I've been using Ente for close to a year now for this exact reason. Excellent G Photos alternative. But if Proton would build their own photos app (or acquire one, like Ente) I'd switch tomorrow and keep my entire infrastructure on Proton. The importance of a "Proton Photos" cannot be understated.

Hi everyone,
The Proton Drive photo backup for Android and iOS is already out.
Please see the announcements for:
iOS: https://proton.me/blog/proton-drive-photo-backup-ios
Android: https://proton.me/blog/proton-drive-photo-backup-android
We'll continue working on developing more functionalities to help you protect your most precious memories. Thanks for your continuous support!

Having a photos back up in Proton Drive doesn't really serve much of a purpose. We need a Google Photos replacement. I'd migrate literally tomorrow if the Proton team released one. A simple photo dump backup option just isn't good enough. Proton needs to have a full-fledged Google Photos alternative, because that's one of the biggest ways to get people off of Google's services. Right now, if you're not on Apple's photos then you're on Google Photos and that's a ton of users on both platforms that don't have any other trusted options.
Please create a Google Photos alternative. It's massively important, and that importance cannot be understated and underestimated.

This is a MASSIVE must-have to help users get completely off Google. The photo backup in Proton Drive is great, but not being able to leave Google Photos because Proton doesn't offer an app that can be our default gallery, is a big issue. I'd leave Google Photos and migrate to "Proton Photos" in 5 minutes if this were available.
I wish I could vote for this 100x over because it's the final nail in the coffin for me (and probably others) using any of Google's services.

Proton can say how serious they are about people leaving Google all they want, but if they aren't going to release an actual Google Photos alternative, then all they're doing is keeping people on Googles infrastructure and in many cases keeping them from switching to Proton's.
It's a complete joke that there is no "Proton Photos" app. This should be priority No. 1. Proton Drive is NOT a suitable alternative. It's not even a reasonable option.
