How can we improve Proton Mail?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

  1. User name

    I would like to be able to have a user name that is different then any of my email addresses to be able to log in to the account and have that user name be the only way to log in, keeping my primary email or alias email accounts from being able to log in.

  3. Filtering based on read/unread

    Add filter condition which checks if the message has been read or not.

    As I receive a lot of informational emails it would be nice to have them be automatically moved to appropriate folder after opening them in the main inbox folder.

  4. Folders and labels to organize the contact list

    It is necessary in Protonmail to organize the list of contacts in folders or lists and even tags that can be named as desired. This would allow better organization of the contact list. Being able to organize the list of contacts in folders and labels is something that other mail clients do not have.

    As an example, I personally would like to organize my list of contacts in "My Contacts", "Customers" and "Other Contacts".

    I also suggest that all addresses that are automatically added to the contacts list go to a folder called "Other Contacts". This already does other mail…

  5. add proxy sock5 feature

    I would like to have this feature to hide my ip from websites or from chat services . A vpn solution doesn't allow to have still access to your LAN network if you need to ssh some hosts or things like that. And sometimes you just want some traffic from specific software and not all your traffic redirected.
    proxy server is the only solution that could do that but if you find me another one that's okey too.

  6. Option to disable spam filter

    Spam filtering options need to include the ability to whitelist entire domains, such as @example.com. Additionally a disable spam filter option would be excellent. A work around for adding a dedicated button might be a double wildcard whitelist: *@. Thank you.

  7. Possibility to add notes/descriptions to addresses

    I use specific addresses for only one service/site. This addresses are a random string of numbers. It would be great if in the Setting -> Addresses/Users screen I could add a note or description to addresses so I can tell them apart.

  8. SMTP out to allow for support of mail forwarding services

    I've used a mail forwarding service since 1996. It gives me the luxury of switching the underlying mail provider while maintaining a static email address. I would like to be able to send email using this (pobox.com) service's SMTP server so all mail is sent using the forwarding email address. This is a capability that exists across most other web mail clients. The combination of a strong privacy-oriented forwarding service like pobox.com and the secure mail capability of ProtonMail would be a perfect match.

  11. an option to switch the signature on and off

    I would be nice to have an option for signature usage. I would like to be able to specify when my signature is used. For example, new emails - use the signature, for reply emails - don't use the signature. I currently am deleting the signature on reply emails.

  12. Permanently Delete Option For Filters (Not Sending To Trash)

    When creating a filter, it would be greatly appreciated if there was an option to permanently delete the mail without sending to trash. There are cases where you don't want to be tempted at a later date to read the email by going to the trash. For example, let's say you do not want to be contacted by somebody and move on with your life, but they keep email you. You create a filter to move to trash (great) but in the back of your mind, you know that their emails are the trash folder, so you may be tempted…

    I would like to totally recommend adding one button for downloading multiple attachments. I'm reciving emails with plenty of photos and I cannot download them at once

    i was looking for a great security account, and i think i found it but...
    i was looking to use as family or for my acompagnie, but i mist important feature.

    Hello, Allow us to right click on an email address either within the email listing or an individual email and be able to run a search for all matching emails based on the email address.

  16. When sending an encrypted email to a NON Protonmail address, some indication that it was sent encrypted

    When sending an encrypted email from a Protonmail account to a NON Protonmail address, it would be good to have some indication in the Sent folder that it was sent in an encrypted state.

  17. More actions to filters

    Hi.

    Actions like reject (return reject code to sender and don't save the message), delete (accept message, but don't save it), mark as spam and never mark as spam should be added to filter's options.

  20. Separate read and unread mails view option

    GMail has this wonderful and dead simple UI/UX feature which I would like to see in my ProtonMail account: inside inbox, one can choose to collect all unread emails first, on top and then (separated by a small label or something) one can see all the already read emails below. Otherwise in this "view" the order/sort can be changed to size/date both with asc/desc options.

    This feature makes it very easy to look at the inbox and see all read and unread mails without clicking on "show read only" or "show unread only".
