Would love a .gitignore-like feature for file sync
I’d love to have a gitignore-style ignore file when syncing a folder from a computer. It would make it easy to exclude certain files or subfolders from being synced useful in cases like development folders where some content (temporary files) doesn’t need to be uploaded.
I'm considering moving away from GitHub for my personal projects I’d prefer not to store them there anymore. But right now, I don’t have a better solution that keeps everything in sync while letting me exclude unnecessary files. That’s why a feature like this would really help.
Apologies if this isn’t in line with the intended direction or if such a request already exists. I haven’t seen it, but thought I’d share the idea just in case.

Start Drive sync while 'preparing'
Apologies, not sure if "new feature" or 'change to existing feature'.
Setting up Proton Drive on a new machine or after a re-format - it spends HOURS "Setting up... (x items prepared for sync)" before it actually starts syncing.
Why can't it start syncing what is already 'prepared' while figuring out the rest? Would be a HUGE QoL improvement for users and save a TON of time getting people up and running.

Add a Cheaper/Smaller plan
Add a cheaper and smaller plan for proton Drive for people that do not need as much space but want to pay for the service to help with the privacy mission. Maybe a dollar a month for 30GB or 50GB to compete with a similar option that iCloud offers.

Make docs formatting dropdowns on mobile app more stable
I'm so glad to see more formatting features showing up. On my android, when I go to select a formatting feature, I have to hold down my finger on it and then select it. Otherwise, the dropdown disappears without me being able to select the formatting feature. Thanks.

Option to allow/not allow editors, viewers, and commenters to copy or change permissions
I want to know that when I share something, I can make sure it isn't shared or copied and that other people don't change permissions on it without my consent. I think that unlike on Google Docs, the default should be to not allow copying, sharing, and changing permissions. A lot of Google Docs users don't know about the setting and don't know that their work can be shared or used unless they change the setting. Thanks.

Better icons understanding on Mac (synchro, offline, cloud)
I cant understand icons on my virtual proton drive on osx, some files have a little cloud with an arrow going down, some have nothing .. for a short time I got all my files with a simple cloud without arrow (meaning everything online?)
Actually everything is synchronized and nothing is on my local drive, so I guess there is some kind of problem with Mac UI ... I only see files and folder with cloud + down arrow or no icons at all.
It would be nice to speed up large amount of little sized files upload too, but I think this is in progress (as I read on the blog)
thanks

Be able to edit files using local apps and store back to Protondrive
Would be nice to be able to work with files directly in protondrive (in essence have protondrive as a folder on my computer). So I can open the files and save them back to PD.

Improve swipe down gesture
When viewing a photo on Proton Drive, the swipe down gesture to return to the Photo's Home Page requires a long and precise swipe. On my iPhone 13 Pro Max, this is difficult because my thumb cannot comfortably reach the required distance.
But on my iOS's Photos app, I do not have this problem and I can comfortably swipe to go back to the next/previous photo or return to the default view with a minimal gesture

Uploading in the iOS application
It's unacceptable and extremely annoying that you can only select and upload a maximum of 10 files at a time on iOS. Android offers so many more options. Please change this urgently. It's such a huge hindrance.

Saved and existing images in the cloud
Images that have already been uploaded to the cloud should then be clearly visible under Photos. If you have many folders with images in the cloud, they should be organized and visible as albums under Photos. Otherwise, the feature is useless for many people.

Upload by command line.

I should point out that I appreciate the ergonomics of the current interface, but I would appreciate being able to synchronise certain important documents more quickly and automatically.

Option to Opt-In for File Recovery Without Recovery Key
I would like to propose an idea for an option that allows users to opt-in for the recovery of previously encrypted files without needing a recovery key, similar to features available in services like Google Drive and OneDrive. This is especially helpful for users who may have lost their recovery key or forgotten their password.
Details:Background:
Currently, if a user forgets their password and loses their recovery key, they are unable to regain access to their previously encrypted files. This situation can be critical if there is no backup of important files.
Proposed Solution:Introduce an opt-in feature during account setup or within settings that allows users to choose whether they want Proton Drive to store an encrypted backup of their files. This backup could be accessed upon account recovery.
Benefits:Provides users with a safety net in case they lose their recovery key, akin to practices from other cloud services that ensure continuity of access to user files after account recovery.
Offers users the flexibility to balance between security and recoverability based on their personal needs.
Security Considerations:Clearly communicate the risks associated with choosing this option, such as potential vulnerabilities. Given that my account is secured with two-factor authentication, I am confident in the safety of my files and believe I should have an option to recover them even without the recovery key.
Personal Experience:
As a user, I recently encountered a situation where I lost access to important files due to a forgotten password and lost recovery key. This feature would significantly mitigate such risks in the future.Thank you for considering this idea to enhance user experience and provide more flexible recovery options.

Add "open preview in new tab" option for files in Drive.
Currently, when I'm viewing files in a folder (using my browser), let's say pdfs, double-clicking one will open the file preview in that tab. Occasionally, I might want to open multiple files and view them side by side (or in adjacent tabs), but there's no way to open any individual file "in a new tab", which means I have to open a new blank tab, go to Proton Drive, navigate my way through my folders to the file I want, and open the preview for the next file. And I have to do that for each and every file I want to view. This is inconvenient and simply infeasible if there are several files I want to view. Please allow us to "open file in new tab" (or "view preview in new tab") so I can keep one tab my folder tab! Thank you.

Allow creating folder-pairs to sync
Allow us to define folder-pairs such that user can select one folder in the local device to pair with a folder on the cloud storage and sync the two, either unidirectionally, or bidirectionally.
This will allow users great flexibility in defining what folders/files they want to sync across their various machines.
Examples of where this has been done effectively: OneSync app on Android, DropSync app on Android.

Add OPDS feature to Drive
The Open Publication Distribution System (OPDS) is an open standard that allows content servers to syndicate their publications, like e-books and comics, in a catalog format. This enables reader applications on devices like iPads and Android tablets to directly browse, download, and sync content from a remote library. I propose that Proton Drive implement OPDS support, allowing users to generate a secure OPDS feed for any specified folder.
This would function similarly to how many reader apps currently integrate with Dropbox or Google Drive. A user could simply right-click a folder (e.g., "My E-Books"), generate a unique OPDS URL with secure credentials, and plug it into their favorite OPDS-compatible reader app. Implementing this feature would be a significant strategic win. It would immediately close a major functional gap with competitors, making Proton Drive a feature-complete, private alternative for the large community of users who manage digital libraries. This transforms the service from a simple file vault into an active, integrated part of a user's daily life, dramatically increasing ecosystem stickiness.
