  1. Make the blue compose button for the Proton Mail PWA app less bright in the dark theme

Currently, using the app in the dark is quite comfortable, except for that button with the color #0076FF, which is blinding, leaving an imprint on the retina.

  2. Preview Excel files in Proton Mail Desktop

Excel attachments must be downloaded to be viewed in Proton Mail Desktop. It appears as though Word attachments can be previewed, so it would be very useful to have this functionality also.

  3. Get rid of "Proton Mail needs your permission to enable desktop notifications" banner.

I know this, and if I wanted proton to have permission, I would give it. Why does Proton feel the need to put this in a banner on a paid service? Does proton think it's users are dumb? It is just unnecessary and feels cheap. Also, let's say I enable notifications on my home PC, what if I'm just signing in from a different computer at a friends, work, or school? You gunna prompt me this garbage whenever I sign in? Really annoying.

  4. Get rid of Black Friday banner

I have a subscription, so black Friday deals don't pertain to me at the moment. Shoving in an add banner on a premium already paid for service feels cheap... Get rid of it please!

  5. No default address or variable default address

Currently, we are required to have a default email address. I have multiple email addresses in my account and use them for different purposes. But, when I open an email it automatically puts the default email address. If that is not the address I want to use, I have to change it. The problem is that it is easy to forget to change it and then I end up sending the email from the wrong address. I propose 2 solutions.

    1. Allow the user to have no default email. This would require the user to always pick an address when composing…

  7. Seamless labelling with hotkeys

Make enter apply the label that is highlighted.

A feature from Gmail that I love is that it's super simple to apply labels with keyboard shortcuts; open label dialog, search for a label and press enter. Job done.

Unless I'm doing it wrong, in Proton Mail on web I have to press "L" to get the labels, search for a label and then use tab key + enter or the mouse pointer to actually apply the label. Instead I want the enter key to apply the highlighted label right away after search (while the search input still has focus) for…

  8. Reply in message

    Reply in the message
Currently, ProtonMail systematically requires me to reply separately from the original message.
I would like to be able to choose to reply in the message so that I can quote the paragraphs to which I am responding.

At present, when the email contains numerous questions, I am forced to copy and paste or send several emails for each part, which is cumbersome and disruptive.

  9. Calendar Weekly View: Select hours for better visibility

add an option to "zoom in" on specific hours, or alternatively add selection tool for a "work day". For instance, I don't need to constantly see the hours of 10pm to 7am, as I never schedule events then. But currently in the weekly view they're always visible, pushing the existing events further down on the screen. Thanks!

  10. Unified Storage Across Proton Services

I would love to see Proton unify its storage across all services.

Right now, Proton services have separate storage limits in the free plan:

Proton Mail: 500 MB (upgradable to 1 GB through setup tasks)

Proton Drive: up to 5 GB (after completing setup or boost tasks)

For paid plans, Proton already provides shared storage between Mail and Drive, but not for the free tier.

It would be great if free users could also have a single shared storage pool, for example 5 GB total across Mail, Drive, Calendar, and other Proton services, instead of isolated limits for each.

  11. Filter option for sharing a calendar with a link

When sharing a calendar with a link, the full calendar is exported. It would be relevant to limit the events shared through this link.

At least, to share only future events (keeping old events private). Or having the possibility to filter the shared vents by date.

  12. Provide a better way to manage events in the evening

I often find myself planning events in the evening, which I usually set to end at midnight. There are 2 pain points in this process. First, to set it properly at midnight I need to also change the date. So I end up with more actions to take. The second is that changing the start time back, moves the end time to the next day. And I frequently set an initial early time before the actual time is confirmed. Overall this means I have to use double the actions to set evening events.

My suggestion is to add a way…

  13. Improve Insert Image Options - Allow Insertion of GIF Pixels

I'd like to use Umami Analytics' new Pixels feature to generate small images that can be embeded in our emails to track when they're viewed. However, using Proton Mail's "Insert image" option it gives me an error "Not a valid URL". Which I'm not sure if it has to do with the type of image Umami generates (a GIF) or if it's due to the URL missing a file extension.

For reference, you can inspect the Pixel here and see for yourself how Umami implements the image: https://cloud.umami.is/p/1i49B6ecn

  14. Flag emojis should show as emojis, not their text-based counterpart

When flag emojis (like 🇺🇸 and 🇸🇰) aren't shown as emojis in email titles; I think it'd be nice if they were.

  15. Restore a previously available function

Undo send is extremely useful, but after the last major update, the undo send feature button is only available for almost exactly ONE SECOND, even though I have it set for 10 seconds. It works fine on the desktop but not on iPad or iPhone. Please RESTORE this extremely valuable feature.
I posted this a few days ago, and a proton admin declined my idea. Instead, the admin posted a note about how to implement this feature in the program settings. The admin obviously did not read my post carefully. I already know how to implement it. It just does…

  16. In "More search options" allow me to group by senders (or other properties)

As a user I would like to group all my emails by sender. This would allow me to bulk delete all emails of senders that are white-noise.

As an example right now if I want to clear up storage space I search by "@steam.com", this retrieves a list of all emails I have gotten from a sender @steam.com and delete those.

I would like to get an overview of all my emails, grouped by sender without specifying a sender. This would allow me to get an overview of other white-noise senders, unsubscribe from e.g. newsletters and clear up my storage…

  17. Support .heic photo attachments in mail—“attached” .heic photos show in my drafts/sent emails, but recipients tell me they haven’t received.

    Notes/tl;dr-ish :

Please note that as far as I can find: .heic = now the standard image file extension for any images taken via an apple device’s camera)

** Additional note: proton mail users do not seem to receive any error codes to tell them that these attachments were never sent.

***Please bear with me: I have tried to put all tl;dr info in the title & notes (above), but I struggle to write succinctly. I do believe this to be an issue that may affect any people that attach photos to their emails that were taken by an iphone/ipad.

  19. One click between calendar and mail

Please provide a way to switch between calendar and mail with one button click, instead of opening a menu. I'm annoyed every time I want to look at the calendar that I click the 4-dot button, then choose calendar. There is plenty of real-estate in the app to put some tabs or buttons for this.

Also- it would be nice to be able to open the calendar directly from a windows shortcut icon.

    I up-voted these:
"It would be great if there was a keyboard shortcut to switch between calendar and mail on the desktop app"
    "Separate mail and calendar…

  20. Email notifications and badges

On iOS devices, when the phone is in sleep mode or “Do Not Disturb” mode, the app doesn’t check for new emails or send notifications after waking up. The badge number also doesn’t appear. It would also be great to have an option to show badge counts for emails received in folders other than the inbox as well.
