"Unlimited" customer here. I use Linux for home and work.

Please add a Proton Drive Linux client. Similar to "Dropbox for Linux" (which just "works" and is quite unobtrusive). "Proton Drive" has no value for me without Linux support.

This feature has over 5000 votes and 72 pages of comments going back to 2020. From what I can see, this is by far the most requested feature by something like 3000 votes.

Please also consider that more and more people are moving to Linux from Windows (to avoid AI and ads), and towards EU services. Proton Drive is unusable on Linux without a native client able to do background synchronization.

Please make it and maintain it - don't bet on someone else making it once you finish the SDK (https://proton.me/blog/proton-drive-sdk-preview). It's more important than that. :)

To leave Windows entirely this absolutely necessary. For a privacy focused company this should be absolutely obvious

Just signed up for a duo subscription as part of an effort to become less dependent on US solutions which I believe is a common desire for many new Protonmail users.
This ties into a wish to move to Linux (mostly because windows with win11 is deterioating as an OS, but also a dependency on MS), so discovering the lack of Linux support for proton drive is a setback. I'm considering whether to cancel my new subscription. Happy with the solutions overall.

I have a proton duo account and will definitely LEAVE if there is no linux support within the next year. It is unacceptable for a privacy focused cloud service, at least provide an official API if you don't have the resources for a client right now

Id love a linux native app, cuz sometimes uploading big files from my browser on my unixen pc, fails. I also have pcloud , infomaniak drive, they have Linux client and i never have this sort of problem with them. Also a client with linux means better integration with the distros!. Looking forward to this.

I'm a fairly new proton user. I'm trying to switch from google and microsoft to proton. I'm very disappointed by the lack of a native linux app. In addition, rclone is not working smoothly at all (issues with account security, i.e. no possibility of filing out captcha - obviously - on the command line).
If this isn't solved soon, I'm ending my subscription.

I've been using proton since it's launch. At the start it was great because it only had email and I'm used to checking my email on the browser. But then you decided to expand and create new plans, but it's absolutely ridiculous that you talk so much about being a better alternative to companies like google and microsoft while not having good linux support for something as important as a drive. I may have understood it in the past, but now I've been seeing a big exodus of windows users changing to linux for the first time and all those users are your main target audience so it makes absolutely no sense to me that a privacy focused company during a big windows exodus doesn't support linux. If it seems like a bid task then start small, start with just debian since it's the easiest one

Proton Family subscriber here, trying to move everything away from microsoft for whole family, and the one thing preventing this is not having a Linux client for Proton Drive. It just seems crazy that this one feature stands in the way of escaping the clutches of microsoft.

Seems there are many, many Proton supporters in the same boat.

Please Proton, we really need this.

I finally gave up on Proton all together. The Proton Drive I used (MacOS) was difficult to use, very slow, etc. My subscription was almost up (Unlimited) and I jumped ship to more best-of-breed solutions.

For people that need a very good sync solution, check out Filen (Filen.io). It syncs the local folder that you choose and is very stable, predictable and super fast.

I might have stayed with Proton had it not been for their obvious neglect of creating a Proton Drive Linux solultion. As Davo said, it's just insulting.

Hey, it's time again for my periodic and futile Proton Drive rant!

Five years, four months after someone first submitted this idea we still have no Proton Drive sync client for Linux.

I have about 75 GB of photos and data that I would love to store E2E encrypted in Proton Drive, but as a Linux user I only have a manual, web-based interface with which to attempt this. So I gave it a try. After 24 hours of uploading, letting the system run overnight, I was about 20% finished (with about 12,000 "failed upload" notices), so I gave up. For my use case, there is not yet an acceptable Linux solution here.

If you have a handfull of documents, Linux users may be able to upload them successfully to their Drive account via the web. If you use the Android or iOS app, they'll keep your photos nicely sync'd to the cloud. Yay! But, again, if you use Linux you're decidedly a second-class citizen on the desktop.

Proton says they have assigned their Linux developers to ProtonVPN, due to all the totalitarian maneuvering on the interwebs these days. Fair enough, though perhaps there are more Linux developers in the world who could be hired? Maybe?

At the very least, a number of other companies -- even some based in Switzerland -- have solved the Linux sync issue, so this is kind of inexplicable to me. (BTW, a sync of my data to pCloud -- albeit not E2E encrypted, which is a significant issue to be fair -- takes an hour or so. But pCloud offers a Linux client and has for years.)

I currently have a Duo account with my wife, but when it comes due for renewal I'll be looking at downgrading my Proton involvement. I can't use all their services -- really, Mail and VPN are the only important ones in my workflow. But besides that I am clearly not their target audience. And at this point, I just feel insulted.

I am trying to demicrosoft my computer environment. I successfully moved to Linux Mint, and the only remaining thing is Onedrive. In Linux Mint, there is a workaround to boot up Onedrive, but there is no easy and userfriendly way to boot up ProtonDrive. I know that eventually someone will make this happen with a community developed app, but given that Proton is trying to lead the way and keep cloud computing in Europe and keep it local etc, its time they provide native support for Linux environments.

There are no more excuses to begin truly supporting users who are trying to transition away from the microsoft stronghold.

I really would like to have a native Proton Drive for Linux. It's actually the only thing that is holding me up from switching completely to Linux....

Please prioritize it! I have been waiting for a year now!

I think it is unbelievable that they spend money on creating a crypto wallet (total waste of money) and an AI (which is still rather new, so I can forgive them that it isn't actually useful yet), but can't pay anyone to make a Proton Drive Linux Cllient.

Paid subscriber, Made the move away from google and microsoft, totally surprised there's no linux client for proton drive, would hope it's a top priority considering the exodus. VPN is compatible :)
So odd considering Linux seems to be the OS of choice for the security/data sovereignty conscious, would have though all the app were linux first :P
Moving family towards linux mint, having a fully compatible cloud provider would be ideal.

I love Proton and and use a lot of their services as a good privacy alternative Microsoft, Google, etc. As a lot of other Proton users, I use linux. Therefore, we need an official client to proton drive on linux.

I recently migrated to Linux for multiple reasons, and the Proton services could allow me to leave Microsoft and Google services... if I could replace Onedrive with Proton Drive.

Just adding my 2 cents. I've been a Proton customer for years. I made the move to linux about a year ago. Having a linux client for Proton Drive is very important to me.

The lack of Proton Drive client for Linux a complete shame, in particular after so many years... What is the point of Proton products if it has to run on Windows or Mac OSX???

I really do not understand how it is possible that Proton does not give the top priority to that critically missing product rather than promoting other less needed features every weeks... And frustration from its Linux users is growing...

I have been with Proton going on my 3rd year, and from day 1 I have been looking for the sync app for Linux, still nothing?? It has been long enough, please at least get us a beta. i don't care if it crashes some times or is slow, we need something!
