  1. Open and edit files directly in the mobile app (Android)

Unfortunately, the Proton Drive Android app is pretty useless.

It's essential that you can also edit files with it.
When a file is opened (e.g., DOCX, XLSX, ODT, ODS, etc.), a suitable installed app should open to view and edit the file. When a change is saved, it should then be synchronized with Drive.

This is how Google Drive and Nextcloud do it. I'm actually shocked that this doesn't work with ProtonDrive.

  2. Allow hiding the user email in Proton Docs to avoid leaking personal data

When sharing a document created in Proton Drive with another person, if the Proton user makes a comment, the original email of the account e.g., user@protonmail.com is leaked. This is a problem in my view, particularly when an inbox has multiple aliases and domains and the user does not want to leak their personal Proton email. Please allow users to hide this information altogether when sharing documents or at least choose which alias to display. Thanks.

  3. I'd like to share a photoalbum.

I'm a hobby-photographer and i mainly bought proton drive to share pictures.
The problem is, when uploading pictures as files, i can share them, but i can not view a prewiev on my phone, without having to download them. On the other side, when i upload them as pictures, i can not share them easily with friends. I want to share a link, from which they can view and download the pictures, without having to create an account on proton.

This is just stupid and should not be that hard.

  4. Proton Docs: download to docx and PDF does not work properly, format is messed up

The formatting in Proton Docs looks beautiful, however as soon as I export it to docx, the formatting is messed up.
Also, with the download to PDF the format is changed (puts content on 2 pages even though there would be enough space on one). I would expect the format to stay exactly as I see it in the Proton Docs when I export it.
Therefore, it's not usable for printing a doc / exporting a doc. Currently, it's not an option to completely change to Proton Docs.

  5. Link sharing: Add "Request Access" Approval for Shared Links (Google Drive-style)

Please add a "Request Access / Manual Approval" option for shared links in Proton Drive.

    How it should work:
When someone clicks a shared link, they cannot immediately access the file / folder.
Instead, they see a button like "Request Access."
The owner receives a notification and can approve or deny each request, tied to the requester's email address.

    Why this matters:
Prevents link leaks. Even if the URL is forwarded, only approved people get access.
Gives owners more granular control, without relying only on passwords or expiry dates.
Matches a feature users are already familiar with from Google Drive,…

  6. Incremental backup

It would be good if the photo backup could be set to only backup new photos rather than all photos every time. Backing up 7800+ photos every time takes forever

  7. Backup Option to Tresorit (and possible to other secure clouds)

I am using Proton Drive and TresorIt for redundancy. I would love to have way to backup a folder on Proton Drive to TresorIt. Ideally automatically.

  8. Improvement in Proton docs and version history

I love how Proton Docs automatically keeps a version history of every change we make to a document. It would be great to give users the option to set the time interval for creating new versions for example, after each edit, after 1 minute, after 2 minutes, and so on.

Currently, when I start a new document, each word I type generates a separate version. This quickly becomes overwhelming, making it hard to scroll back to a useful point in the history. While frequent versioning makes sense during focused editing such as correcting a document someone else sent or making deliberate revisions, it feels unnecessary…

  9. Fix the Disk Usage in Proton Drive

The usage estimate in the web application of proton drive is still buggy. It shows much higher than what I have in my drive. I saw a reddit post about this that was posted 3 years ago, I don't know if it is already fixed and is an issue with my side of the application.

  10. Application folder with an API

Have something similar to the Apps folder on Onedrive. Where Proton Drive has an API for applications that can automatically sync to. But by only having the applications folder have an API it keeps the rest of the Drive secure.

  12. See favorite photos in an album

It would be incredibly useful if I could, within an album view, filter to just the photos I've liked/favorited. I take a lot of duplicate photos, so it's hard to tell at a glance which ones are the "good" photos for a particular trip.

  13. Add support for exFAT filesystem

Proton Drive appears to only support NTFS, APFS. Incredibly frustrating to learn that the drive I'd like to use for backups isn't compatible with the service I've paid for due to the filesystem not being supported; exFAT is a fairly common cross-platform filesystem for external drives and is super useful for those going between operating systems and devices.

  15. Photo deduplication feature

The Drive does not mind importing photos multiple times, even though being advertised differently.
    Examples:
    - exact same name, created date, but different last modified date => 2 copies.
    - modified photo on iPhone => 2 copies (not 1 photo with two different states)
    - importing the same photo from multiple sources => multiple copies

This is driving me crazy, as I want to have a single version of a single photo and don't want to waste my time merging etc. The switch to Proton was supposed to be simple.

  16. Rsync compatibility

Enable rsync compatibility with Proton Drive to allow Linux users to sync files and directories for cloud backup. This should be a core feature of any cloud storage solution and makes Proton an unappealing ecosystem on Linux.

  17. Create dedicated photo app

I know that the current plan is to fully integrate the photos feature into the Proton Drive app.
However, I think it would be more logical to have a dedicated app for photos and one for documents in general. With combined apps, I fear that the app either gets overloaded or features will be missing because it would get too crowded otherwise. The photos app also needs wayy better performance than the current app (at least on android, the photos feature is very slow and misses a lot of crucial features, like face detection, editing or a map to show…

  18. Proton Scribe in Proton Docs

I recently upgraded to Proton Duo purely to get access to Proton Scribe. I just assumed it would be built into both the email client and Proton Docs but now see this is sadly not the case.

Given how tech and office environments are developing, including this functionality is arguably already critical to keep Proton docs competitive and attractive to users.

Please consider adding a Proton Scribe feature in Proton Docs -- it would hugely simplify and improve my work, and I'm sure that of many others.

  19. Auto trim Trash item older the XX days

Compared to other Web Drive providers, Proton Drive lacks a feature where items whose 'Deleted Time' exceeds a certain threshold (i.e. 30 days) get automatically deleted by the system.
There are a number of reasons as to why this might be so. One possible reason could be that, due to data encryption on Proton's side, they cannot view certain metadata of the file, such as its 'Deleted Time'. This would then exclude any attempts by the server to perform housekeeping duties.

The solution is to move the deletion routine into the user clients instead. All the server has to do…

  20. Speed up downloads from Proton Drive using shared links

I've shared a folder that was about 337 MB using a share link. The downloads are abysmally slow at 47.83 KB/s to 185.54 KB/s. Then the download fails at less than a third of the way through.

I'm on a paid plan. Replicated with the person whom I shared the folder. Both of us can't download it.

Both of us are on different high bandwidth fiber internet plans and have no issues with other content.
