I would appreciate a linux proton drive client greatly.

Absolutely needed. I am switching to Proton, ditching Microsoft and Google completely, I need a way to easily backup Linux and to automatically backup using TrueNAS cloud backups.

Particularly in the US right now.

How is it possible for a company whose business model is based on privacy and data security to make such a stupid show of contempt for the community that cares most about privacy? It is a real shot in the foot for the future of this company. Linux users are undoubtedly the most concerned about privacy and the most enthusiastic defenders of the goodness of those principles. What makes a company that wants to be truly competitive disregard such an important resource? I don't understand it.

I can only second what everyone here says. If there were a Linux client for Proton Drive, I would completely switch to the Proton ecosystem. I can't grasp why a privacy and open-source-minded company doesn't support Linux for all their products.

Hi there :) I really very much need a Linux client. Your ecosystem is excellent, but Linux support is an absolute must, and I really don't want to be paying extra money to a third party simply to get my files syncing on Linux. This is somewhat ridiculous. It is ceretainly worth considering that Linux users, as users of F/OSS, are often some of the most vocal proponents of privacy-supporting software and companies. So despite the apparently-small userbase, you are missing out on an important and noisy market sector! Additionally, if you don't provide Linux support in your sync client, then your users will be forced to not use Linux in their daily lives, and therefore your stats will rarely show you that they would be, in fact, Linux users, if they had the opportunity. A very literal selection bias!

In this current global political and big-tech-behemoth climate, there are millions of regular folk stepping onto the path to de-Google and de-corporate themselves. People are moving away from google-etc, and looking for privacy-centric solutions, open source solutions, decentralised, etc etc. You know this already. Well a lot of people are checking out Linux these days, and also a lot of die-hard gamers are transitioning to SteamOS, and some of these people will be Proton users too (haha actually SteamOS uses the other Proton for gaming compatility 😂). And, imagine if you could support the ChromeBook users who are branching out and de-Googling themselves! Wouldn't that be something.

To stage a real coup, it is VITAL that you support Linux. And we NEED this coup to dethrone the giant behemoth technocratic corporations who are currently basically controlling the world. This is no hyperbole.

Hello. I have a paid account with Proton since a few days and am intending to move away from Dropbox. My primary computer is running Linux. I used Dropbox to back up files but also to share folders with family and friends. I cannot understand why Proton is not offering a true bi-directional sync solution for Linux. Proton says that it is committed to freedom , opensource and security. These values are also one the main reasons why people use Linux so it seems to me self-evident that Proton should support the Linux community.

I use Linux on my laptop and server. A client, CLI or GUI, would be of great benefit so I can properly utilize the cloud storage that comes with my plan.

Please, Linux client is needed....Look what insync did.

I have been a long-time fan and paying custumor of the Proton initiative and I understand that choices have to be made in development, but I don't understand that the Linux community is being completely ignored here. Proton Drive is useless if it can only be used through a browser.

A desktop client for Linux is sorely needed, I use Proton mail and Proton pass, but I used Proton Drive for a while and then I stopped using it, due to the lack of a desktop client for Linux and I switched to Dropbox for the ease of the desktop client, I hope the Proton people make one soon so I can stop using Dropbox.

I have been a proton user for several months now, and I am very impressed with their suite of services. That being said, as a Linux user Proton Drive is largely useless to me due to the lack of a native Linux client. Proton, please prioritize this! The Linux community NEEDS this! As soon as this is available, I will happily upgrade my account to Proton Unlimited and take full advantage of Proton's services.

I'll throw my vote in for a Linux client. Even a CLI version would be great! Seems to have been an ask for a very long time. Proton?

A Linux client would make it possible for me to actually use Proton Drive. I recently paid for a subscription and was excited to have 500 GB at my disposal, but the only computers I have are a desktop running Linux Mint, and a very old netbook that runs Windows 10 but apparently a version that can't run the Proton Drive Windows client. Otherwise, my only access to Drive is through a browser, which is really not ideal. I'm very disappointed.

My subscription renewed in December 2024. I have been waiting for this feature since I signed up in like 2021 or whenever. if there is no client by 2026 I will cancel my subscription. This is the second most upvoted issue. What the ****, Proton?

rclone is working for me, but the first use after a long interval does give warnings:

FYI - As of 2/2/25 ProtonDrive DOES NOT WORK with rclone. I have tested it on three different linux distributions and Proton blocks the "malicious traffic" every time.
