Stop with politics
I just read your newsletter. I don't care what Proton thinks of Ukraine or Covid or any other issue going on in the planet. I want an email service. That is all. Don't give money to any causes, use it to improve your services. Keep your opinions out of it. Leave giving to causes to your individual employees or owners. I am seriously considering leaving your service if you don't stop this virtue signaling madness.

Absolutely agree. I'm come here for security apps, and expect to be able to support the causes that I choose. I don't want to have to choose security apps /and/ your cause.

OP: It sounds like proton isn't for you. If i were you i'd just leave. Proton is supporting good causes, and it seems you have an issue with it. You don't have to read them or acknowledge them. You do have the choice to ignore them or unsub from them if they are causing an issue for you.

If Proton charges $10 for a service and then gives $3 of that away, then the message is that they only need to charge $7 for the service and they can still make all the money they need to continue to grow the business. What they are doing by over charging is forcing me to pay $3 to whatever cause they choose. Personally, I'm happy to contribute my $3 to several of the same causes that Proton chooses, but I'd like that to be my choice and not a forced contribution. Yes, it *is* my choice to use the platform or not, but I would like the option to pay for just the service and then donate my own funds to the causes I choose at the time and amount of my choice.

I'll be buying a 24 month Mail Plus plan on the 15th in support of Proton voicing their support for causes like the war in Ukraine and the fight against COVID-19.

Adding my voice here: I am happy that Proton are supporting these causes, and happy that they are being transparent about the causes they support. People who do not agree with those causes can opt out if they see fit.
Driving for a private and secure internet is a political cause in and of itself, so the idea that they should stay out of politics does not make sense to me. Doing and saying nothing indicates acceptance of the current status quo, and I am happy to support a company that puts its money towards its values.

They are newsletters... just unsubscribe or ignore the topic if it doesn't interest you lmao. The subject of each newsletter is subjective to all, anyone could complain about anything at that point.

I'd like to see my money used to further improve proton's services. All paying customers deserve this. Besides, catching up to google and surpassing their quality of service is almost impossible if other unrelated causes are funded. It's fine to share your opinions but I'd rather see dedication and 100% focus on the products like it should be. I love proton and want to see it grow but unfortunately this would slow down that growth. 3 votes, critical

Protonmails core mission should not be political. Protonmails core mission is to provide a private, secure and effective email service. End of. If you want to consider that neutrality as ' political ' then ok; but that justifiably deletes any thought police interference whatsoever and should mean that your biases should be expressed elsewhere. You are there to provide an email service not a political forum.
. It should be untainted by making any comment culturally or politically and so its core mission will remain untainted and uncompromised. Unlike the banks.
It cant do that it by adhering to posturing megalomaniac flag waving keyboard warrior govt. mission creep concern trolls who are against govt. interference only when it suits them, who want to 'virtue' coerce everyone on the planet to agree with their views and aspirations for sainthood and what (in their opinion) is the 'right' (partisan) thing to do. If you forget that you will just go the way of Google and start spying on those who use your service because you dont agree with their views. Once that occurs you are operating under false pretences. -

Buddy, Proton's CORE MISSION is already political. Being against government surveillance and censorship is not far off from being against a useless, imperialistic war.
Proton: "War bad" 😱😱😱 HOW POLITICAL 😱😱😱
Also 😱😱😱 Proton, a company founded and led by scientists, is agreeing with the clear scientific consensus 😱😱😱
#NotMyProton 🤬🤬😤

Absolutely 100% agree on this one, If I had votes left and I could I'd given this a vote count making it impossible for the Proton crew to ignore.
Politics, pride, Diversity, Inclusion, Ukraine, this and that. Basically all these topics are divisive and frankly, I'm sure it scares a lot of people away from this great service. Tbh, I have not much to fear (yet) I think? Suppose some, as I live in EUSSR, we don't have free speech and those liberties which are becoming more and more rare in the world.
But even though, The soon I see (not saying Proton have done this as I haven't seen it) But if for example I'd see Protomail all in a sudden shown as a Rainbow Icon during, *cough* Pride month *cough* I personally would feel not welcome, nor safe and my trustlevel towards the company would slowly perish. I have no hatred towards people, but I think that particular thing is the most divisive and hateful, organized and dangerous thing in the western world that ever existed.
Yes, I think it's worse then 2nd World war Nazism, It's strikingly similar, but it's in a time where all comms in the world are recorded, all speech limited, all "news" (propaganda) controlled and synced throughout the planet. The force is far more scary then a localized Nazi Germany (according to my knowledge) Ever was.
Also, about Ukraine and all that shit, just don't do it. Keep your thoughts for yourselves, or I think you'll risk losing your good brand in the end.
Keep in mind, the general thought of Ukraine vs Russia is leaning heavily in good terms with Russia (worldwide) Western world is only some 9% of the world's population. And not even half of us are interested in hating Russia in favour of super-corrupt Non-democratic nazi Ukraine.
Just my thoughts...

Don’t kid yourself. Nobody is neutral. Every person, every company is a political actor. Saying nothing indicates the status quo is acceptable. Stating disagreement indicates a preference for something different. “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing” (incorrectly attributed to Edmund Burke). And I endorse Proton’s transparency. I left Facebook due to its hidden agenda and support of inhumane causes, and I’m leaving Twitter for the same reasons … same as hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of others. I don’t want to support and strengthen a platform of any kind that lends support to forces that oppress and cause suffering.

Total political neutrality is what I expect. Just avoid anything remotely political. Do not participate in any ESG or DEI initiatives. I'm a Visionary client and came to Proton for privacy and to avoid supporting the politics of Google. If you begin supporting the same politics, you'll lose a customer and I'll self-host or find a competitor.

Stay out of cultural and political nonsense. keep with privacy as a core value. If Proton goes woke, then the woke mob will call for the violation of privacy of its members.

I agree with a few others in this thread: I would be much *more* concerned to learn Proton as a company was donating or promoting political causes *without* announcing it to users. Take action or don't - but be transparent, so that users can make informed decisions of whether or not to stick with the company.
Unsubscribe from the newsletter if you don't want to see these transparency announcements.

The best way Proton can help people in Ukraine (and Russia) is by building and providing good VPN and private email. Every dollar spent on developing Proton products is worth 100 dollars given as donated cash.
