Proton mobile operating system (OS)
I want to see Proton tie up with mobile manufacturers to create their own mobile operating system thus giving stiff competition to google and apple.

Yes, Proton OS would help us to liberate ourselves from the Google ecosystem.
I highly support an OS free of Google tracking.
In fact, if they make an OS to be used in Virtual Environment would be a plus point.
Something similar to the Citrix Virtual Desktop...
I have linked to a page that imparts knowledge to you about Citrix Virtual Desktop.
Here it is https://www.clouddesktoponline.com/citrix-xen-desktop/ -

I second your idea too. They should make their own OS to support the cause of privacy and security.
Proton guys should come up with an OS that solves the problem of Android for once and for all. -

While I agree there is a serious problem I don't see a practical solution.
BlackBerry's infrastructure and devices were far more private and useful than google and Android. But BlackBerry is dead.
Sheeple are eager and willing to embrace the surveilance society in exchange for making their lives easier. Do you know anybody who doesn't have Android TV or Apple with Siri? All the sheeple in the world willingly give up all their privacy for convenience. Sick, but no way to fight it.
The problem is apps. If nobody supports private apps you will not be able to rent a car or a motel room, buy tickets to a concert etc. It's game over, folks. The only thing we can do privately is calls and emails. Ecommerce is a security and privacy nightmare that is out of control.

GrapheneOS is awesome if you can find the right FOSS apps that will work for you. Alternately you can install a custom ROM without Google apps and use microG to spoof Google, so you still have a decent user experience on your phone. Lots of info on XDA Developers to help you with this.

Bad idea. No need to strech scarce dev resources on something which requires are BIG effort to do right.

this is why they label their comments link as "Dreams". they need to focus on what theyre good at, and thats secure email and VPN, not an entire OS. just use Tails and Tor for your webbrowsing, CCleaner on top of that top keep your harddrive clean, ect. do some research people. most of what you're suggesting is already out there.

While this is a cool idea, as a Product guy, I can say it's better for us all if Proton focuses on the tools they're already building. Make the Mail and Calendar products top of the class solutions. An OS would be an enormous drain on the organization.

I would not rally around protonmail to solve this particular problem. We should be supporting efforts like postmarketOS and mobile NixOS. PinePhone is the way forward! :)

Have a look at Ubuntu Touch and Pinephone, they are open source and privacy focused but just need some help with development.

Yes, Please. I am an embedded developer, and I am ready to help.

I think it is best to help with the development of Ubuntu Touch or any other Linux distro for smartphones.

Just use GrapheneOS. So good it's endorsed by Ed Snowden.

Absurd. Even Microsoft failed in trying to achieve this.

Dont agree.
Both mozilla and cyanogenmod did that but failed
I hope may be someone pickup FirefoxOS and maintain it. -

So far I understand Proton's core business relies on two services for now:
. Secure e-mail
. Secure Virtual Private Networks (VPN)where "secure" means anti-bigbrother.
This means that the development of a smartphone/tablet only operating system would be really far away from their business targets.
Anyway... who knows? I wouldn't consider this feasible for now.
The Android related big hw companies aren't willing to make things simple for its customers at modifying their devices at OS level.
This means that apart from a minor number of technology passioned fellows, people without knowledge are indeed not enabled to change in their devices in any simple way the operating system and its radicated bigbrother attitudes. So the only solution to this seems to be a complete paradigm change.
This can be done, for example, by bringing back what can be called "ethical consciousness of the masses" (sounds like old comunist jargon, isn't it?).
Ok, I'm not willing to go off topic, so I'll terminate here my post.
Have a nice day. -

I love using proton mail as mailbox. It's a great alternatives to other famous mailing service.

That would be a great idea, however if they built there own OS from scratch, it would be likely to fail due to the lack of developer support for 3rd party apps. It would also be very hard to do as creating an OS is not a simple process.
I would suggest they instead consider making an OS based upon the open source version of android, without Google's apps and then add their own app store / YouTube client etc. -
