Shortcut Items (symbolic link or hard link) for Proton Drive
I'm using Google Drive along with Proton Drive and find Proton Drive missing a feature that I think is useful.
Google Drive has a feature called 'Create shortcut', it seems creating a symbolic link (not hard link) to another location.
The problem is when organizing my data, sometimes I see that some items should be at different locations and they're the same things.

Add Files via Email
Previously, I was using SecureSafe, which had a useful feature: it allowed us to add a file to our drive simply by sending an email.

Warn/prohibit use of filenames incompatible with filesystems commonly used on Windows, macOS, Linux.
Currently Proton drive does not warn when files saved, e.g. in macOS, have filenames incompatible with Windows filesystems. It would be greatly appreciated if a user was warned before the conflict arise when trying to check synchronisation in a different OS.

Link sharing: Add "Request Access" Approval for Shared Links (Google Drive-style)
Please add a "Request Access / Manual Approval" option for shared links in Proton Drive.
How it should work:
When someone clicks a shared link, they cannot immediately access the file / folder.
Instead, they see a button like "Request Access."
The owner receives a notification and can approve or deny each request, tied to the requester's email address. Why this matters:
Prevents link leaks. Even if the URL is forwarded, only approved people get access.
Gives owners more granular control, without relying only on passwords or expiry dates.
Matches a feature users are already familiar with from Google Drive, making migration easier.Optional enhancements:
Let owners revoke individual approvals later.
Combine with existing Proton Drive features like link expiry and passwords for layered security.
Allow domain restrictions (e.g. only @company.com accounts). This would give Proton Drive one of the strongest and most user-friendly access control systems in the privacy-focused cloud market.

Granular backups
we need ability to ignore files by type, name, or if they're in a specific directory that can be matched by name or some kind of regex. it is really annoying that some games have shader caches in Documents folder and it keeps backing these up- filling my trash can with a Terabyte of poo that I have to clean to recover my space.

Implement Preview for Excel and PowerPoint
A preview function for Excel and PowerPoint documents would be very helpful for Drive Online users. Often a glance at the file, e.g. work schedule, would be sufficient and no download/editing is necessary.

Add support for exFAT filesystem
Proton Drive appears to only support NTFS, APFS. Incredibly frustrating to learn that the drive I'd like to use for backups isn't compatible with the service I've paid for due to the filesystem not being supported; exFAT is a fairly common cross-platform filesystem for external drives and is super useful for those going between operating systems and devices.

High Importance: Sign Documents Feature Inside Drive and Shared Folders
Hoping to have the ability to turn documents into PDFs that can then be signed, a signing feature on the drive between shared documents. We enjoy using Proton and believe it is the future for encryption standards. We are team Proton, please help us help you grow! -

Better way for bulk uploading/downloading
It is currently very challenging to upload large amounts of data into Proton Drive. I have some data that I want to back up into the cloud, which currently sits on an external drive. The Proton Drive desktop app will not accept the folders on the external drive for backup (presumably because it is not an internal drive), and uploading via the web interface is extremely unreliable unless you manually do it in small chunks, which is tedious.
Would it be possible to add a function to the desktop app to copy large amounts of data into Proton Drive or copy it out of Proton Drive in a single operation? Meaning not setting up sync between local and cloud folders, but rather a one-time upload/download of selected folder(s) to/from a specific location.
This could be a very easy-to-implement feature since all the core logic already exists, but it could increase the utility for users immensely.

Share folders and files with admin rights
Currently you can only share files with other email addresses as viewer or editor.
You should be able to share as admin with full rights: sharing, moving, deleting, ...
This goes for folders as well.7 votes -
Some way to know my work on a doc is saved
I need to know that my changes have been saved before I close out of a document. Like neat little blue or green checkmark in a corner next to the word "Saved". Thanks.

Local cache
Other cloud providers have a local cache that you can set the size of, that just retains your most recently opened files so you're not having to re-download them every time you open them. I realise you can set specific files or folders to be available locally, but it's a pain having to do this when you have lots of different files (drawing files is what I'm thinking of) with large (GB) attachments. With a cache they're just available while actively working with them, and then they eventually get pushed back off the local drive when you're no longer opening them again.

Automatic Substitute Feature
A feature where we can manually add substitutions. For example, I like to use em dashes in my writing (—) but it's difficult to do on my regular keyboard, so I used the substitute feature in the other docs I use to automatically substitute "--" to "—" and use it with other things, too, like adding accented letters automatically onto names (turning eon to éon for example). I know there are keyboards out there that can do it, but I've never been able to find one that works conveniently enough for my writing, and this is a relatively minor but SUPER helpful feature.

Speed up downloads from Proton Drive using shared links
I've shared a folder that was about 337 MB using a share link. The downloads are abysmally slow at 47.83 KB/s to 185.54 KB/s. Then the download fails at less than a third of the way through.
I'm on a paid plan. Replicated with the person whom I shared the folder. Both of us can't download it.
Both of us are on different high bandwidth fiber internet plans and have no issues with other content.
