Why do they need their own F-Droid repo? They should use the main repo. If their apps don't comply, they should make them comply, not make their own repo.

Maybe as a stopgap until they're ready for the main repo?

Deletes just go to the trash and you can restore from there.

I don't understand all of the requests for Proton to create apps that already exist and don't relate to apps they already have. You want private search not based on any major search engines (except perhaps for some image searches for now) - Brave does that.

They have so many things to address already with their existing portfolio. Expansions should be thoughtful and make sense in their niche.

I think Standard Notes is already attractive and modern looking compared to the apps you listed.

I disagree that real-time collaboration is essential, but I understand the utility, most significantly for couples/families. I do hope they add this.

The idea is just simple, private, notes on all devices. It needs to be picky about what features it adds. Simplicity is key with notes.

There are already FOSS alternatives to Google/Microsoft Authenticator. There is no reason for Proton to make one.

Chad is spot on. They should be focusing on a smaller suite of apps/features that make sense together, and work to make those tip top. Photo sync is a logical enhancement of a cloud storage service and a calendar is a natural tie-in for an email service, but payments have nothing to do with any of Proton's existing apps.

I explicitly do not want integrated AI (negative utility in its current state, feature bloat, loss of focus on core functionality).

Re: translations, there's no benefit to doing this within Proton Mail versus using translations built into your browser, especially assuming, like Firefox, those translations are private.

The vast majority of students and professionals will not be able to choose their school/work email provider, and the vast majority of them will want their email and calendar to be visible in the same app. That isn't possible in Proton Calendar, though, at least without forwarding all of your mail to a ProtonMail address, which may not be possible for some users, and which is a pain for the rest. As a result, very few people in that bucket are going to use Proton Calendar even if they use ProtonMail for their personal email. Maybe you'll get a few retirees and serious privacy wonks, but you'll miss the normies.

The solution is interoperability with other mail clients, and you can only do that via widely accepted standards. CalDAV support is therefore essential for this app.
