان . پروتون را نمی توانم در لپ تاپ باز کنم . شاید بدلیل اینترنت بسیار ضیعیف ایران است .

    پروتون روی گوشی بخوبی کار مینکند اگرچه بسختی . اما علیرغم طی کردن موارد خواسته شده نرم افزار و تائید آن . ولی در لپ تاپ باز نمیشود . تشکر میکنم از گروه شما . ما در ایران امکان خرید نداریم . اینجا همچی سانسور است . مثل برزخ شده ! بمردم ایران کمک کنید تا با امنیت به اخبار دسترسی داشته باشند .

  7. Different region coverage for India other than New Delhi

    India has a wide variety of languages, the most common being Hindi, Telegu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. The connection to New Delhi may be impacted by Netflix restrictions for region-specific phrases in particular. More people watch Indian films in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telegu than in Hindi. So, instead of just connecting to New Delhi, think about connecting to those similar states in India.

    Display the forwarded port number in the quick menu of ProtonVPN in the icon tray.

    Currently, there is only the server name and IP address displayed. Please add the forwarded port number too.

    Please provide Pop!OS gnu/linux support.

    Why: System76 is becoming one of the leading gnu/linux computer providers in the US!

    Note: the following error currently shows when attempting to connect via GUI and CLI:
    “ "Setting up Proton VPN. An unknown error has occured. Please ensure that you have internet connectivity. If the issue persists, please contact support.". I contacted support and the team could not provide any help due to lack of Pop!OS support.

    Here are the currently supported versions as of 20DEC2022:

  11. Disable VPN when on trusted Wifi Connections

    I love ProtonVPN. I use it on my Android phone, and have it installed on my home router to protect all my devices on my home network. When I connect my Android phone to my home wifi network, I would love for my ProtonVPN app to sense the new connection and disconnect it on my phone--so that I only use the mobile app when I'm out in the world on 4G/5G and public wifi connections.

  12. Android override GPS Location

    On Android, as a complement to the VPN it will be spectacular to have an enhacement where the GPS gets override and match the location of VPN location (as an enabled option).

    Ex. apps will think GSP location is same as the VPN location.

  14. Start ProtonVPN minimized in tray (Linux)

    When you open ProtonVPN, and then close it, an applet stays active in the systemtray.
    It would be nice to be able to start only the applet at login.

  15. Control the blocklists used by Netshield for ad blocking

    Please add the ability for users to control the blocklists used by Netshield for ad blocking. Most other tools (such as PiHole, Next DNS etc) allow users to manually:
    1. Specify which blocklists to activate
    2. Add sites to a white list (this is often needed to get newsletter sign-up forms and login forms on subscription and e-commerce sites to work properly)
    3. Add sites to a blacklist (custom blocklist).

  19. ipv6 support

    Please do support IPV6 connectivity (The purpose being to be to establish ipv6 connections through the tunnel)

    (Currently, IPV6 needs to be disabled to use protonVPN otherwise there is ipv6 leakage. As a result, ipv6 connectivity is broken when using protonVPN)

  20. Add ability to exclude country's servers for quick connect

    When I use the Quick Connect feature it always connects to servers in my country (Russia), but in my case, it is useless because I use a VPN to access servers that are blocked in my country. And because of this, the Quick Connect feature becomes totally useless. Could you add an option in preference to exclude servers that are located in the configured countries from quick connect servers?
