Proton Photos
basically Google photos, but better because it's encrypted.
As in, a mobile app for backing up and organizing phone photos.
Maybe we could pay a monthly fee for access to Photos, Drive, and VPN service. I'd much rather support an independent company than Google

It's great to have a photo backup. But I can't acces them from my computer with Proton Drive. Why is it not integrated in the Proton Drive program for Windows? I want to organize my pictures on the computer rater then on a web page.

Can you create a separate Proton Photos instead of being under Proton Drive? The best idea is to partner with Ente or acquire them. They are doing a great job and a great alternative to Google Photos. I'm all in into Proton, but need to pay Ente as your Photos app is far from enough.

Separate Photos from Proton Drive, creating a standalone service called Proton Photos, with its own respective apps.

Proton can say how serious they are about people leaving Google all they want, but if they aren't going to release an actual Google Photos alternative, then all they're doing is keeping people on Googles infrastructure and in many cases keeping them from switching to Proton's.
It's a complete joke that there is no "Proton Photos" app. This should be priority No. 1. Proton Drive is NOT a suitable alternative. It's not even a reasonable option.

Actually, what could really up the game here is a Proton photo app for Photos and Videos that automatically has a duplicate - cleaner service in it. The ability to tag/ like/ photos according to user face recognition/ gps location I am not sure how that could work with the privacy encryption but could be an optional section within the app. Just to make it easier to find/ catalog and tag pictures and remove duplicate pictures all in one. I can't think of anyone having implemented a duplicate/ similar picture- video cleaner in app.

Ok but what about a separate app just for photos? separated from the main Drive? where we can like and group photos like in iphoto?

To have a new ProtonPhotos app would be fantastic. Drive is cool for photos but doens't offer the possibility to like pictures/ categorize them and acess them. An encrypted vault inside of ProtonPhoto would be fantastic too

USER STORY: As a Proton Visonary user, I'd like to have a Photos App (similar to Google Photos) that houses all of our photos (with the option to turn off metadata filtering/searching) so that we can manage our library of photos (to tag by face, location, or other metadata).

..or at least make it easier to view photos on a shared Proton Drive link, instead of having to click the 3 dots and then chose preview.

I agree with many of the comments below.
There should be a separate photos app if possible and the photos should be accessible as a folder within Drive.
Also, please give us the option to create albums, add searching functionalities, ...
Keep up the great work! -

It would definitely be the killer application for proton unlimited! On drive it's a good start but something similar to google photos or ente.io would be a game changer

Proton, "Proton Drive photo backup" is not what we want nor need. We need a dedicated app for photos. They can, or not, be compressed (up to the user). The app needs to be able to search photos based on GPS location or keywords of things that are found in the photo (up to the user to enable context recognition or as an extra paid feature).

I would very much like this as I've freed myself from Google Photos but still tend to have to go to where they are stored on my SDcard to see everything.

But removing meta data is an absolutely terrible Idea, metadata is a "Must have" to keep for me. -

The Photos app really needs an on-device AI search that makes it easy to find specific photos based on their content, date, tags, albums, or even location metadata. It should also have a feature to find similar photos, like JottaCloud does, so you can quickly pull up that product photo you took months ago in a store or that hilarious memory you want to show a friend. The AI should respect privacy by using pre-trained models that don’t rely on user data. Plus, the app needs to load photos fast and have a simple, clean design that helps you easily find what you’re looking for—even in a huge library. The app should also have the option to delete photos that have already been uploaded from your phone.

Proton, what you said is NOT what we want!
We want either a standalone "Proton Photos" app just like Google Photos OR adapt Proton Drive to have a section that behaves like Google Photos where we have albums and correlate to what's on our computers and phones, where you can search photos by date or tags, and scroll down the photos. We need something like Google Photos or Ente ASAP!

It would be useful to have an application for Windows, because every time I go to the site and download photos to my Windows disk!

Want men to buy Visionary?
Proton Photos needs major upgrade to look more like Google Photos or Ente Photos.
